WASHINGTON (TNND) —The Israeli military launched strikes on Hezbollah targets in Beirut on Sunday, asPresident Donald Trumpindicated an agreement between the U.S. and Iran is ready to be signed.
Iran threatened a military response to the strikes, which further complicates a deal expected to be signed on Sunday. Civil Defense found three bodies and six wounded people in the rubble.
Trump continuously pressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end hard-hitting strikes while negotiations are finalized.
Iran wants the deal to include an end to the fighting in Lebanon.
"The Deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow, and immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL," Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday afternoon.
Netanyahu's office said the strikes were in response to Hezbollah attacks on the north of the country.
Qatari mediators traveled to Tehran on Sunday to finalize the agreement, according to two regional officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Saturday the deal would be signed Sunday. Iran’s foreign ministry spoke…

Iran warned that continued Israeli strikes on Lebanon could derail ongoing talks with the US. Chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Tehran may halt dialogue, while Iran accused Washington and Israel of violating the ceasefire and threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf spoke to Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Tuesday (June 2) about continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon and said that it could affect the ongoing peace process with Washington. This comes two days after Ghalibaf said that Tehran will not agree to any deal with the United States that fails to secure the rights of Iranians. Terming the attack on Hezbollah in Lebanon as ceasefire violation, Iran on Monday said that it has stopped exchanging messages with the US through intermediaries, its state-affiliated outlet Tasnim News Agency reported.

Trump says Iran talks continuing at "rapid pace" after regime threatens "other fronts" in war

updates on the war in the Middle East for Tuesday, June 2, here
. See earlier developments below.
What to know about the Iran war:
President Trump said on his Truth Social platform Monday that
indirect talks with Iran
were continuing at a "rapid pace," hours after an Iranian news outlet linked to its Revolutionary Guard Corps said the regime was suspending the talks and opening "other fronts" in the war.
Iran's move came in response to what it said were ceasefire violations by the U.S. and Israel.
Mr. Trump also said "all shooting will stop" between Israel and Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group in Lebanon, after the president said he spoke with officials from both sides of the conflict. But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said later that his country's military would "continue to operate as planned in southern Lebanon," and there were clashes overnight between Israel and Hezbollah.

(TNND) —Israel continued its strikes in Lebanon overnight into Friday, raising concerns about the stability of therecently signed agreement betweenIran and the United States aimed at ending their war.
The memorandum of understanding calls for an immediate and comprehensive halt to military operations “on all fronts, including in Lebanon.” However, neither Israel nor Iran-backed Hezbollah is a party to the agreement, leaving a key flashpoint outside the deal's direct control. Even so, broader efforts to end the war in West Asia remain uncertain, despite Tehran saying negotiations are underway. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said contacts with the US have not been cut off, though negotiations have yet to yield progress.
Iran's Fars News Agency, citing a member of the country's negotiating team, said no final decision has been made and that discussions remain ongoing. The official added that one of the key reasons earlier talks in Islamabad failed was Iran's refusal to enter nuclear negotiations, while reiterating that Tehran would not accept any agreement that ignores developments in Lebanon.

US President Donald Trump on Friday finished a meeting during which he said would make a "final determination" on an Iran peace deal, a White House official told AFP.The official would not say if Trump had reached a decision on the deal with Tehran during the gathering in the high security White House Situation Room.
US President Donald Trump said Friday he’s holding a White House Situation Room meeting with his advisers as he looks to make a “final determination” on moving forward with a deal to extend the Iran ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran said the deal has not been finalized.
Trump confirmed the high-level talks the day after The Associated Press and other news outlets reported that US and Iranian negotiators had come to terms on a tentative agreement. The deal would extend the fragile ceasefire by 60 days as new talks are held on Iran’s disputed nuclear program.

Rubio said Iran would not be allowed to charge Strait of Hormuz tolls.
President Donald Trump announced "major combat operations" against Iran on Feb. 28, with massive joint U.S.-Israeli strikes targeting military, government and infrastructure sites.
Following the announcement of a two-week ceasefire, initial U.S.-Iran talksin Pakistan earlier this month failed to reach a peace deal.
Trump later announced the open-ended extension of the ceasefire and the continuation of the blockade until Iran's proposal is submitted and discussions are concluded "one way or the other."
Secretary Marco Rubio suggested to Fox News in an interview on Monday that Iran's peace proposal falls short of the U.S. conditions for ending the war, now entering its third month.
Two officials familiar with the matter told ABC News that the Iranian proposal consists of a loosening of Tehran's grip on the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the lifting of the U.S. blockade. Talks on Iran's nuclear program would then be pushed back to an unspecified future date, Tehran's proposal suggested.
Rubio, though, said the nuclear issue was at the heart of the U.S. p…

US Vice President JD Vance says he plans to go to Switzerland for 'technical negotiations' with Iran this weekend — Ken Cedeno
Deadly exchanges between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon put a newly signed deal to end the Middle East war under further strain on Friday, after the postponement of planned US-Iran talks in Switzerland.
The delay came as Tehran's top negotiator warned it would not bend on its red lines and that its finger was still "on the trigger", even as shipping appeared to pick up in the Strait of Hormuz, which had essentially been closed during the war.
The deal signed this week by President Donald Trump and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian aims to end a war that began on February 28 with US-Israeli strikes that killed supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The agreement was also meant to halt the fighting in Lebanon, which Iran has always insisted should be covered under any accord, turning Isr…

