'10 Delta State House Of Assembly Members Set To Defect To APC'
LAGOS FEBRUARY 12TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, says 10 lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party in the Delta State House of Assembly are set to defect to the All Progressives Congress, signaling a significant power shift in the state’s political landscape.
Omo-Agege, who was APC governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, made the dislosure on Saturday while welcoming into the APC a two-term chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Chief Itiako Ikpokpo (aka Malik).
Addressing party members and political leaders during the event, which took place at Uro-Irri, Omo-Agege declared that the PDP’s dominance in Delta State was “rapidly crumbling.”
“A major realignment in the power structure of the Delta State House of Assembly is looming as 10 lawmakers are set to dump PDP for APC,” Omo-Agege stated.
He explained that with seven APC lawmakers already in the House, the defection of 10 PDP members would raise the APC’s numbers to 17, potentially shifting the House’s leadership in favor of the opposition.
Omo-Agege attributed APC’s growing strength in Delta State to the economi…

A wave of resignations and growing discontent has hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State following the party's primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections. Many aspirants and their thousands of members have reportedly dumped the party over allegations of injustice, candidate imposition, and a lack of internal democracy.
Several party stakeholders and aspirants across the state accused APC leadership of sidelining due process during the conduct of the primaries for governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly positions.
Many aggrieved members alleged that no direct primaries were conducted in the state, insisting that candidates were merely handpicked through what they described as "Selection and imposition" rather than a democratic process.
The crisis has triggered mass resignations across different levels of the party, with reports indicating that several local government chairmen may also announce their exit in the coming days.

Ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, anxiety is spreading among electorates, political observers and citizens.
The ongoing wave of defections by governors, senators and other key politicians from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has triggered fears that Africa’s largest democracy may be drifting toward a one-party state.
DAILY POST observed that in recent months, the nation’s political terrain has witnessed a dramatic shift.
Governors Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Douye Diri of Bayelsa State recently dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC, barely days apart.
Their defection pushed the ruling party’s control to 25 of Nigeria’s 36 states, leaving the PDP with 8, the Labour Party, LP, All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA and New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, with one state each.
This development has fueled growing concern that the ruling party under President Bola Tinubu may face little or no resistance in the 2027 polls.
History repeating itself?
For many Nigerians, what is happening today feels eerily familiar. In a bid to return the country to democracy, the Ab…

Ahead of the 2027 general election, leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, gathered at the weekend in Jos, Plateau State, to formally receive new members who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; Labour Party, LP; PRP; and ADC.
The APC described the mass defections as a significant step toward strengthening its political structure ahead of 2027.
President Bola Tinubu, represented by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, commended the turnout and noted that Plateau State continues to play an important role in national politics. He expressed optimism that the recent political realignments would contribute to greater stability in the State.
Akpabio described the entry of former lawmakers, governorship candidates, and party leaders from other political parties into the APC as a welcome development that would broaden the party’s base. He also acknowledged the leadership of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, saying the party was encouraged by the unity displayed among local stakeholders.

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kolawole Akinlayo, has urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to strictly enforce the provisions of Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, in resolving the dispute arising from the party’s primary election for Ekiti North Federal Constituency II.
Akinlayo, who represents Moba/Ilejemeje/Ido Osi Federal Constituency, made the call while addressing journalists in Abuja after submitting a petition to the APC National Chairman and the party’s National Assembly Appeal Committee challenging the outcome of the May 16 primary election.
The lawmaker alleged that the aspirant declared winner of the primary, Mr. Kunle Ibrahim, was not qualified to contest because he allegedly remained a political appointee at the time of the election.
According to him, Ibrahim was serving as a Special Assistant in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and continued to receive his salary until May 2026, after the conduct of the primary election.
Akinlayo argued that Ibrahim’s participation vi…

Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has revealed that 10 lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Delta State House of Assembly are set to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a major political shift in the state.
Omo-Agege, who contested the 2023 Delta State governorship election under the APC, made this disclosure on Saturday while welcoming former Isoko South Local Government Chairman, Itiako Ikpokpo (aka Malik), into the APC at an event held in Uro-Irri, Delta State.

