“We want them to have a good leader. We have some people who I think would do a good job,” he added, declining to name anyone.
Trump also said he is taking steps to make sure the people on his list make it through the war alive.
"We are watching them, yeah," he said.
Trump's comments expand on remarks he made

Key Republican Issues Scathing Statement On Iran Deal
The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee thinks President Donald Trump's Iran deal is terrible and suggested "intermediaries" could be undermining the president's objectives.
Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) said he's concerned the memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran, which the White House shared with lawmakers on Thursday, "negotiates away the victories of Operation Epic Fury in ways that are completely out of step with the President's goals."
Wicker has been more willing to criticize the president than most Republicans, but his statement is remarkably scathing. He said a proposed $300 billion fund for Iran's reconstruction "would make Iran's payoff under President Obama's 2015 deal look like a pittance by comparison."
Wicker said it's an "error" to make Israel stand down against the Iranian-backed terror group Hezbollah in Lebanon, and he opposes lifting U.S. economic sanctions against Iran as the deal envisions.
Finally, Wicker suggested the people negotiating the deal -- a group that includes V…

Washington DC [US], June 16 (ANI): US President Donald Trump on Monday (local time) said that Iran has agreed to 'never possess a nuclear weapon,' while dismissing reports that Washington would provide USD 300 million to Tehran under the newly announced peace agreement as 'fake news.'
In a post on Truth Social, Trump reiterated his administration's position that the agreement with Iran would ensure that Tehran does not develop nuclear weapons.
'Iran has agreed to never have a Nuclear Weapon! Also, the story that the US is paying Iran 300 million Dollars is Fake News, put out by the Dumocrats!!!' Trump wrote.
His remarks come amid ongoing discussions surrounding the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the United States and Iran, which establishes a framework for future engagement and links sanctions relief to Tehran's compliance with nuclear verification measures and regional security commitments.
Backing the President's position, US Vice President JD Vance said Trump's diplomatic efforts had once again delivered results and reaffirmed that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remained a central objective of the agreement.

Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi launches scathing attack on US President Donald Trump
Tehran: As tensions remain high amid protests in Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday (local time) launched a scathing attack on US President Donald Trump, warning Washington not to repeat the past mistake, referring to American strikes against three nuclear facilities in Iran as part of a 12-day Iran-Israel war in June, 2025.
Responding to a question from Fox News host Bret Baier on whether he had a message for President Trump, who is considering some kind of action to help the protesters on the ground, the Iranian Foreign Minister said: "My message is do not repeat the same mistake that you did in June," the Iranian Foreign Minister said.

US PresidentDonald Trumplashed out at critics of his agreement with Iran on Thursday, calling those who accused him of offering concessions to end the war "fools", ahead of negotiations in Switzerland on implementing the deal.
Oil prices tumbled after Trump and his Iranian counterpart separately signed their accord to end the Middle East war, with the Strait of Hormuz to reopen but two months of negotiations lying ahead.
In a sudden development after uncertainty over when the deal agreed earlier this week would be formally signed, Trump put his name to it in thick black ink at a candlelit dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles outside Paris on Wednesday.
Macron -- for whom the signing at the palace, which hosted the signing of the treaty that ended World War I, was an immense coup following his hosting of the G7 summit -- shouted "bravo" as Trump signed.

Trump defended his first-term decision to terminate the Iran nuclear deal President Barack Obama had negotiated and his second-term decision to initially strike Iran in June 2025.

After passing notes for three-and-a-half hours Tuesday, Iranian and American negotiators departed their indirect talks in Geneva with an agreement to keep talking. What they’re talking about, exactly, remains an open question.
It’s unclear if the two sides are focused just on Iran’s nuclear program or other issues like the country’s ballistic missiles. Iran’s top negotiator said only that they’d arrived at a “set of guiding principles.” An American official was more circumspect, acknowledging “there are still a lot of details to discuss.”
The readout hardly eased growing fears of an impending regional war. Some officials have started to wonder how long President Donald Trump will allow diplomatic efforts to proceed. Adding to the sense of malaise, Iran conducted military exercises with cruise missiles and boats as the talks were underway, …

Beyond the bubble of hardened MAGA cultists and a smattering of elite pundits, the joint American-Israeli war on Iran announced by a somnolent President Trump on February 28 is widely regarded as a pointless fiasco that is doing incalculable and growing damage to the global economy. The fact that the president once again unilaterally extended the ceasefire with Iran last week means that he still has no credible ideas about how to get traffic moving through the Strait of Hormuz. He’s similarly flummoxed when it comes to imposing America’s settlement terms on an emboldened regime in Tehran—despite his constant insistence that the war has resulted in an unprecedented, monumental American victory.

President Donald Trump has scaled back or set aside nearly all of his biggest goals for the war with Iran.
Trump, for example, initially vowed to obliterate Iran's missile program. But on Wednesday, he signaled Iran would be allowed to have some missiles.
The memorandum of understanding makes extensive concessions to Iran while seeming to achieve few of Trump's original objectives.

Trump says world would have seen ‘economic catastrophe’ if he didn’t strike peace deal
Donald Trump has formally signed the initial peace agreement with Tehran.
The president inked the early-stage deal during his tour of the Versailles palace in France on Wednesday evening.
Trump confirmed the historic moment as he left a subsequent dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron.
“It’s signed, yeah,” Trump told reporters casually. “I signed it in Versailles.”
The
details of the US memorandum of understanding

Details of the 14-point plan, which includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz, ending the wars in Iran and Lebanon, and a $300 bn reconstruction fund for Tehran, had been leaked by several media outlets earlier in the day.
In a speech to the G7, as the details were being revealed, President Trump has said that the world would have been plunged into “economic catastrophe” if he did not strike a peace agreement with Iran.

Iran agrees to no nukes, open oil lanes: VP Vance slams critics as 'America haters'
Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.
So declared US Vice President JD Vance, who defended the newly-announced framework agreement with Iran, framing it as a major foreign policy victory that fulfills President Donald Trump’s long-standing pledge to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
In an X post Vance stated: “The President has been clear from day one: Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. Once again, President Trump’s efforts to establish peace have paid off for the American people, despite countless attempts to thwart it by people who hate America and President Trump.”
The message included a video of Vance delivering remarks from what appears to be the White House grounds or a similar official setting, emphasising resolve and American interests.
The agreement comes following a period of heightened tensions that escalated into direct conflict earlier in 2026.
Key elements, according to reports and administration statements, include:

When will the Iran war end? Here's what Trump has said. - CBS News
From virtually the start of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran in February, President Trump has insisted it is almost over. And he's continued to give timelines ranging from a few days to
a few weeks
.
Fifteen weeks later — three times longer than his initial four-to-five-week estimate — ending the war has proven elusive. The president has at times shifted his language about the conflict, sometimes referring to it as an "excursion" rather than a war. After a sometimes shaky ceasefire was reached in April, Mr. Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth suggested that the "war" phase — Operation Epic Fury — is over, despite intermittent attacks and the lack of an agreement to end Iran's nuclear capabilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz without conditions.

Ever since releasing
a memorandum of understanding
last week that appeared heavily slanted toward Iran, the Trump administration has kept claiming Tehran agreed to
other
major concessions in ongoing negotiations.
The problem is that none of them appeared in the MOU — and Iran keeps denying them.
And given the Trump administration’s own demonstrated credibility problems, it’s not at all clear whom to trust.

