"I have just been informed that we have destroyed and sunk 9 Iranian Naval Ships, some of them relatively large and important," Trump said on his Truth Social network.
"We are going after the rest -- They will soon be floating at the bottom of the sea, also! In a different attack, we largely destroyed their Naval Headquarters. Other than that, their Navy is doing very well!" he added.
Several loud explosions rocked Tehran, AFP reported, as Israeli and US forces continued striking Iran for a second straight day, though the source of the blasts was not immediately clear.

Trump says will urge Netanyahu not to retaliate against Iranian missiles: Report
US President Donald Trump said Sunday he will call Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to urge him not to retaliate against Iranian missile strikes on Israel, news outlet Axios reported."I am going to call Bibi right now and tell him not to retaliate," Trump was quoted as saying by Axios journalist Barak Ravid in a phone interview, using the Israeli leader’s nickname."Each of them had their fun. Israel had its strike and Iran had its strike. We don’t need another one," Trump said, according to excerpts of which Ravid posted on X.Sunday’s missile barrage was Iran’s first against Israel since an April ceasefire took hold in the Middle East war, and Trump voiced concern it could set back negotiations."The Iranian strikes didn’t hurt anybody. Hopefully Israel is not going to retaliate. If Bibi strikes them back it’s just gonna keep going like the last 47 years, or the last 3,000 years," the US president said."We are very close to a final deal with Iran. It is going to be a good deal.

Iran and Israel say they've now halted attacks, after their first exchange of fire since a ceasefire in April. US President Donald Trump told them to stop fighting, as Israel reported 30 missiles from Israel and Israel struck back. Among ordinary Israelis, it stoked of a return to full-blown war.
So I guess the ceasefire is essentially over and Netanyahu has given the finger to Trump.

DUBAI/BEIRUT: Israel carried out an airstrike on the historic port city of Tyre in southern Lebanon on June 9, killing at least eight people. This escalation is putting more pressure on efforts to negotiate a peace deal to end the wider war in the Middle East.
A day earlier, Israel and Iran had stopped direct attacks on each other after U.S. President Donald Trump called for a halt. However, Iran warned it would restart attacks if Israel continued targeting its ally Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The strikes were the deadliest in Tyre since fighting in Lebanon began in early March. The conflict started when Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel in support of Iran after Israel and the United States launched their war against Iran.
Israel had issued an evacuation warning for Tyre earlier on June 9. Residents fled the city, and civil defense teams moved elderly people to temporary shelters, according to state media. Lebanon's health ministry said the eight victims were killed in a single strike on the eastern edge of the city.
Israel's refusal to stop its military campaign in Lebanon, as Iran has demanded, has made it harder for Trump to extend the fragile…

The tenuous ceasefire in the Middle East seemed to be holding on by a thread on Sunday as Israel and Iran exchanged missile fire for the first time since an agreement to end hostilities was reached in April.
Meanwhile, Israel said early Monday that it detected a missile launched from Yemen targeting the country, according to the Associated Press. Yemen is home to the Iran-backed Houthi rebels. And Saudi Arabia sounded air warning sirens in an area close to an air base housing U.S. forces, the AP also reported, though that country said shortly afterwards that the danger had passed.
The escalation amounted to the most significant exchange of fire since the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran was put on pause in April. The renewed fighting also threatened to undermine President Donald Trump’s negotiations with Iran as the U.S. president appears to be seeking a way out of a war that is unpopular with Americans and has sent gas prices soaring.
Trump called for de-escalation ina short Truth Social postMonday morning: “Israel and Iran must immediately stop ‘shooting.’”

Israel, Iran trade fire in first clash since truce
Iran and Israel on Monday attacked each other's territory for the first time since a shaky ceasefire put five weeks of war on hold, sparking fears the escalation could spark a new full-scale conflict. Iran fired a barrage of missiles at Israel overnight and Israel responded by targeting military sites in the Islamic republic, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apparently defying calls by his ally President Donald Trump for restraint.