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress fired back at the former Osun governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, for saying the African Democratic Congress would take over Aso Rock and Lagos Government House in 2027.
In a statement signed and released on Sunday by its spokesman, Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC described Aregbesola’s remarks as “an empty boast” and accused him of turning against the party that made him.
Aregbesola, who served as governor and minister of the interior as an APC member, declared on Saturday that his current party, ADC, will unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
He said this while unveiling a grassroots mobilisation strategy aimed at securing victories both at the federal level and in Lagos State.
Oladejo criticised Aregbesola for slamming the party he had thrived in.
“From Lagos Commissioner to Osun Governor and then Minister, Aregbe ate, dined, and thrived on the APC table. Today, in a desperate bid for relevance, he is busy setting fire to the same house that made him. That, dear Nigerians, is political suicide of the highest order,” he said.

ADC Yet to Pick Kano Governorship Candidate, Party Loyalist Insists
POLITICS DIGEST —
A fresh controversy has erupted within the Kano State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a party stalwart, Adnan Mukhtar Tudun Wada, dismissed claims that the party leadership had imposed a governorship candidate ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Reacting to a recent press conference by a group described as ADC stakeholders in Kano, Tudun Wada accused the organizers of spreading misinformation by alleging that the party leadership had endorsed a particular governorship aspirant.
He maintained that the individual who purportedly acted as the party chairman no longer holds the position following a judgment of the Federal High Court, adding that the party was in the process of setting up a caretaker committee to oversee its affairs.
According to him, the national leadership of the party is currently addressing issues relating to aspirants seeking various political offices across the country before making any final decisions…

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State has reaffirmed Malam Ibrahim Khalil as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election, insisting that the outcome of the party’s primary election remains valid and binding.
The party’s position was made known on Saturday during a press conference held at the Kano Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), where stakeholders accused some national figures within the party of attempting to undermine the mandate freely given to Khalil by party members.
Addressing journalists, representatives of the Expanded State Interim Leadership Team (ESILT) and other party stakeholders said Ibrahim Khalil emerged winner of the ADC governorship primary election conducted on May 22, 2026, after polling 55,851 votes, defeating his closest rival who secured 4,000 votes.
The stakeholders maintained that the exercise was transparent and democratic, stressing that the party’s Kano chapter would not accept any attempt to alter the outcome of the primary election.

Their resurgence followed Governor Caleb Mutfwang-led defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that collapsed opposition ranks and re-ordered the state's political hierarchy ahead of the 2027 general elections
Barely two years after the Court of Appeal voided their 2023 elections to the National Assembly, at least three Plateau politicians have obtained tickets to try again, this time, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their resurgence followed Governor Caleb Mutfwang's defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which collapsed opposition ranks and reordered the state's political hierarchy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The comeback candidates were among lawmakers displaced by appellate judgements that faulted the PDP's internal structure during the 2023 nomination process.

Crisis Rocks Aregbesola Camp As Adeoti Quits Group Amid ADC Gov Tussle
National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has dismissed the defection of governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He argued that the presence of governors in the party would not guarantee APC’s victory in the 2027 election.
Speaking at the launch of a book written by the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, Aregbesola said that if previous elections were anything to go by, the assertion that the APC is sure of victory in 2027 is not true.
He recalled that the situation in the South East and even the South West in the last election is a pointer that governors don’t guarantee election victory.

From Hassan Taiye
A group, Igabi Youths and Women Forum, has listed what it described as the reasons former Kaduna State House of Assembly Speaker, Yusuf Zailani, lost the All Progressives Congress senatorial ticket for Kaduna Central.
In a statement issued in Kaduna on Saturday, the forum said Zailani’s strained relationship with party executives, stakeholders, and grassroots supporters contributed to his defeat in the recent APC primary.
The statement, signed by Malam Mohammed Suleiman Igabi, accused the former speaker of refusing to recognise newly elected APC executives at the ward and Igabi Local Government levels after their inauguration.
The group also said Zailani distanced himself from party activities and failed to participate actively in campaigns for recent bye-elections, including the Chikun/Kajuru House of Representatives contest and other state legislative elections.
It further alleged that during the 2023 general elections, the former speaker failed to deliver Igabi Local Government for the APC, where the Peoples Democratic Party won.
The forum claimed Zailani maintained poor relations with…