(AP Video)
WASHINGTON (AP) — When PresidentDonald Trumpordered strikes on Iran last summer, he and his administration repeatedly declared that the attacks had obliterated the Middle Eastern country’s nuclear program and set back its ability to make a nuclear weapon for years.
In the immediate runup to Saturday’sstrikes with Israel on Iran, however, Trump and members of his administration began issuing more urgent warnings about Iran’s nuclear ambitions. It was among the shifting — and often openly contradictory — messages sent on Iran.
After widespread protests erupted in Iran in January, for example, Trump repeatedly threatened military strikes — only to back off after he said he was assured Tehran had halted killing protesters and not carried out planned executions — except international observers say the death toll froma crackdown over the protestsexceeded7,000. At the same time, following years of scoffing at, and openly campaigning against, the idea that previous conservatives administrations had been advocates for “regime change” missions, Trump seemed tochange his mindand warm to the idea.

Vice President JD Vance on Thursday defended the memorandum of understanding signed by President Donald Trump and Iran, arguing the agreement benefits the United States whether Tehran ultimately complies with its terms or not.
"Their nuclear program has been completely destroyed," Trump said during a White House briefing. "Their capacity for enrichment facilities ... those facilities are still destroyed. Their conventional military is still destroyed. Their capacity to threaten their neighbors is largely gone."
Trump signed the deal in France on Wednesday, and Vance said it was already producing results, pointing to lower oil prices and increased shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Mojtaba Khamenei says he approved Iran-US MoU despite reservations
US President Donald Trump denied the United States would make a $300 billion payment to Iran, though the memorandum of understanding he signed refers to a US-enabled plan of at least $300 billion for Iran’s reconstruction and economic development.
“There is no 300 Billion Dollar payment to Iran by the U.S. That’s Fake News! All there is for the U.S. is Success, Lower Oil Prices, and Victory. Check out the Stock Market. Dumocrat propaganda at play!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The fund has been described as being made up of private-sector money, backed by commitments from companies in the United States, Persian Gulf Arab states, Asia, South America and Africa, with no government money or grants.
Article six of the memorandum of understanding, as read out by a US official on Wednesday, says the United States will work with regional partners to develop the plan and grant the licenses, waivers and permissions needed for the relevant financial transactions.
“The United States of America undertakes with regional partners to develop a definitive, mutually agreed plan with at least USD 300 billion for the reconstruc…

Tehrans top diplomat denounced the US presidents derogatory language during a new round of tensions
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has hit back at US President Donald Trump after he called Iran's leadership "scum" and "violent people."
The spat came as the US resumed strikes in Iran in the most serious flare-up of hostilities since the countries signed a preliminary peace framework last month.
"Addressing the Civilized and Courageous Nation of Iran with derogatory language does not diminish its Greatness," Araghchi wrote on X on Wednesday evening.
"Iranians are known for their civility, culture, and strong moral values. We do not answer vulgarity with vulgarity, but with action: fearlessly and with great valor," he added.
Although the diplomat did not mention Trump by name, Iranian state broadcaster Press TV said he was responding to comments the US president made earlier that day during a NATO summit in Türkiye.
During a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump said he considered the ceasefire with Iran to be "over."
"I don't want to deal with them any more. They're scum," Trump said. "They're led by sick people and the…

Donald Trumphas rejectedIran's response to the US's latest ceasefire proposal.
'I have just read the response from Iran's so-called "Representatives". I don't like it — Totally Unacceptable! Thank you for your attention to this matter,' the President wrote in a Truth Social post yesterday afternoon.
The Trump administration's latest proposal addressed a deal toend the war, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and roll back Iran's nuclear program.
The rejection came as US Ambassador to the UN Mike Walz toldFox NewsSunday host Shannon Bream: 'We're seeing the world align with us.'
'Iran has shown its true colors. Yet President Trump is giving diplomacy a chance, backed by our great US military,' he added.
Tehran wants to end the war on all fronts - including in Lebanon, whereIsraelis fighting the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group - and to ensure the security of shipping, Iranian state TV said.

But he has settled for a deal that appears short of many of the goals he outlined in the early days of the conflict, potentially opening himself up to attacks from hawks in his own party and leaving the US looking strategically worse off than it did before he went to war.

President Trump has announced that the United States and Iran have reached a deal to end their war. “Congratulations to all!” he said in a
posting
on his Truth Social site this evening. He then headed off to oversee the garish public spectacle he’d arranged for his birthday on the South Lawn of the White House. The United States, however, has little to celebrate: Trump and his team, in record time, just lost a war to a militarily mediocre—but nonetheless extremely dangerous—adversary.
The details of the agreement remain unconfirmed, but the president, of course, is eager to spin the outcome as a victory. (Trump was in a hurry to sign the deal on his birthday; the Iranians, who now seem to be in charge of this whole business, instead said they will send someone to a meeting in Switzerland on Friday.) But even before we have the details, it is clear that Trump has failed to achieve every one of the goals he put forward for this war of choice, and now he is determined to sign, seal, and deliver America’s capitulation as quickly as possible.

For more than a week, America’s top diplomat was conspicuously quiet about something that would have seemed very much in his wheelhouse: a nascent agreement with Iran.
This led plenty to surmise that Secretary of State Marco Rubio, like many of his fellow conservative foreign policy hawks, might have had misgivings about it.
Well, now Rubio is actually speaking. But his sales pitch sounds quite a bit different from President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
During visits with Middle Eastern allies to rally support and soothe fears, Rubio has not only avoided forceful affirmations of the controversial
memorandum of understanding
; he’s also sounded a significantly different tone about the particulars of the MOU and the peace process.

Vance claims Trump wants to 'turn over new leaf' in ties with Iranian people
Iran hit back at Donald Trump on Monday after the US president
threatened to “take over the rest of the country”
if the Strait of Hormuz is closed again.
“You make threats; we take action,” Ebrahim Azizi, the head of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, wrote on social media in apparent reference to Trump.
“The Strait of Hormuz is neither your personal casino nor the backyard of modern-day pirates; these are Iranian sovereign waters, and the ultimate decision rests with the noble people of Iran and its brave armed forces.”
Iran lifted its effective blockade of Hormuz last week after agreeing with the US to extend a ceasefire to allow for peace negotiations, but Tehran’s Revolutionary Guards on Saturday declared the waterway shut once again, in response to Israeli strikes in Lebanon.
The US president said in response he had warned Iranian officials that “you close [the strait] and you won’t have a country”, Fox News’s Trey Yingst reported on Sunday.

President Donald Trump signed an agreement to end the Iran war, citing fears of economic catastrophe and stock market turmoil.
Critics warn the agreement cedes nearly all US leverage and grants Iran billions in sanctions relief before key nuclear talks.
Trump's admission that economic costs drove his decision may signal to adversaries they can use similar pressure tactics against Washington.

The January 2026 raid that captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro instilled confidence in US President Donald Trump in the use of lethal force to deliver outsized results. Plenty of people had predicted catastrophe, just as they had predicted it ahead of the June 2025 strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, but it did not occur. Trump saw both operations as clear successes. He came out of these episodes convinced that he had developed an instinct for when force would work and when it would not. He felt confident. Donald Trump claimed to be "number one" on Iran's "kill list" during a rambling press conference in which he failed to explain why his efforts to end the war he started with Tehran have been unsuccessful.

Trump was speaking at The Axios Show, when he said he doesn’t believe there is any limit to his power. He acknowledged that he signed the deal to prevent the war from snowballing into a global economic depression. He, however, denied that he was humbled by that experience.
When he was asked what he learnt about the limits to his power, Trump said, “I haven't learned that lesson yet. I know there are, but there are no limits.”