The United States came close to being pulled back into a wider Middle East conflict over the past 24 hours, even as President Donald Trump has been trying to avoid deeper military involvement, Axios reported.
About 100 days into the war, Trump is still seeking a deal with Iran but spent the last day trying to stop a fresh escalation between Israel and Iran.
The latest tensions began on Sunday when Israel carried out a strike on a Hezbollah-linked target in Beirut. According to Axios, US officials were informed through military channels but the White House was not directly notified in advance.
Thestrike triggered a response from Iran, which launched missiles towards Israel as it had previously warned. Some Israeli officials had earlier believed Iran might not follow through on such threats.
From there, the situation escalated quickly, with multiple rounds of strikes and counterstrikes.
Trump spoke to Israeli Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahuon Sunday evening and urged restraint, according to US officials cited by Axios.

Iran's World Cup team arrived inMexicowearing badges commemorating the 168 children killed in a US missile strike, in a pointed gesture amid a bitter visa dispute with the Trump administration.
Around 175 people, most of them young girls, were killed when a US missile hit a girls' school in the Iranian city of Minab on February 28.
An investigation later found that they made a mistake while launching strikes on a nearby military base which the building was once part of.
Amid the ongoing conflict between the two countries, America has refused to issue visas to some members of Iran's staff for the 2026 World Cup, which gets underway this week.
The nation's soccer federation accused the US government of 'vindictive behavior' in refusing visas for 'key managerial and administrative members' of the team.
And the team has been notified that, under their visa conditions, players must enter and leave US soil on the same day as their matches, according to Iran's ambassador to Mexico.

The Trump administration plans to deport a number of Iranians and other migrants to the Central African Republic, a chronically unstable country racked by violence and poverty, two lawyers and an official briefed on the matter told Reuters.
The Iranians include two women who face potential torture and persecution if they are forced to go back to Iran, their lawyer, Emily Trostle, said. One is a Christian convert, and the other is a pro-democracy activist, she added.
The US State Department and the presidency in the Central African Republic — which recently reached a deal to accept so-called third-country deportees from the US — did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Israeli forces carried out raids across several towns and villages in the occupied West Bank on Saturday, including areas in and around Ramallah and Al-Bireh, according to Palestinian news agency Wafa. The operations reportedly targeted Silwad, al-Mazra’a al-Sharqiya, Deir Jarir, Taybeh and al-Mazra’a al-Gharbiya.
The latest incursions came after Israeli forces entered central Ramallah earlier in the day and fired tear gas canisters. No arrests were reported during the raids, which add to ongoing tensions across the occupied West Bank amid the broader regional conflict.
Iran launched a drone assault targeting Bahrain on Saturday, while a separate attack was reported on a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, marking a fresh escalation in regional tensions despite ongoing efforts to secure a lasting peace agreement with the United States.
The developments came hours after the US carried out overnight airstrikes in response to an earlier Iranian drone attack on a commercial vessel attempting to leave the Strait of Hormuz. Separately, a US-led multinational maritime body announced plans to expand a shipping route near O…

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United States launched airstrikes early Wednesday against Iran, and Tehran fired back at countries in the region. The escalating attacks threatened to derail efforts to

But that title is being

“Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime,” said Trump as he announced the launch of U.S.-Israeli military action early Saturday morning.
The targeted strikes

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The Israeli military announced Sunday it launched strikes on Beirut targeting Hezbollah infrastructure. Smoke could be seen rising over the Lebanese capital.
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strikes were in response to Hezbollah attacks in northern Israel.
When Israel last struck the Beirut suburbs a week ago, Iran responded with strikes on Israel.
Tehran, which is Hezbollah’s main backer, has insisted that any U.S.-Iran ceasefire deal must also include an end to Israeli strikes in Lebanon. Hezbollah fired missiles into Israel on March 2, two days after the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran, sparking war in the Middle East.

