More than a dozen people were killed in an overnight battle between Pakistan paramilitary troops and militants who stormed their base and took families hostage, the army said.
"Well-equipped" fighters assaulted a Frontier Corps compound in Muslim Bagh, Balochistan province, and captured three families in a residential block, the military said.
Fighting raged from Friday evening until Saturday morning and "the complex clearance operation involved hostage rescue operation," the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack but ethnic Baloch separatist groups have for decades waged a rebellion against the state in the southwestern province, frequently targeting security forces.
The Pakistan Taliban is also active in the region.
"The terrorists had not even spared children" in their hostage-taking, ISPR said. All six militants who breached the compound were killed, it said.
Seven "sons of the soil" -- a term generally used for state security forces -- were killed but one individual was a civilian, ISPR said.

Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan Evolves Under Pressure

The recent attack by Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) camp at Badaber, located 10 miles from Peshawar, fully displayed the jihadist group’s professional, yet highly violent, nature. Dressed in uniforms of the Frontier Constabulary (a paramilitary force), 14 militants breached the security parameter of the PAF camp and then entered from two different points in the early hours of September 18. The resulting battle went on for two hours and left at least 28 military personnel and all 14 attackers dead (News International, September 18). Later, five of the dead militants were identified; two of whom were from the Swat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province while three came from the tribal areas where the camp was located (Dawn, September 19).
The attack is the first time an air force camp (as opposed to an airbase) has been targeted by militants. However, PAF airbases have long been repeatedly targeted by TTP and associated groups, and long before the government launched its Operation Zarb-e-Azb anti-militant campaign in June 2014. For instance, PAF Base Kamra, in Punjab province, w…

Massacre, hunt, elimination: The 93-day operation to track Pahalgam ...
One of the deadliest attacks on civilians in recent years in India unfolded on April 22, 2025, in the picturesque meadows of Baisaran near Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, triggering a massive, months-long counterterrorism operation that culminated in the elimination of three terrorists deep inside the forests of Dachhigam.
Last year this day, terroristsdisguised as tourists entered the Baisaran meadowsthrough the surrounding forests. They were armed with automatic weapons and targeted the tourists based on their religion. The terrorist singled out men before shooting the non-Muslim tourists.
The fact that there was only a single entry and exit made the area a massacre ground for the innocent citizens. The dastardly act of cowardice left 26 people dead and 17 injured in an incident considered most horrific attack on civilians in India, since the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
Amid the chaos, an Indian Army officer on leave, Colonel Prashant Bhat, reportedly guided a group of tourists to safety through a gap in the fencing, saving multiple lives.

The attack took place in a remote area of Ziarat district in Balochistan province, police said, without providing further details. The assailants also abducted eight police officers, but all were later recovered by security forces, said Shahid Rind, a spokesman for the Balochistan government.
He said a subsequent clearance operation by security forces ended with 15 militants killed. Rind said intelligence-based operations against militants would continue and vowed that authorities would respond decisively to any such attacks on security forces.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the latest attack, though suspicion is likely to fall on the outlawed Baloch Liberation Army.

Fitna-al-Khawarij is a term that the state uses for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
"A total of 48 khwarij have been killed since last week in the highly skilful and precise operations," a statement from the military's media wing said. Weapons and ammunition have also been recovered from those killed, it said.

THE surge in terrorist violence in Balochistan highlights the renewed threat confronting Pakistan. The martyrdom of at least nine policemen in Ziarat and the arrest of two alleged BLA operatives in Karachi on Tuesday, preceded by deadly violence near Quetta a day earlier, indicate that terrorist groups retain both the capability and intent to challenge the state’s writ.

Any evidence of tactical collaboration between the banned TTP and separatist outfits such as the BLA would mark a dangerous escalation.