(TNND) —President Donald Trump on Wednesday said the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran is "over" after Iran violated a ceasefire by attacking commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The comments, made at the start of theNATO summitin Turkey, rattled financial markets, sending oil prices surging more than 6% as investors worried the conflict could escalate and threaten global energy supplies.
Trump called Iran "dirty players" and questioned whether further negotiations were worthwhile.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday
spent nearly an hour
attempting to offer multiple justifications of his decision to go to war with Iran and defended the

after more than 100 days
.
Speaking at the end of his trip to France for this year’s G7 summit, the president opened his

by touting the 60-day memorandum of understanding as one that “achieves everything we set out to accomplish, everything and much more.”
“Ending the current conflict, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and preventing Iran from ever obtaining a nuclear weapon, that's what was all about. That was about 99% Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, they can't develop it, buy it, they can never have a nuclear weapon,” he said.
Trump then briefly pivoted to bragging about stock market gains in the days since the White House announced the tentative agreement with Tehran before claiming that the agreement was “years in the making” because he had in his first term ordered the killing of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps leader Gen. Qassem Soleimani, who he praised as a “mad genius”…

Strip away the bombast and superlatives. Let the apocalyptic, threat-laden deadlines slide. The dynamics of
President Donald Trump’s
war on
Iran
suggest it is likely to end with a whimper not a bang.
Trump has stumbled into the trap of many presidents before him: the illusion of a swiftly executed military operation, bringing enduring political change. But war and peace is never that binary. And as Trump gives his negotiators more time to make headway, the stage is increasingly set for the vague greyness that usually ends conflicts, to limp this one to a close: talks.
Wartime leaders tend to speak in absolutes, and Trump has been keen to exude many. But his most grandiose ambitions for Iran will likely stay out of reach. He cannot guarantee Iran will never have a nuclear weapon – just heavily degrade and delay t…

What's inside Trump's last-minute rush to sign the Iran nuclear deal at ...
US President Donald Trump pushed through a hurried, late-night signing of his agreement with Iran at Versailles last week jumping ahead of aplanned ceremony in Switzerlandbecause he wanted the deal to take effect immediately.
Trump was about to sit down for dinner at the Versailles palace on 17 June when he told French President Emmanuel Macron and his own aides he wanted to sign the Iran agreement that same night, not at the scheduled event two days later in Lucerne. Macron quickly arranged it.
As the two leaders toured the palace, Secretary of State Marco Rubio worked with French officials to print the document. Trump signed it just past 1 a.m. local time, calling out to reporters that the deal was done.
The Lucerne signing never happened. Vice President JD Vance, the lead US negotiator, postponed his trip after Iran pulled out over renewed fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Trump’s team had been looking for a way out of the war for months. Officials worried that shrinking global oil reserves and rising economic strain were becoming political risks ahead of the midterm elections.

"It's a very interesting question to me. I think it's over. I don't want to deal with them anymore," Trump told a reporter.
"They're scum. You know what scum is? They're scum. They're sick people. They're led by people, and they're vicious, violent people," he continued, though he added he would allow U.S. negotiators to "keep talking if they want."
"I don't care. They can talk, but I think they're wasting their time. They're a bunch of lying guys," he said.

President Donald Trump brought his usual brand of blunt talk to the G7 summit, as tensions remain high over a proposed ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran.
Scripps News spoke with Peter Loge, the director of the project on Ethics and Political Communications at George Washington University, about President Trump's brusque diplomatic approach and what to expect from the high-stakes moment.
"I think for his supporters, this exactly what they're looking for," Loge said. "The rest of the world has always been cautious about it. His opponents have always hated it. I think increasing numbers of people in the middle are saying, 'Okay, we're done with the shouting, can w…

WASHINGTON
— President Donald Trump issued a series of increasingly stark warnings to Iran this week as the United States sought to pressure Tehran into reopening the Strait of Hormuz and accepting a fragile ceasefire in the ongoing Middle East conflict, blending apocalyptic rhetoric with offers of potential peace.
AFP
Trump's comments, delivered via Truth Social posts, White House remarks and interviews over recent days, have drawn sharp international condemnation while highlighting the high-stakes diplomacy aimed at ending weeks of escalation involving U.S., Israeli and Iranian forces. The rhetoric peaked Tuesday with a deadline for Iran to comply or face what the president described as devastating consequences for the nation's infrastructure.
Here are five of Trump's most recent notable quotes on the Iran situation, drawn from public statements between April 5 and April 9, 2026:

Trump hails US exceptionalism before veering into darkly political speech to usher in America 250
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has ushered in the 250th anniversary of American independence with soaring rhetoric about American exceptionalism before veering into a darkly political speech with warnings about communism. Trump's speech Friday night at Mount Rushmore swerved from the typically apolitical, unifying speeches past presidents have delivered during high-profile Independence Day celebrations. In New York City, Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist, delivered his own address that cast America as a nation of contradictions “working each day towards the perfection in which it was conceived.” The president’s speech capped an Independence Day eve that was otherwise most notable for a brutal heat wave the gripped much of the eastern portion of the country.

(CNN) —
President Donald Trump was about to sit down for
dinner at Versailles
on Wednesday when he surprised both his host, French President Emmanuel Macron, and some of his own aides with a demand: he wanted to sign his agreement with Iran then and there.
Trump’s top diplomat had received word on the way to the palace that the document had been finalized. But there was already a signing ceremony scheduled for two days later at an ultra-exclusive mountainside retreat overlooking Lake Lucerne.
Vice President JD Vance
, the top American negotiator of the accord, was supposed to head to Switzerland to ink the memorandum of understanding and begin the next round of technical talks with Iran.
Trump, however, was adamant the agreement take effect immediately. He insisted he sign it that night. Macron advised them he could arrange it quickly, according to o…

Whether U.S. bombing can make that happen remains unclear
In announcing theU.S. military strike on Iran, President Donald Trump went significantly beyond his previous justification of destroying the country's nuclear program.
He's now also calling for regime change -- and encouraging the Iranian people to rise up and overthrow their government.
Three sourcesbriefed on the attack told ABC NewsthatIran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian were both targetedduring the strikes.
But whether American bombing could help make regime change happen --without also deploying U.S.forces on the ground -- was unclear, as was who might replace Iran's current leaders.
"Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime, a vicious group of very hard, terrible people," Trump announced in a video posted to his social media account early Saturday morning.
Speaking to what he called "the great, proud people of Iran," he added, "I say tonight that the hour of your freedom is at hand."

"Favourable to Iran": John Bolton warns US-Iran MoU repeats past mistakes, says "Trump in difficult position"
By By Ayushi Agarwal
Washington DC [US], June 19 (ANI): John Bolton, former US National Security Advisor to President Donald Trump, has sharply criticised the newly signed US-Iran agreement, calling it 'very favourable to Iran' and warning that it repeats the same structural mistakes that plagued previous deals regarding Tehran's nuclear programme.
In an interview with ANI, Bolton argued that the agreement grants Iran significant economic and strategic concessions while failing to fully secure Washington's core objective of guaranteeing unrestricted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
He said that the MoU does not restrict Tehran from charging tolls or imposing conditions on the maritime traffic through the vital naval route.
'I think the deal is very favourable to Iran, and the one issue that mattered most to Trump, which is opening the Strait of Hormuz, is not fully resolved by this deal,' Bolton said.
'I mean, we'll see what happens, we'll see whether Iran tries to charge tolls, for example, or imposes other conditions on maritime traffic. This agreement does not pr…