The
political landscape within the All Progressives Congress (APC) has shifted dramatically following the confirmation that the party has issued nomination forms to candidates cleared to contest the 2027 general elections.
This development, coming 24 hours after an exclusive report by Daily Sun first revealed that the party was secretly distributing forms to selected aspirants, indicates that the window for change has officially closed for aggrieved politicians.
Meanwhile, the party has dropped former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, former Ondo State House of Representatives member, Gbenga Elegbeleye and five other senatorial candidates from the final lists of the party’s candidates forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Also dropped and replaced candidates are 19 House of Representatives candidates that emerged victorious in the May party’s primary electi…

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a scathing rebuttal to recent remarks made by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, former Minister of Interior and ex-Governor of Osun State, regarding the African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) prospects in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released by APC Lagos spokesperson Hon. Seye Oladejo, the party described Aregbesola’s assertion that the ADC would “take over Aso Rock and Lagos Government House” in 2027 as nothing more than an “empty boast” and a desperate attempt to remain politically relevant.
“From Lagos Commissioner to Osun Governor and then Minister, Aregbe ate, dined, and thrived on the APC table. Today, in a desperate bid for relevance, he is busy setting fire to the same house that made him,” Oladejo stated.
The APC emphasized that Aregbesola’s political trajectory—from a key figure in the ruling party to a defector leading a minor opposition platform—represents a self-inflicted decline. The par…

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday concluded its House of Representatives primaries in several states ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Saturday’s exercise produced a mix of consensus candidates, high-profile victories, and controversies ranging from violence to allegations of candidate imposition and unlawful detention.
The primaries, originally scheduled for Friday, were shifted to Saturday and formed part of the ruling party’s preparations for the next elections.
While many constituencies produced clear winners, the exercise was overshadowed by disputes in states like Ondo, Ekiti, Katsina, and Niger.

Kindly share this story:
A former senator who represented Ekiti North Senatorial District, Ayodele Arise, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the controversy surrounding the All Progressives Congress senatorial primary in Ekiti North, describing the exercise as a sham that casts aspersions on democratic principles.
Arise, an APC chieftain and one of the aspirants in the primary election, made the call in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday.
The APC committee that conducted the primary had declared the incumbent senator representing Ekiti North, Cyril Fasuyi, as the winner of the exercise.
However, Arise and other aspirants, including Dipo Bamisaye and Dare Owolabi, rejected the outcome, alleging that the process was manipulated and fraudulent.
Speaking on the disputed primary, Arise said the ruling party was yet to overcome challenges associated with internal democracy.
He said, “When we talk abo…

Controversy has continued to trail the All Progressives Congress, APC, senatorial primary election in Ekiti North Senatorial District as former senator, Ayodele Arise; Dare Owolabi; and the incumbent lawmaker, Cyril Fasuyi, exchanged tirades over the outcome of the exercise.
While Senator Arise and Owolabi rejected the result announced by the APC Senatorial Primary Election Committee, alleging manipulation and falsification of figures, Senator Fasuyi dismissed the claims and urged the former lawmaker to accept the outcome in good faith.
The APC committee had declared Fasuyi winner of the primary with 14,179 votes, while Arise polled 4,868 votes. Other aspirants, Dipo Bamisaye and Dare Owolabi, secured 3,694 and 2,836 votes respectively.
Addressing journalists separately on Tuesday, Senator Arise and Owolabi insisted that they won the shadow poll based on results collated from 33 wards where the voting exercise was completed.
Senator Arise claimed that results from 33 wards showed that he scored 8,687 votes against Fasuyi’s 7,755 votes before the process was allegedly disrupted in several areas.