"We... identified yesterday simultaneous and coordinated attacks between Iran and Hezbollah, simultaneous missile launching from both Iran and Lebanon in an attempt to overwhelm our aerial defence systems," military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani told journalists.
Two loud explosions were heard in eastern Tehran on Friday, AFP journalists reported, in an area of the Iranian capital that has frequently been targeted in strikes by the United States and Israel during their campaign.
A journalist heard the blasts at around 6pm local time (1430 GMT) and saw two large plumes of black smoke rising in the eastern part of the city, while a third, smaller cloud was visible on the horizon. It was not immediately clear what had been hit. Iran's military has ceased strikes against Israel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told CNBC on Monday, but Tehran warned it would resume hostilities if the IDF continues operations in Lebanon.
Iran and Israel traded strikes on Sunday night for the first time since a ceasefire was agreed between the U.S. and Iran in April. The Islamic Republic fired missiles towards northern Israel after accusing Jerusalem of repeatedly violating the truce through its strikes on Lebanon, which included an attack on Beirut's southern suburbs on Sunday. Israel said it carried out a "large-scale strike on strategic defense systems" in response.
Earlier on Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump insisted the negotiations would continue, despite the fragile truce spilling over.
"Both sides, Israel and Iran, are looking to do an immediate CEASEFIRE! Final negotiations on "Peace" are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way. The Blockade will remain in place, and in full force and effect, until a "Final Deal" is reached. Things should move quickly," Trump wrote on Truth Social. The president earlier posted th…

The United States and Israel launched a major assault on Iran on February 28 with the stated aim of toppling the regime in Tehran. President Donald Trump said that the U.S.-led operation would seek to eliminate Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, destroy the country’s navy, and change its leadership. Addressing the Iranian public in an early morning video that announced the strikes, Trump said that the country “will be yours to take. This will be probably your only chance for generations.”

What to know about the Iran war today:
Israel said Sunday that Iran has launched missiles at it in the first such bombardment since a fragile ceasefire took effect in early April. The reported strikes came after an Israeli air raid on Beirut's southern suburbs killed two people and injured 20 people.
Iran on Saturday accused the United States of violating the fragile ceasefire as the U.S. military reported that it had shot down six Iranian one-way attack drones over the past two days that were headed toward the Strait of Hormuz. Seven ballistic missiles fired at Kuwait and Bahrain early Saturday local time were largely intercepted as well. The U.S. retaliated by launching strikes on Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island.

US President Donald Trump said that a deal with Iran to end the Middle East war could be signed Sunday, and that the strategic Strait of Hormuz would be "open to all" immediately after. But in a potential threat to the efforts to end the conflict, Israel -- which launched the war with the US in February -- said its military had carried out strikes in Beirut's southern suburbs on Sunday.
The Israeli military said on Sunday that Hezbollah fired three projectiles toward communities in northern Israel, calling the launches a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement.
According to the military, the projectiles landed near the towns of Shomera and Shlomi. It added that the incident follows two other projectiles that crossed into Israeli territory over the weekend.

Choosing war over diplomacy on Iran, the United States and Israel launched waves of airstrikes against military and civilian targets in cities across the Islamic Republic on Saturday.
The first U.S.-Israeli strikes came at 9:45 a.m. local time in Tehran. Iran’s supreme leader’s complex and offices of the president and Supreme National Security Council – among a multitude of missile and nuclear targets across the country – were targeted, according to reports.
Iran immediately struck back, firing volleys of missiles at Israel, as well as Arab and Gulf nations Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Jordan, which have hosted U.S. forces or facilitated the strikes. Loud explosions could be heard as missiles impacted or were shot down by air defenses from Tel Aviv, Israel, to Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Several weeks of peace talks are yet to produce a resolution to the conflict.
President Donald Trump announced "major combat operations" against Iran on Feb. 28, with massive joint U.S.-Israeli strikes targeting military, government and infrastructure sites.
Following the announcement of a two-week ceasefire, initial U.S.-Iran talksin Pakistan in April failed to reach a peace deal.
Trump later announced the open-ended extension of the ceasefire and the continuation of a U.S. blockade until negotiations are concluded "one way or the other."
U.S. Central Command announced it had conducted "self-defense" strikes over the weekend, targeting Iranian radar and drone command and control sites in Goruk and Qeshm Island.
CENTCOM said a post on X that the strikes were conducted in response to aggressive Iranian actions, including the shootdown of a U.S. MQ-1 "Predator" drone. The U.S. responded with fighter aircraft, striking Iranian military assets, according to the post.
CENTCOM said that no U.S. servicemembers were harmed in the strikes.