Vice President JD Vance said the United States now holds the decisive leverage over Iran’s future, warning that Donald Trump would order fresh strikes on Tehran if Iranian leaders fail to honor an expected agreement with Washington.
President Trump said Sunday that the US and Iran had reached a deal aimed at ending the conflict, and he signaled optimism about the outcome by declaring: “Let the oil flow!”
But in an interview with Sean Hannity on Monday night, Vance stressed that both the US and its allies in the Middle East remain highly wary of Tehran’s intentions.
He issued a blunt warning that if Iran does not follow through on what it has pledged, Trump would be prepared to restart military action.
“I’ve known President Trump for a long time,” Vance said. “I would say that means go back and resume bombing. It could. It could be, and he would. I don’t think he would hesitate.”
Vance also said Trump could choose to reimpose a US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran again launched drone and missile attacks Sunday targeting Bahrain and Kuwait in response to new U.S. airstrikes against the Islamic Republic, and threatened a “complete halt” in negotiations to end the war if Washington continues its attacks.
Here’s what we’re following:
Trump said Monday on social media that Iran had requested a meeting with U.S. counterparts, though Iranian officials said no such meeting was scheduled.
The U.S. president has tried to preserve an increasingly fragile interim deal as hostilities have mounted in the Strait of Hormuz in recent days, which could cause oil prices to rise and undermine Trump’s claims to voters that inflation in America was easing.
Trump said the meeting with Iran would happen on Tuesday in Doha, Qatar.
Trump on Monday celebrated that U.S. oil futures were trading at roughly $69 a barrel, a decrease that he credited to the interim deal with Iran.
Even though the president has previously said oil prices and domestic political concerns were not influencing his approach to Iran, Trump has repeatedly focused on lower oil prices with the reopening of the Strait…

A U.S. official told

The message, the official said, was “You’re fucking crazy. You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving your ass. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this.” Later that evening, the official White House account

The spectacular bust-up, which Trump

today, reveals a deeper problem. With a nuclear deal with Iran out of reach, Trump seems content to defer the problems he faces instead of squaring up to them. There may be an end to violence, but any peace will be temporary and inherently unstable. The war will likely resume at intervals over the next few years, with grave consequences for all concerned.
Trump clearly does not want to go back to all-out war at the moment.

President Donald Trump said the U.S. will work with Iran to retrieve and destroy its highly enriched uranium if he is able to cut a deal with Tehran to end the three-month-old war between the countries — or, in the absence of an agreement, that he will further degrade the Iranian military to the point that American forces can safely collect the material on their own.

“If we make a deal that now we’re friendly, we’ll all go together. It’ll be our equipment. We’ll take it out and destroy it, whether it’s on-site or whether we take it off-site,” Trump said in an interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”
“And we will go with them, or without them. But we won’t have people shooting at us, OK?” Trump said. “Now, if we don’t make a deal, then we’re going to take them out militarily very harshly. And we’ll w…

Trump Claims Iran Agrees to Most US Demands Amid Nuclear Threats and ...
Donald Trump recently asserted that Iran had agreed to the majority of U.S. demands. While Trump has characterized his actions as hitting them hard and stated there is no retreat from destroying “Iran’s nuclear,” the current status of diplomatic channels remains complex, with various stakeholders tracking shifts in Iranian policy.
The assertion comes as observers monitor potential policy realignments in Washington. Iran has continued to expand its uranium enrichment capabilities, raising significant concerns among Western powers. These technical developments often serve as the primary focus for policymakers.
Evaluating the Strategy
The policy aimed to force Iran back to the negotiating table. Proponents of this approach have argued that the economic strain effectively limited Tehran’s ability to fund regional proxies. However, critics suggest that the strategy prompted Iran to increase its enrichment activities as a form of leverage, moving further away from the constraints outlined in the original 2015 agreement.
The current administration continues to monitor Iranian compliance with international non-prolif…

Donald Trump
sought to justify the immense cost of his
war in Iran
in a rambling speech to reporters at the G7 summit on Wednesday, declaring he “got everything” he wanted from the conflict despite growing doubt over his peace agreement.
The US president was speaking at the meeting in the French Alps as
details emerged of the 14-point plan
signed between Washington and Tehran, which will see a 60-day ceasefire put in place for talks on Iran’s nuclear programme and other contentious issues.
“On Sunday, we reached an agreement with Iran that achieves everything we set out to accomplish, everything and much more, ending the current conflict, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and preventing Iran from ever obtaining a nuclear weapon, that’s what it was all about,” Mr Trump told reporters gathered in Évian-les-Bains.
“Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, they can’t develop it, buy it, they can never have a nuclear weapon.”

Oil markets have surged sharply since the conflict began, adding to economic uncertainty worldwide. Meanwhile, Iran has appointed Mojtaba Khamenei, the second son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as the country’s new supreme leader.
Earlier in the day, Trump described the conflict as “very complete” during an interview with CBS News. According to Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov, Trump also spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the situation in Iran and other international matters. 'You go into Iran, you don't ask': Finland's President Alexander Stubb ...
Finnish President Alexander Stubb on Wednesday, May 27, gave a blunt assessment of changing US global strategy and warned that the American foreign policy under President Donald Trump has shifted from alliance-led diplomacy to unilateral power projection.
He said that Washington no longer seeks allied consent before taking major international action and argued the NATO alliance remains strategically indispensable to the United States.

Speaking at an event in Vilnius, Lithuania, Stubb said the Trump administration had fundamentally changed how America projects power on the world stage. “You go into Venezuela, you don’t ask. You make claims on Greenland, you don’t ask. You go into Iran, you don’t ask,” Stubb said, contrasting the current approach with previous US administrations that sought UN mandates or coalition backing before military action.

The Finnish President said the United States no longer operates the way it once did under the post-Cold War liberal order. “The Americans don’t ask anymore. So that’s a different way of projecting power,” Stubb said.

Buergenstock
– U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday threatened to restart war with Iran even as Vice President JD Vance met Iranian officials for the first talks under a peace deal, overshadowed by Tehran's announcement it had closed the Strait of Hormuz.
The talks in the Swiss mountain resort of Buergenstock owned by mediator Qatar were the first to be held under the terms of a memorandum of understanding agreed a week ago.
It calls for the strait to be reopened and a halt to all hostilities, including in Lebanon, which U.S. ally Israel invaded in March. But Iran, arguing that Washington had failed to meet its commitment to halt fighting in Lebanon, said it had shut the strait again and Sunday's talks would not cover substantive issues such as Iran's nuclear programme.
"Iran must immediately stop their highly paid PROXIES in Lebanon from causing trouble. If they don't, we'll hit Iran very hard again, just like …

Assessing Trump's Claims on Iran's Nuclear and Missile Capabilities
In discussing his reasoning for launching U.S. airstrikes on Iran, President Donald Trump said, “An Iranian regime armed with long-range missiles and nuclear weapons would be a dire threat to every American.” But arms control experts have disputed his claim that Iran “soon” could have missiles capable of reaching the U.S., and they say there’s a lack of evidence that the country “attempted to rebuild” nuclear enrichment facilities damaged by U.S. strikes last year.

More questions than answers: What Trump left unsaid on Iran
From war aims to exit strategy, key gaps remain unresolved
President Donald Trump used his national address to project confidence in the US campaign against Iran — but left some of the most critical questions unanswered. While he spoke of military progress and suggested that objectives are “nearing completion,” the speech offered little clarity on what comes next.
Instead, the address exposed a series of unresolved issues at the heart of the conflict: whether the US is pursuing regime change, what has happened to Iran’s nuclear material, how the Strait of Hormuz crisis will be resolved, and what kind of endgame Washington is actually working toward.
These are not peripheral concerns. They go directly to the risks facing the region, global energy markets, and the credibility of US strategy. Taken together, they suggest that even as Trump claims progress, the bigger picture remains uncertain — and potentially volatile.
Here’s a look at some of the unanswered questions after Trump’s national address.

