The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Wogu Olaka Johnson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Rivers South-East Senatorial District by-election held on June 20.
Rosemary Ogwu, the Returning Officer for the election, announced the result on Sunday at the Rivers South-East Senatorial Collation Centre at the Khana Local Government Council Secretariat in Bori.
Ms Ogwu said Mr Johnson polled 47,961 votes to defeat three other candidates in the keenly contested election.
According to her, Osar Erewari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured 1,647 votes, while Douglas Fabeka Beke of the Action Alliance (AA) garnered 1,175 votes.
She added that Sam Barikwa of the Labour Party (LP) received 367 votes.
“I, Professor Rosemary Ogwu, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the 2026 Rivers South-East Senatorial District by-election held on June 20, 2026,” she said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, on Sunday, declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olaka Nwogu, as the winner of the Rivers South East Senatorial District bye-election conducted on Saturday.
Only four political parties and their candidates were cleared by the INEC to contest the June 20 bye-election, including the All Progressives Congress, the People’s Democratic Party, Action Alliance and the Labour Party
The Bye-election followed the death of the former representative of the Senatorial District, Senator Barry Mpigi, who passed on in February this year.
The poll was contested in seven local government areas that make up the Rivers South-East District. They are Khana, Gokana, Tai. Eleme, Andoni. Oyigbo and Opobo.

The INEC Returning Officer for the poll, Prof. Umar Sani, declared Shuaibu winner of the election that was held on Saturday.
He said that Shuaibu polled 35,356 votes to defeat Lawal Garba-Haruna of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), who scored 268 votes, and Labour Party’s Abubakar Yahaya-Muhammad, with 98 votes.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Wole Oluyede, has recorded a polling unit victory in the Ekiti State governorship election, according to results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Oluyede won Polling Unit 002, Ward 03, Ugele/Akoru in Ikere Local Government Area, defeating incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
INEC’s official result sheet showed that the PDP polled 119 votes, while the APC scored 113 votes in a closely contested race. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) recorded two votes, and the National Rescue Movement (NRM) secured one vote. Two ballots were declared void.
