Ranchi, June 18 The incident of petrol bomb attack on the Jharkhand unit office of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Ranchi took a dramatic turn on Thursday after the main accused escaped from police custody and was later re-arrested following an encounter in which he sustained injuries, officials said.
According to the police, the accused identified as Saif, was arrested in connection with the petrol bomb attack -- had been lodged in the lock-up at Kotwali police station. He managed to escape from custody on Thursday afternoon. The police launched a long chase to nab him.

New Delhi [India], July 8 : The National Investigation Agency is conducting searches at 20 places across several states in connection with a case linked to the hurling of a bomb at the RSS office in Ranchi, according to officials.
The officials stated that the searches are being conducted across 5 locations in Uttar Pradesh, 3 locations in Maharashtra, 2 in Delhi and one each in Bihar, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Gujarat, Telengana and West Bengal.

RANCHI: In a significant development, the two accused persons arrested for allegedly hurling petrol bombs at the RSS office in Ranchi are found to have links with terrorist networks.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused allegedly shared videos of the attack with contacts in Pakistan shortly after carrying it out.
Investigators have further found indications that the duo may have been receiving instructions from handlers based in Pakistan and Dubai. Security agencies have now joined the investigation as police probe their communication links, funding channels, and possible wider network.
There are also reports that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had been searching for some of the accused.
Investigators suspect that these alleged terror links could have been a factor behind the attack on the RSS office. However, officials have yet to issue a statement confirming the nature of the affiliations.
Earlier on Wednesday, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had arrested the two accused from Bihar while they were reportedly attempting to flee aboard the Swarna Jayanti Express.

The accused, identified as Saifi Ansari alias Rohit, was among three persons arrested for the June 16 attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office located in the Chutia area of Ranchi. The other two accused have been identified as Aman Ansari and Sayam Sujan.
According to police, Saifi was being held at Kotwali police station when he allegedly escaped on the pretext of going to the bathroom. A police team immediately launched a chase and later intercepted him near the Mandal Toll Plaza area. During the operation, an encounter took place and the accused sustained a gunshot injury. He was subsequently taken into custody and shifted for medical treatment.