Far from the quiet, calculating whispers typical of high-stakes international diplomacy, Trump’s defense was marked by a raw, unfiltered intensity that laid bare his long-standing, obsessive rivalry with his predecessor, Barack Obama. For Trump, this new memorandum of understanding was not merely a diplomatic triumph; it was a personal vindication, a chance to definitively rewrite the narrative of American foreign policy in the Middle East. He passionately insisted to a packed room of journalists that, unlike the landmark nuclear pact negotiated in 2015, his deal did not involve the United States paying off Tehran or offering premature, unearned concessions. The atmosphere in the briefing room crackled with a palpable tension as Trump sought to convince both the press corps and a s…

Inside the unraveling of U.S. diplomacy under Trump

London
– When Donald Trump warned Iran on April 7 that “a whole civilization will die tonight,” a European diplomat in Washington said his government wanted an urgent answer to a chilling question: Was the U.S. president contemplating the use of a nuclear weapon?
Across Europe and Asia, the concern went beyond whether Trump’s apocalyptic threat was real or bluster. One fear, the diplomat said, was that Russia could seize the moment to justify similar threats in Ukraine, triggering a nuclear crisis on two continents.
European governments immediately sought reassurance through a traditional channel: the U.S. State Department. But according to the diplomat, officials there gave an unsettling response: They didn’t know what Trump meant or what actions his words might portend.
The previously unreported episode points to a historic breakdown in American diplomacy. At a moment when a uniquely unpredictable U.S. president is rattling markets and capitals with dramatic pronouncements, governments around the world are scrambling for clarity, only to discover that their usual points of contact – at U.S. embassies or inside Washingto…

U.S. President Donald Trump says there “will be no deal” with Iran unless it surrenders unconditionally, a day after Iran’s Foreign Minister said the country was prepared to stand up to a ground invasion. Trump has also said that any new leadership of the country would have to be “acceptable” to the United States. This follows what has now been seven days of heavy U.S.-Israeli bombardment, including a new major wave of strikes by Israel targeting Iranian leadership in Tehran overnight.

Trump downplays Iran's nuclear threat as ceasefire collapses - CNBC
PresidentDonald Trumpon Wednesday said Washington's ceasefire with Iran is over, and threatened more military action, after the two sides clashed overnight.
Trump, in a flurry of remarks during numerous press events on his final day at theNATO summitin Ankara, Turkey, also signaled the U.S. would reimpose its naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.
Later, he seemed to downplay the nuclear threat posed by Iran, while ruling out the need for any U.S. troops on the ground in the country.
"We've already got the nuclear material because it's so far underground, nobody's going to be able to get it except us, because we have the equipment that can get it," Trump told reporters during a meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, referring to the aftermath of U.S. attacks on Iranian nuclear sites last year.
The nuclear assessment marked a pivot from his justification for the Iran war, which he began Feb. 28. Trump has cited his concern that Iran was on the brink of developing a nuclear weapon for continuing the conflict.

United States President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Iran, declaring that the US is prepared to completely dismantle the country's infrastructure "in a small part of an afternoon" if a diplomatic deal cannot be reached.
"We're going to win one way or the other. We're going to make a deal or we're going to finish the job, okay. And it won't be tough to finish the job," Trump was quoted as saying.

Donald Trump weighed returning to 'full-blown war' with Iran: Report
United States President Donald Trump had considered returning to full-blown war once again in Iran, but has now decided to focus on continuing with diplomatic efforts, The Wall Street Journal reported.
He also told his advisors that if the nuclear deal is not completed even by the 60-day August 18 deadline, it would not be a problem.
The publication, citing US officials, reported that Trump held talks recently with Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine to discuss whether the US should continue the negotiations with Iran or carry out strikes instead.
The report added that unnamed individuals described any potential attacks on the regime as “finishing the job”.
Trump does not appear to be interested in taking any military action as a response to Iranian violations of the memorandum signed between both sides. He reportedly thinks that restarting the conflict will not allow the US to dismantle the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program, and could also damage any possibility of reaching a diplomatic solution.

President Donald Trump said he sees the
ceasefire with Iran as "over,"
calling Tehran's leaders "scum" and "liars" after a series of attacks on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz triggered waves of retaliatory strikes.
Trump's declaration leaves big questions about what happens next in a war that was supposed to be over, one that has shaken energy markets and sent global commodity prices spiraling, including oil, and threatened to envelop the entire Middle East in conflict.
Iran has also created fresh rifts between
Trump and NATO allies
over their reluctance to support the U.S.; divided his MAGA base, which is deeply skeptical of foreign adventurism; and threatened to derail Republican efforts to keep majority control of Congress by driving up the cost of living, especially gas prices.

Trump Criticizes Iran’s Continued Nuclear Enrichment Demands After Bibi Call | Jewish Insider
President Donald Trump on Monday criticized Iran’s continued demands on uranium enrichment as part of the terms of a nuclear deal with the United States. . . . “They [Iran] are good negotiators, but they’re tough. Sometimes they can be too tough, that’s the problem. So we’re trying to make a deal so that there’s no destruction and death. We told them that. I have told them that. I hope that is the way it works out. It might not work out,” Trump said. Asked what the main impediment to getting a deal with Iran is, Trump replied: “They’re just asking for things that you can’t do. They don’t want to give up what they have to give up, you know what that is. They seek enrichment, we can’t have enrichment. We want just the opposite. And so far, they’re not there. I hate to say that because the alternative is a very, very dire one, but they’re not there. They have given us their thoughts on the deal and I’ve said it’s just not acceptable.”

Trump named 5 goals for Iran war but has achieved only one ... - MS NOW
President Donald Trump announced the U.S. and Israeli war against Iran three months ago this week. In a brief late-night speech from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Feb. 28, Trump laid out five goals for the conflict that he and his aides have since repeated. The president also briefly described a sixth goal that rarely has been mentioned.
Whether the United States has achieved those goals is the focus of fierce debate. Democrats have declared the war a debacle. Trump and his aides have declared it a resounding and complete success and have said media coverage that questions that success is“treasonous.”
“The media here, not all of it but much of it, wants you to think just 19 days into this conflict that we’re somehow spinning toward an endless abyss or a forever war or a quagmire,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said ata March 19 press conference. “Nothing could be further from the truth.”
A review of the current status of the conflict and interviews with experts suggests the Trump administration has achieved only one of the five goals the president himself outlined on Feb. 28. And the administration’s…

US President Donald Trump claimed the United States could eliminate Iran's top leadership in "one shot" but deliberately refrained from targeting them during the funeral of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, saying such a strike would have ended any possibility of negotiations with Tehran.
"They are all there. One shot [and we can take them all out], but we are not going to do that because then we would have nobody to negotiate with," Trump told Axios, adding that he was following Khamenei's funeral.
According to Trump, both Washington and Tehran have agreed to avoid military action while diplomatic efforts remain underway.
Trump claimed Iran is eager to resume negotiations over its nuclear programme and broader regional issues.
"The Iranians are begging to make a deal," he told Axios, adding that both sides had decided to pause negotiations for about a week until events surrounding Khamenei's funeral conclude.
He said the temporary pause also includes an understanding that neither side would carry out military strikes during that period.

"When we did this, we thought oil would go much higher, and it didn't... and now, it's coming way down — and you're going to see oil drop very low," Trump said.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent echoed the president's remarks, saying the United States had weathered the conflict better than other countries because of its domestic energy production.
"The US is an energy superpower. It's why we weathered the conflict better than anyone else," Bessent said.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said American forces targeted Iranian military assets used to threaten shipping through the Strait of Hormuz during overnight strikes, warning that Washington was prepared to hit more targets if necessary.