What to know about the Iran war:
Kuwait said Wednesday that an Iranian missile and drone attack hit its international airport, killing one person and wounding dozens more, as the ceasefire between Iran and the U.S. looked increasingly fragile after yet another exchange of fire.
Iran claims it launched a retaliatory attack on U.S. military bases in Kuwait after another set of
airstrikes by American forces
, which Central Command called "self-defense strikes" on Iranian military positions.
Before the latest exchange of fire, President Trump on Tuesday denied reports by Iranian state media that the regime in Tehran had
suspended its indirect negotiations with the U.S.
over Israel's ongoing war with Hezbollah in Lebanon. Mr. Trump insisted talks were "going on continuously."
Israel and Lebanon agreed Wednesday to renew their fragile ceasefire and create a number of "pilot" security zones inside Lebanon where Hezbollah would be banned. But Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported Israeli drone strikes at …

Tehran has backed down and halted its attacks after US President Donald Trump issued a fierce ultimatum for Israel and the Iranian regime to 'immediately stop shooting.'
The Iranian military joint command announced they will stop bombing Israel butwarned that if Israel or its supporters carried out any further 'aggression and hostile acts,' including in southern Lebanon, then 'much more severe and crushing measures than before will follow.'
Trumphad earlier commanded that 'Israel and Iran must immediately stop shooting' adding that 'stupidity' mustn't 'get in the way' of peace talks in an attempt to salvage hopes of a deal following overnight strikes.
Writing on Truth Social, the US leader said earlier this morning: 'Both sides, Israel and Iran, are looking to do an immediate CEASEFIRE! Final negotiations on 'Peace' are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way.

What to know about the Iran war today:
Iran and Israel said Monday that they had halted military operations following a dramatic exchange of fire that tested an incredibly fragile truce between Tehran and Washington.
President Trump told Israel and Iran to "immediately stop 'shooting'" at each other and said both sides were seeking an "immediate ceasefire" after the weekend flare-up that began with Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon's capital Beirut.
Yemen's Houthi rebels said Monday they were banning Israeli vessels from the key shipping lanes of the Red Sea. The Iranian-backed group appears to be engaging more directly in the war, also announcing a missile attack on Israel.

Following a day of fresh clashes between Israel and Iran, Tehran's top negotiator has issued a warning to the US and Israel against any further ceasefire violations. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who is also the speaker of Iran's Parliament, accused Washington and Tel Aviv of forging a ceasefire “on paper” and “violating” it “in the field.”
Israel and Iran fired fresh strikes at each other on Monday, in what constituted the first such exchange since a ceasefire two months ago.
Iran had struck Israel on Sunday after warning of action over Netanyahu's repeated attacks on Lebanon. Israel, last week, targeted the southern suburbs in Beirut, seen as Hezbollah's stronghold, drawing a warning from Iran.
Ghalibaf said Iran had “disrupted the equation of a ceasefire on paper and its repeated violations in the field.”

Iran and Israel said on Monday that they were done with a round of attacks that briefly shattered a two-month cease-fire and threatened to push the Middle East back into full-blown war. Both countries also warned that they stood ready to strike each other again.
Iran’s military said that it was stopping for now, after it fired ballistic missiles at Israel on Sunday in retaliation for an Israeli strike near the Lebanese capital, Beirut, against its ally Hezbollah. But the Iranian military said that if Israel resumed its “aggression and hostile acts,” including in southern Lebanon, which has been occupied by Israeli troops, “much harsher and more forceful actions than before will follow.”
Israel also pulled back on further attacks after it launched two waves of airstrikes across Iran, including against
the country’s largest petrochemical complex
, prompting further Iranian missile fire on central Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, at the urging of President Trump, instructed the Israeli military to halt preparations for another strike on Iran on Monday, according to two Isr…

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United States launched airstrikes early Wednesday against Iran, and Tehran fired back at countries in the region. The escalating attacks threatened to derail efforts to
end the war
, as U.S. President Donald Trump warned that Tehran would “pay the price” for stalled peace negotiations.
Trump’s warning came hours after Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan — all of which host U.S. troops — came under Iranian fire. It was the second time this week that back-and-forth strikes have tested a two-month ceasefire after
Iran and Israel targeted each other
on Monday — again raising the question of how much pressure the deal can take before it cracks.
It was not clear what Trump’s post on Truth Social would mean for Tehran. The comments again underlined the American leader’s whipsaw approach to the war, after he suggested on Monday that a deal to end the co…

Tension rises between Israel and the US amid flare-up with Iran
Israel has struck Beirut following rockets the Israeli military says were sent by Hezbollah, in a blow to the ceasefire introduced two months prior. The flare-up comes despite a call for restraint from US President Donald Trump, who is anxious to show his domestic audience he cannot be pushed around by Israel. FRANCE 24's Angela Diffley looks into the recent developments in the conflict.