In just 24 hours, the tension has spiked considerably starting with Israel’sstrikeson Beirut’s southern suburbs and Iran’sretaliationagainst Israel. Despite President Trump’surging Israelnot to retaliate, Israel subsequentlyhit targets in Iran, includinga petrochemical plant, which could prompt Iran to once again target Gulf energy infrastructure. The presidenthas insistedthat the tit-for-tat escalation between Israel and Iran will not affect prospects for a deal and that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must accept any deal the United States negotiates with Iran.
Yet, with this latest escalation, prospects for a near-term end to the war—initiallypredictedby President Trump to last four weeks—remain distant. Diplomacy remains at an impasse as the ceasefire with I…

Iran Studying Deal to Halt War as Stalemate Persists
Iran is reviewing a proposed agreement with the US to halt their war but has not communicated with Washington for a few days, Iranian media reported on Tuesday, after US President Donald Trump said negotiations were ongoing.
More than three months after the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran, the conflict has morphed into a stalemate with the pivotal Strait of Hormuz largely shut.
Iran has not yet responded to a proposed final text of a temporary deal, and was taking a "stern" approach given what it sees as a history of US non-compliance and longstanding mistrust, Mehr News Agency cited a source as saying.
The semi-official Fars agency, also citing a source, added that messages on the possible deal, or memorandum of understanding, had stopped a few days ago, with the last one being Tehran's "clear message" over Lebanon, where Iran is seeking a stop to Israel's incursion against its ally Hezbollah.
Trump said on Monday that negotiations were continuing and there would be a deal over the next week to extend a ceasefire agreed in early April and reopen the strait.
Since mid-March, he has repeatedly said he is close to a …

Donald Trump’s
ongoing negotiations to end the war in Iran hit a roadblock on Monday as Iranian state media said Iran had suspended negotiations over Israel’s ongoing bombardment of Lebanon, following heavy

HUNT VALLEY, Md. (TNND) —Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has reportedly canceled his Wednesday visit to Israel as this week’s exchange of US-Iran attacks threatens an already destabilized ceasefire.
Hegseth planned to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has complicated peace negotiations between Washington and Tehran, according toThe Times of Israel.
It’s unclear what the defense secretary expected to discuss with Netanyahu. The Defense Department didn’t comment on the report when reached by The National News Desk, and Netanyahu’s spokespersons have been silent on the matter.
Israel’s strikes against Iranian proxies in Lebanon have threatened to unravel the Trump administration’s memo of understanding with Tehran, which has insisted on regional peace as part of any permanent treaty.

But there were fresh signs of tensions between the United States and Israel. Netanyahu appeared to cast doubt on any truce with Hezbollah – while a report in the US news outlet Axios said that Trump called the Israeli premier "crazy" and accused him of putting Iran peace talks at risk. HORMUZ AT A STANDSTILL:
President Donald Trump has accused Iran
of violating its ceasefire promises by “doing a very poor job” of
opening up the key Strait of Hormuz trade route
. Only a handful of ships have transited the waterway since the agreement, and
oil prices have climbed again
.
LEBANON STRIKES:
Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah exchanged new strikes overnight, after massive Israeli attacks this week threatened to collapse the Iran ceasefire. The U.S. ally said it planned direct talks with Lebanon, but the Lebanese government has yet to respond.

Iran's supreme leader says Trump made deal 'out of desperation' as US lifts naval blockade
The anticipated talks between the United States and Iran in Switzerland were abruptly called off at the 11th hour on Friday, clouding prospects for a lasting truce as a major escalation in Lebanon
threatened the tenuous agreement to end the war
.
The Swiss foreign ministry said in a statement shared with
The Independent
that
planned talks later today between the US, Iran, Qatar and Pakistan have been “postponed”
.
“Switzerland remains ready to facilitate these talks. The relevant preparatory work at Bürgenstock is continuing. No further information can be provided at present,” they said.
The announcement came hours after the White House confirmed vice president JD Vance would not be travelling to Switzerland, where he had been expected
to meet Iranian negotiations to start discussions on implementing the 14-point memorandum
.
The new deal is supposed to end the war on all fronts and reopen the Strait of Hormuz to pave the way for 60 days of talks on lingering disputes around Iran’s nuclear programme and sanctions. But c…

The United States has launched new airstrikes across Iran this week as President Donald Trump, losing patience over the protracted negotiations to end the war, has leaned into violence to ratchet up the pressure on the Iranian leadership.
The US secretary of defence, Pete Hegseth, made clear the airstrikes would likely continue if the peace deal continued to stall, saying:
If we need to negotiate with bombs, we’ll negotiate with bombs.
This came after Iran and Israel
fired missiles
at one another in recent days and
Iran shot down a US helicopter
.
Up to this point, both the US and the Iranian regime had respected the
precarious ceasefire
that had halted the war in early April. Both sides seemed to want it to continue. And Trump is still insisting a
peace deal is imminent
.
Why, then, are both sides firing on each other now, and where does this leave the negotiations? There are a few plausible explanations.
Escalate to deescalate
In conflicts, states often
escalate to deescalate
. This is when a country ramps up military action with the aim of intimidating the other side into submission.…

Trump is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding with Iran during a ceremony in Switzerland on Friday. Administration officials have described the agreement as a framework that could pave the way for a new round of direct negotiations over Iran's nuclear program and other unresolved disputes.
Speaking on Tuesday, Trump asserted the agreement would prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
"Iran will never have a nuclear weapon, that's what it says," Trump said. "It won't have one to buy, to develop. They will not have a nuclear weapon."
But many of…