Trump's Unfinished Iran War Goals: A Strategic Analysis
Trump's Unfinished Iran War Goals: A Strategic Analysis
As US signals wind-down, key objectives remain unclear or unmet
Washington: President Donald Trump has listed five objectives that the US wants to achieve before ending its war with Iran. Now, as he suggests the US may soon be “winding down” the operation after three and a half weeks, some of his key aims remain undefined or unfulfilled.
Trump most recently outlined five goals for the massive air campaign. That’s up from four laid out by his staff and since the war’s start Feb. 28 (and up from the three generally enumerated by the Pentagon and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.) Though the Trump administration has said its objectives are clear and unchanging, the list of priorities has expanded and shifted as the war has taken a toll on the global economy, tested alliances and raised unanswered questions about the planning for the conflict, its justification and its aftermath.
By most accounts, the strikes by the US and Israel have significantly degraded Iran’s military capabilities and killed scores of senior leaders. But those tactical successes don’t necessarily translate to achieving all the president’s strategic aims.

Trump tells CNBC: 'I don't care' if Iran negotiations are over
PresidentDonald Trumpon Monday shrugged off the possible collapse of peacenegotiationswithIran, telling CNBC, "I don't care if they're over, honestly."
"I really don't care. I couldn't care less," Trump told CNBC'sEamon Javersin a phone interview midday Monday, saying he thought the protracted discussions "started to get very boring."
Trump had been asked about the prospect of Iran ending talks with the U.S. in light of reporting earlier Monday that Iranian negotiators would take that step — and also move to "completely block" the Strait of Hormuz — due to Israel's military operations in Lebanon against the Iran-backed militia Hezbollah.
Asked if the Iranians told him that they are not going to negotiate further, Trump said, "No, they haven't."
Trump said he was "going to ask" Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "what's going on with Lebanon."
Trump said in aTruth Social postMonday afternoon that he "had a very productive call" with Netanyahu. "There will be no Troops going to Beirut, and any Troops that are on their way, have already been turned back," Trump wrote.

In a 20-minutespeechon April 1, President Donald Trump referred to nuclear weapons over 20 times. The speech opened with an overview of the risks of a nuclear Iran as justification for the war and outlined progress in setting back the program: “For years, everyone has said that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons. But in the end, those are just words. If you’re not willing to take action when the time comes.”
By relying on the nuclear justification for the war, however, Trump may have painted himself into a corner because now, the end of the war must also have a nuclear solution. The nuclear issue is likely to determine not only when the war ends, but also how it ends, and who can claim “victory.” Ultimately, Trump needs a face-saving and expeditious off-ramp to resolve the nuclear issue if he is to achieve his objectives as outlined in the speech.
Trump’s speech included a nuclear justification for the war and a broad overview of the damage done to Iran’s nuclear program, but the de…

Why did President Trump decide to attack Iran? It depends on what day of the week you ask. On Saturday, the president claimed in a recorded address that he acted because Iran’s rulers
refused
to “renounce their nuclear ambitions” and were developing long-range missiles that threatened America and its allies. On Sunday, a senior administration official
told
reporters that Iran and its proxies “posed an imminent threat to U.S. personnel and allies in the region.” On Monday, House Speaker Mike Johnson and Secretary of State Marco Rubio
suggested
that Trump acted preemptively to protect U.S. forces in advance of an unavoidable Israeli attack on Iran that would inevitably lead Iran to retaliate against America. The next day, Trump rejected this framing,
telling
reporters that “if anything, I might have forced Israel’s hand” because he believed Iran was “going to attack if we didn’t do it.”
All of these pretexts present problems. Why would America need to destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities if, as Trump previously claimed, they’d been
“completely and totally obliterated”

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (local time) said his administration will soon decide whether to sell F-35 fighter jets to Turkey despite a congressional ban, while also announcing that sanctions imposed over Ankara's purchase of the Russian S-400 air defence system would be lifted.
"We have a better relationship with Turkey, and Turkey has been in many ways much more loyal than other countries that we think would be loyal," Trump said, arguing that many believe Turkey should be allowed to purchase the F-35 despite its acquisition of the Russian-made S-400 system.
Calling the F-35 "the best plane by far", Trump said the proposed sale was "certainly something we will consider."
US officials said Trump is expected to signal this week that he is willing to sell F-35 fighter jets to Turkey, reversing a ban imposed during his first term that was later codified into law by Congress.

The Iran deal is dead, according to the U.S. president.
Donald Trump bitterly referred to Iran’s leadership as “scum” during a NATO summit presser in Ankara, Turkey, on Wednesday, telling reporters that he believes peace negotiations—and the regional ceasefire—are “over.”
“I don’t want to deal with them anymore. They’re scum. Do you know what scum is?” Trump

“They’re liars. We make a deal—if I make a deal with him, we have a deal, and it goes out and he talks,” Trump said, briefly gesturing to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. “We make a deal, everyone’s agreed, no nuclear weapons. Iran has not reached a final understanding with the United States despite continued exchanges of messages and will wait to see whether Washington actually ends what Tehran calls an illegal naval blockade, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei told state TV.
Baghaei said Iran “said goodbye to the language of ‘must’ 47 years ago” and that Western governments cannot dictate terms to the Islamic Republic.
“We make our own decisions based on the interests and rights of the Iranian people,” he said.
He also said what Washington has described as a naval blockade was illegal from the beginning, calling it both a violation of the ceasefire and a disruption of international freedom of navigation.
Baghaei said Tehran would wait to see whether the United States follows through in practice on its stated position or whether it is merely a “propaganda claim.”
“If they do it, it means stopping an unlawful act they started a few weeks ago and should never have committed in the first place,” he said.
On a possible understanding with Washington, Baghaei said messages were still being exchanged but no final agreement had been re…

Trump administration's mixed messaging on war with Iran: ANALYSIS
Questions remain about why military action was needed and how long it will last.
Days into President Donald Trump'swar against Iran, much of the administration's messaging has been confusing or contradictory.
Without a clear presentation to Congress or a formal address to the nation, the administration's communication has been scattershot and intermittent, leaving Americans with the task of piecing it all together.
Here's what the president and top officials have said about why urgent military action was necessary, how long this war will last and whether regime change is the goal.
When announcing that the military operations had commenced, President Trump said on Saturday "our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime, a vicious group of very hard, terrible people."
But he didn't elaborate. Enter Secretary Marco Rubio Monday, explaining that the imminent threat was really fear of a retaliatory strike by Iran, knowing that Israel was poised to strike first and "with our without" the U.S., House Speaker Mike Johnson added.
"The imminent threat was that we …

resident Trump was on a conference call
late last month from the Situation Room with leaders from across the Middle East and South Asia to pitch a deal that he believed was within reach to end the conflict in Iran. Trump asked for their support in a roll call, going one by one through Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, and Pakistan. All answered in the affirmative. Trump’s tone, according to officials briefed on the conversation, suggested that he believed each country should be in his debt for taking on Iran. And he wanted their individual sign-off so he could claim a joint initiative to rein in the regime.
But then Trump reached for something bigger: He proposed linking the Iran negotiations to a major expansion of the Abraham Accords, the U.S.-brokered agreements normalizing relations between Israel and some of its neighbors that Trump regards as a signature foreign-policy achievement. He suggested that those countries that hadn’t yet joined the Abraham Accords get on board—but receiv…