Netanyahu says hostilities ceased after Israeli strikes made Iran stop attacks
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on Monday that Israel's strikes on Iran had deterred the Islamic republic from launching further attacks, leading to a cessation of hostilities between the two adversaries. However, Netanyahu warned in a televised statement that should Iran "make the mistake of resuming attacks against us, we will respond with full force". FRANCE 24's Noga Tarnopolsky reports from Jerusalem.

Iran War LIVE Updates: Explosions heard across Iran as Israel retaliates; Trump urges restraint - India TV News
The situation in the Middle East once again escalated on Monday after Iran launched one of its biggest missile attacks on Israel in response to its attacks on Beirut and Lebanon. The strikes are only expected to complicate the mediation efforts to end the conflict in the Middle East that started on February 28, eliminating most of Iran's top leadership, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
According to the Israeli military, missiles in at least three barrages were intercepted by its missiles. Tel Aviv has said Tehran has committed a "grave mistake" and vowed to give a "powerful" response to the attacks, but US President Donald Trump has requested Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "not to retaliate".
"I am going to call Bibi right now and tell him not to retaliate," he told Axios in a telephonic interview. "Israel had its strike and Iran had its strike. We don't need another one."
The strikes by Iran were launched in response to Israel's attacks on Beirut, which left two people dead and 20 wounded. Iran has now closed its airspace, fearing a respons…

Israel vows to respond after Iran launches fresh missile attack
Israel vows to respond after Iran launches fresh missile attack
Iran
fired ballistic missiles at Israel for the first time since April late on Sunday
in a move that threatens to derail sensitive talks to end the war and cast the region back into chaos.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it
targeted Ramat David Air Base in northern Israel
in response to an earlier Israeli attack on the outskirts of Beirut in Lebanon.
They added that any Israeli response would prompt “more crushing and regretful blows”, as the head of the IDF indicated the military was ready to respond as soon as the order was given.
Donald Trump urged Benjamin Netanyahu not to respond and risk another major escalation. He said the strikes resulted in no casualties.
In comments to Axios, the president said: “Hopefully Israel is not going to retaliate. If Bibi strikes them back it’s just gonna keep going like the last 47 years, or the last 3,000 years.”

If Israel ignores their master, Iran will school them: Araghchi warns US to "muzzle its pets" in Tel Aviv after comments on Khamenei
Tehran: Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday issued a sharp warning to the United States, urging Donald Trump to "muzzle its pets" in Israel after Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said that Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was "marked for death".
In a post on X, Araghchi said the United States had committed itself under the terms of the 14-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) reached to end the hostilities in West Asia, as well as restraining Israel, warning that any threat against Iran's leadership would draw an immediate response.
"The terms of the Islamabad MoU are crystal clear and public for all to see. POTUS has committed the U.S. to muzzling its pets in Tel Aviv. If they ignore their master, Iran will school them. Any threat against our People and Leadership will receive Immediate Powerful Response," Araghchi said in the post while sharing the text of Katz's remarks from a report.

US president earlier told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to
hold off on retaliating against Iran
, according to a US official. He also told The Financial Times “I call all the shots,” saying Israel
would have to accept any deal
the US reaches with Iran.
• Talks take strain:
The exchange of fire is the worst between Israel and Iran
since the April truce
— and a major test for negotiations. Trump told Fox News the Iranian strikes are
“not going to help,”
and that he told Tehran to “get back to the table and make a deal.”

The United States and Israel launched coordinated military operations against the Iranian regime on February 28, 2026. The action, focused on the regime's nuclear facilities, military infrastructure, and leadership, followed a conclusion reached in Washington and Jerusalem that diplomacy had been exhausted, and that a nuclear-armed Iran posed an unacceptable security threat to the United States, Israel, America’s Arab allies, and global security.
After 40 days of sustained combat, a ceasefire took effect on April 8, 2026, marking the end of a major joint campaign aimed at degrading Iran’s military capabilities, countering its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, and reshaping the regional security landscape. Here is what you need to know.
U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that the United States launched strikes against the Iranian regime, saying “the United States military began major combat operations in Iran” to “defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime,” and reiterating that Tehran “can never have a nuclear weapon.”