Recent political developments in Nigeria have drawn attention to a growing pattern of defections involving elected officials and party members across different levels of governance.
Between 2023 and 2026, several politicians moved from opposition platforms to the ruling All Progressives Congress, raising concerns about the balance of political power.
The trend has affected major opposition parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party, both of which have experienced internal challenges in recent years.
Data from political observers indicate that the ruling party currently holds a majority of state governments, strengthening its influence across the federation.
In contrast, opposition parties now control fewer states, reflecting a shift in political alignment among key actors.
The movement of politicians between parties is not new in

’s political history, but the current scale has attracted increased scrutiny.
Analysts link these defections to a mix of factors, including political survival, access to resources, and alignment with federal authority.

Sokoto
The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mallam Sa’idu Umar Ubandoma, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former PDP governorship flag bearer, who is also regarded as a close political ally of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, formally joined the APC during a meeting with the party’s leader in Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, at his residence in Asokoro, Abuja.
His defection was disclosed to Newsmen Tuesday by the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Senator Wamakko, Bashar Abubakar.
Explaining his decision to leave the opposition, Ubandoma said he was attracted by what he described as the quality of leadership provided by Senator Wamakko and the performance of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration.
According to him, the state government’s investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and rural development convinced him that the APC offers the most viable platform for sustaining Sokoto’s d…

Primaries Fallout: Defections, Minority Leadership Fight Rocks Reps As ...
The aftermath of the primaries, especially that of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has triggered another wave of defections in the House of Representatives.
LEADERSHIP Sunday reports that no fewer than 54 serving members of the National Assembly lost their tickets seeking re-election during the APC primaries.
Consequently, 17 members of the House of Representatives resigned from their current political parties. They joined new ones when the House resumed plenary after about one month’s recess in the wake of the primaries.
They include the Minority Leader, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, who formally resigned from his position and dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC.
Chinda, who represents the Obio/Akpor federal constituency of Rivers State, has emerged as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 general election.
Other defectors are Hons Alex Egbona (Cross River), who defected from APC to PDP, Esosa Iyawe (Edo), who joined Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after losing the party primary for the House of Representatives seat on the platform of the APC and Jonathan Gaza Gbewfi, who…

A group, Igabi Youths and Women Forum, has listed what it described as the reasons former Kaduna State House of Assembly Speaker, Yusuf Zailani, lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Kaduna Central.
In a statement issued in Kaduna on Saturday, the forum said Zailani’s strained relationship with party executives, stakeholders and grassroots supporters contributed to his defeat in the recent APC primary.
The statement, signed by Malam Mohammed Suleiman Igabi, accused the former speaker of refusing to recognise newly elected APC executives at the ward and Igabi Local Government levels after their inauguration.
The group also alleged that Zailani distanced himself from party activities and failed to participate actively in campaigns for recent bye-elections, including the Chikun/Kajuru House of Representatives contest and other state legislative elections.
It further claimed that during the 2023 general elections, the former speaker failed to deliver Igabi Local Government for the APC, as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the area.

Nigeria's opposition landscape fragments ahead of 2027 elections

As Nigeria moves toward the 2027 general elections, major opposition parties — specifically the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Party (ADC), Accord and the Labour Party (LP) — are grappling with significant fractures and internal crises. These divisions, characterised by leadership battles, mass defections and ideological ambiguity, have created a fragmented political landscape.
Political analysts believe the opposition may risk not fielding candidates ahead of the 2027 general election, especially the presidential poll. Key causes of these fractures include intense power struggles and leadership tussles.
Factionalisation, leadership tussles cripple PDP, LP
The PDP is plagued by unresolved factionalism, with competing interests within the National Working Committee (NWC) and among governors, notably between camps associated with former leaders and current stakeholders. Accusations of “double agents” within the party, who are allegedly acting in the interest of the ruling party, have eroded trust among members.
Labour Party (LP) factionalisation is also acute, with the party divided betwee…

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has upturned some of the results of the Senate and House of Representatives primaries held in various senatorial zones and federal constituencies in Benue State.
In the latest results, those who lost out in the National Working Committee final decision were those who won earlier as the party’s candidates during the primaries held in the three senatorial districts and eleven federal constituencies in the State.
In the review of the results by the national secretariat of the party, two senatorial and five house of representatives candidates loyal to Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia who were declared winners during the primaries lost their tickets to the NWC’s preferred candidates backed by Secretary to the Government of th…