Iran dismisses claims on nuclear program and missiles as 'repetition of ...
Iran on Wednesday criticized the United States and Israel for spreading "disinformation" about its nuclear program and ballistic missiles, describing the allegations as "the repetition of big lies."
Meanwhile, the largest U.S. military buildup since the 2003 Iraq war continues to surge toward the region ahead of Thursday's (Feb. 26) nuclear talks.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei responded sharply to President Donald Trump's State of the Union remarks, in which the U.S. president vowed to never allow Tehran to acquire a nuclear weapon and claimed Iran is developing missiles capable of reaching American soil.
"'Repeat a lie often enough, and it becomes the truth" is a law of propaganda coined by Nazi Joseph Goebbels. This is now systematically used by the U.S. administration and the war profiteers encircling it, particularly the genocidal Israeli regime, to serve their sinister disinformation and misinformation campaign against the nation of Iran," Baghaei said on the social media platform X.
"Whatever they're alleging regarding Iran's nuclear program, Iran's ballistic missiles, and …

President Donald Trump said Wednesday negotiations with Iran are progressing “very well” and a deal could happen “over the weekend,” downplaying recent U.S. and Iranian strikes that have raised questions about the durability of a fragile ceasefire.
The House for the first time Wednesday approved a war powers resolution that would halt the U.S. military action against Iran, defying President Donald Trump as a handful of Republicans joined with Democrats to end the three-month-long conflict.

President Trump yesterday signed a framework agreement to end the war with Iran
during a dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron at Versailles. Earlier that day, the Trump administration
shared details of the deal
while Trump answered reporters' questions at a press conference capping off his visit to the G7 summit. The framework also aims to restore oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz. In the document, Iran commits to not building a nuclear weapon, while the U.S. says it is prepared to lift decades of sanctions, potentially allowing Iran to rebuild its devastated economy.

Trump administration officials have suggested that the emerging Iran agreement could give Tehran access to as much as $300 billion from other countries.
President Donald Trump repeatedly accused former President Barack Obama of funding terrorism by allowing Iran access to far less money in the 2015 deal.
The administration emphasizes the new funds would come from Gulf nations and depend on Iran's compliance with conditions.

War to resume again? Trump briefed on 'finishing the job'; Netanyahu ...
Despite a fragile ceasefire in place, United States President Donald Trump has reportedly weighed in on a return to all-out war with Iran over the past few days. Trump has held several conversations regarding what officials have referred to as “finishing the job” in Iran with defense secretary Pete Hegseth and chairman of the joint chiefs of staff Gen. Dan Caine on more strikes.
According to a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report, while Pentagon briefings on a president's military options are not uncommon amid conflict or tensions, given that Trump is routinely holding formal and impromptu meetings on Iran, the latest discussions indicate that he has been looking for ways to break the deadlock with Iran, and has not ruled out return to strikes.
However, the same report said that Trump is not considering a return to war and believes that renewed strikes could hurt US's chances of crushing Iran's nuclear dreams.
In another development, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently warned that the military would “enter” Iran a “third time if necessary”. “We entered Iran twice to save ourselves from the destr…

US President Donald Trump’s claim that Iran has agreed never to develop a nuclear weapon has placed a still-unclear US-Iran memorandum at the centre of a high-stakes diplomatic test. Washington and Tehran have both acknowledged a preliminary ceasefire understanding, but the two sides are not yet describing it as a final peace deal.
The US President said on Truth Social that Iran had “agreed to never have a Nuclear Weapon” and rejected reports that Washington was paying Tehran as part of the process. His post came as officials on both sides sought to frame the memorandum as progress, while leaving major questions unanswered on sanctions, inspections, uranium stockpiles and post-war reconstruction.

Donald Trumphas hit back at critics who said he had not been tough enough withIranafter signing a peace deal aimed at ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
The US President took to his Truth Social platform this morning after several US lawmakers and politicians warned that the US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding does not curb Iran's nuclear ambitions and leaves Tehran with a strategic advantage over the Strait of Hormuz.
'These fools, who think I haven’t been tough enough on Iran, when theStock MarketJust Hit A RECORD HIGH, and Oil prices are “tumbling” down, are either jealous, bad people, or stupid. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!! President DJT,' the American leader wrote.
The agreement, which took 'immediate effect' last night, also includes a plan for Iran's 'reconstruction' and the US terminating 'all types of sanctions' on Tehran.
However, the issue of Iran's nuclear programme - the main reason why Trump began his military campaign in February - remains under negot…

Trump threats to bomb 'cuckoo' Iran again tonight
President Donald Trump has threatened to “hit Iran hard again tonight” as he spoke to reporters on Wednesday.
The US leader has declared the ceasefire in
Iran
“over” in an extraordinary rant at the
Nato
summit, just hours after the
US
launched fresh strikes.
He said that
Tehran
were “scum” after the Iranians retaliated against US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain overnight, threatening a fragile interim peace deal agreed between both sides last month.
Speaking alongside Nato chief Mark Rutte, Trump said that Iran was led by “sick people”, adding: “I don’t want to deal with them anymore.”
US Central Command claimed to have struck more than 60 small boats of the IRGC as punishment for Iranian attacks on shipping in the
Strait of Hormuz
. Washington also revoked a license allowing Iran to sell oil.
Mr Rutte defended the strikes as “absolutely necessary” during the summit in Ankara.
Iranian media earlier reported explosions in Iran's main oil hub of Kharg Island, on Qeshm Island and in the southern port cities of Sirik and Bandar Abbas.

Trump says Iran agreed to not have nuclear weapons, but 'they can ...
The Iranian regime has agreed not to have nuclear weapons, PresidentDonald Trumphas said — but he added that Tehran could still "change their mind."
"I did have to say we have to do something about Iran, because regardless of how well we're doing [economically] we can't let them have a nuclear weapon," he said in the interview with the New York Post's "Pod Force One" podcast, which was published Wednesday. "They've already agreed they're not going to have a nuclear weapon."
When asked to confirm that the Iranian regime had agreed to that term, Trump said, "Oh yeah, they've agreed to that."
"I mean, now they can change their mind, but that was one of the things they've had to agree, they've agreed to that. That was the big thing," he said.
Iran's Foreign Ministry declined to comment on Trump's interview when contacted by CNBC. A government official, who was not authorized to speak publicly, told CNBC Trump's words were "misleading."

WSJ: Trump weighs all-out war on Iran but opts to stick with talks
Confirmation that full-scale strike options remain on the table, even if shelved for now, keeps a geopolitical risk premium embedded in oil and freight markets, particularly given the unresolved standoff over Hormuz transit fees. The more market-relevant signal is Trump's tolerance for the August 18 deadline slipping, which suggests Washington is prioritising a durable deal over a hard deadline, reducing the odds of a near-term escalation trigger tied to that date specifically. One-off retaliatory strikes for MOU violations remain Trump's preferred tool in the interim, meaning periodic volatility around Hormuz traffic and shipping risk premia is likely to persist even without a return to full-scale war. The standoff over Iran's proposed transit fees is the more durable point of friction to watch, since it speaks directly to the cost structure of Gulf shipping rather than just headline risk.

PresidentDonald Trumpon Tuesday warned the U.K. and France that the U.S. "won't be there to help you anymore," as he vented his frustration over the close allies' refusal to join military action against Iran.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump said, "the Country of France wouldn't let planes headed to Israel, loaded up with military supplies, fly over French territory."
"France has been VERY UNHELPFUL with respect to the 'Butcher of Iran,' who has been successfully eliminated! The U.S.A. will REMEMBER!!!," he said in one post.
In another post, the president singled out the U.K. for criticism while urging other countries to take action in the Strait of Hormuz, the vital oil route that Iran has effectively blocked during the war.
"All of those countries that can't get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you," Trump wrote.