Israel said on Monday it hit a petrochemical plant in Iran's southwest, along with strikes elsewhere on military targets, after US President Donald Trump reportedly told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refrain from further attacks.
In the first hit on an energy site inside Iran since the 8 April ceasefire, Israel said it struck targets at the Mahshahr petrochemical complex, while a provincial official told Iran's semi-official Fars news agency parts of the plant were damaged.
Hours earlier, Trump said new strikes by Israel and Iran would not affect his administration's peace talks with Tehran, adding that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "doesn't call the shots".
Trump has leaned on Israel to stop its attacks in Lebanon to allow room for a deal to end the wider war with Iran, including rebuking Netanyahu with obscenities in a phone call last week.
However, earlier on Sunday Israel launched strikes in the Beirut area for the firs…

Israel launched a new wave of strikes on Iran just moments after a stern warning from President Trump 'not to retaliate' against Tehran.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday hailed the US-brokered agreement with Lebanon, calling it a historic achievement that dealt a blow to arch-foes Iran and Hezbollah.
"Yesterday ... we achieved a historic deal for the state of Israel after direct negotiations between Israel and Lebanon," Netanyahu said in a televised briefing. "This is a blow to Iran and Hezbollah."
Netanyahu reiterated that Israeli forces would remain in the so-called security zone established by the military some 10 kilometres (six miles) inside the Lebanese territory.
"We will remain in the area until Hezbollah and the rest of the terror groups are disarmed," he said.
"Both the United States and Lebanon have recognised Israel's right to maintain a security zone inside Lebanon for as long as it remains necessary to safeguard our security.

Israel and Iran have
traded fire overnight,
in the most serious exchange of hostilities since the ceasefire was agreed in April. The exchange of attacks began on Sunday evening, when Iran sent a barrage of missiles at Israel - which were intercepted.
Tel Aviv has since struck a number of targets in Iran, including a petrochemical complex in the southwest of the country, the Israeli military said. As fears the Middle East may be dragged into a regional war grow, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps said the operation against
Israel
"is not a passing event, but rather the beginning of a full week of continuous strikes". The Iran-backed Houthi group in Yemen have since joined the new hostilities, claiming responsibility for this morning's attack on central Israel and vowing to block "Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea".

Israel and Iran may be seeking an off-ramp to keep the latest flare-up of fighting from boiling over to an extended conflict in the wake of
strikes between the two nations
on Sunday and Monday. The attacks marked the most serious challenge to the shaky ceasefire that
went into effect on April 8
. They took place despite President Donald Trump
urging both sides to stand down
to let the sputtering peace process move forward.
Meanwhile, adding to the tensions, the Houthi rebels of Yemen, an Iranian proxy group,
have threatened to attack Israeli shipping
in the Red Sea region in support of Iran.
As we reported yesterday
, they fired missiles at Israel on Sunday.
Both Israel and Iran said on Monday evening local time that they were ready to stop fighting.

“We’re going to hit them again hard today,” Trump told reporters at the White House hours after US Central Command said it struck Iranian military sites.
Shortly after Trump spoke, the US military said it had fired on an oil tanker trying to transport oil from Iran in violation of its blockage on Iranian ports. It was the eighth merchant vessel disabled in the waters off Iran, US Central Command announced in a social media post Wednesday.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Israel attacked a key petrochemical plant at Iran’s massive South Pars natural gas field and killed a top Revolutionary Guard commander, putting into question the negotiations aimed at getting the U.S. and Tehran to reach a ceasefire.
Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed what he called “a powerful strike on the largest petrochemical facility in Iran” that’s responsible for half of the country’s petrochemical production. Israel’s military spokesperson, Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani, said there would be “no immunity” for Iran as talks progress.

The gas field shared with Qatar is the world’s largest and sits under the waters of the Persian Gulf.
The White House did not immediately respond when asked about the strike. After Israel’s attack in March on South Pars, Trump said Israel would not attack it again but warned that if Iran continued striking Qatar’s energy infrastructure, the United States would retaliate and “massively blow up the entirety” of the field.