President Donald Trump expressed uncertainty Wednesday about whether his much-touted US-Iran agreement will be signed Friday, cautioning, “You never know with deals.” Still, he said he expects the “very strong” accord will be signed in Switzerland.
What to know:
Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday night suggested that Presidents Donald Trump and Masoud Pezeshkian could sign the deal with the United States.
Such a signing ceremony would represent a major step for the two countries, which saw diplomatic relations break off in 1980 over the U.S. Embassy hostage crisis in Tehran.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, quoted by Iranian state television, made the comment.
Pezeshkian became president on a promise of seeking better relations with the West. However, he’s been sidelined for months after Iran’s mass killing of protesters in January and in the war as hard-liners broadly have taken over the levers of the country’s theocracy.
Senior U.S. officials have dictated the memorandum of understanding with Iran to journalists after days of secrecy.

Trump 2.0 and Iran's Nuclear Question in the New Middle East

In a significant development last week, President Trump confirmed his outreach to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, proposing negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program, as his preferred option over military action. This outreach happens at the time that Iran continues to accelerate its uranium enrichment, now nearing weapons-grade levels, according to the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog.
More importantly, Iran’s Supreme Leader has publicly dismissed the possibility of direct talks despite such diplomatic gesture from Washington. This rejection is likely the impetus behind Trump’s request for Putin’s assistance in facilitating engagement and discussions with Iran on its nuclear issue and network of regional proxies.
To deconstruct the latest developments and navigate the potential scenarios ahead, this edition of theStrategic Foresight Brief(SFB), titled ‘Trump 2.0 & Iran’s Nuclear Question in the New Middle East‘, synthesizes insights from our recent high-level closed-door briefing on the very same topic. United States President Donald Trump on Thursday stated that he would take “full credit” if negotiations with Iran succeed but would hold Vice President JD Vance responsible if the deal fails. Trump made the remarks during the Easter lunch event at the White House and comes amid ongoing talks with Iran for securing a ceasefire in the conflict that has entered its fifth week.
Who Will Trump Blame For The Failure?
In a video from the event that has surfaced online, Trump is seen asking Vance, who is a key negotiator in potential talks with Iran about the ongoing progress. He then remarked that if the deal is successful, he will take credit for it, and if not, Vance would be blamed for the failure. “If the Iran deal doesn’t happen, I’m blaming JD Vance. If it does happen, I’m taking full credit," Trump said.

After a decade of
trashing American allies as freeloaders
, President Trump is begging for their help in opening the Strait of Hormuz, the waterway adjacent to Iran sometimes referred to as the “jugular” of the world economy.
Those allies aren’t exactly jumping at the chance to join Trump’s war on Iran—
not a single one has taken
the offer. That leaves the president trapped in a needless war of choice that he started and is unable to finish. Iran’s leverage over the global economy is increasing as oil prices rise and the strait remains closed to the U.S. and its allies.
Now, basically anyone could have told Trump that spending the past few years antagonizing allies with aggressive tariffs, belligerent arm-twisting, and imperial dismissiveness would hurt him when the time came to ask those same allies for help. But this isn’t a simple strategic miscalculation or even a typical Trumpian incompetence—it’s the result of a particular ideological fantasy of American independence from foreign…

President Donald Trump on Sunday slammed backlash that came after he said a peace deal with Iran was in its final stages, which led to Republicans attacking each other on social media—at times with profanity-laden name-calling—as the anti-war wing of the party lauded a potential end to the war while others suggested a deal maintaining the Iranian regime would be a failure for the U.S.

Why Trump's blunt talk makes it harder to know how a deal with Iran could go

Trump says 'no limits' to his power, but his Iran deal opens $300 ...
US President Donald Trump has dismissed the idea that the war with Iran exposed any limits to his power, tellingAxiosthat he still believes there are "no limits" to what he can do as president. The remark followed his decision to settle for a far narrower deal with Tehran than the one he originally demanded, and comes as Trump is separately reported to be testing comparisons with history's most dominant rulers.
Trump entered the conflict insisting on Iran's unconditional surrender and ended it instead with a memorandum of understanding, according to Axios. He toldAxioscorrespondent Marc Caputo on "The Axios Show" that he had agreed to the narrower deal specifically to stop the war tipping into a global economic depression, while continuing to insist the outcome amounted to total victory.
Quick answers to key questions
Trump's Iran deal includes 14 provisions, such as requiring Iran to allow free passage through the Strait of Hormuz, the US to end its naval blockade, and Tehran gaining access to at least $300 billion in financing.

SWITZERLAND engaged diplomatically UNITED STATES in Geneva, Genè, Switzerland
ANI16 Jun 2026, 06:28 GMT+

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING: President Trump's Display of Peace Through ...
President Donald J. Trump’s bold, decisive action against Iran — the world’sleadingstate sponsor of terrorism — and its key nuclear facilities was met with bipartisan praise from lawmakers across Capitol Hill.
Here’s what they’re saying:
Speaker Mike Johnson: “The President made the right call, and did what he needed to do. Leaders in Congress were aware of the urgency of this situation and the Commander-in-Chief evaluated that the imminent danger outweighed the time it would take for Congress to act. The world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, which chants ‘Death to America,’ simply could not be allowed the opportunity to obtain and use nuclear weapons. The President fully respects the Article I power of Congress, and tonight’s necessary, limited, and targeted strike follows the history and tradition of similar military actions under presidents of both parties.”
Senate Majority Leader John Thune: “The regime in Iran, which has committed itself to bringing ‘death to America’ and wiping Israel off the map, has rejected all diplomatic pathways to peace. The mullahs’ misguided pursuit of nuclear weapons must …

Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has said that Tehran will not accept negotiations with Washington under the shadow of threats.
In a post on his X handle early on Tuesday, Qalibaf denounced US President Donald Trump for acting on a delusion.
His remarks came in response to continued US ceasefire violations of the ceasefire deal reached two weeks ago, including a naval blockade and an attack on an Iranian merchant vessel in the Sea of Oman on Sunday.
"Trump, by imposing a blockade and violating the ceasefire, wants – in his own delusion – to turn the negotiating table into a table of surrender or to justify renewed warmongering," the top lawmaker and lead negotiator said.
Qalibaf made it clear that pressure tactics will not yield results at the negotiating table.
"We do not accept negotiations under the shadow of threats," he said. "Over the past two weeks, we have prepared ourselves to reveal new cards on the battlefield."
The remarks came as the next round of talks between Tehran and Washington were shrouded in…

What's behind Trump's 'US will finish the job' warning to Iran amid ...
US President Donald Trump on Monday warned Iran that either they reach a deal with Washington or the United States will “finish the job,” renewing this threat of military action against Tehran as the Islamic Republic remains defiant following the dayslong funeral of its slain Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
US-Iran indirect talks concluded last week without any feasible outcome and a public sign of advancement toward a lasting peace, despite a 60-day ceasefire deal agreed between the two countries in order to create room for diplomacy following US-Israel’s joint strikes against Iran in February that sparked the tension in West Asia.
The 60-day ceasefire, signed between the US and Iran, was intended by Washington to resuscitate diplomacy and restrict Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon and surrender the highly enriched Uranium.
Addressing reporters at the Oval Office, Trump said, “We’re either going to make a deal, or we’re going to finish the job. OK. And it won’t be tough to finish the job. I’d rather make a deal, because I don’t want to affect 91 million people,”Reutersreported.

JD Vancesaid the United States holds all the cards to Iran's future and thatDonald Trumpwill go back to bombing Tehran should they betray their impending deal with Washington.
The President announced on Sunday that the US andIranhad reached an agreement that would end the Iran war and promised to 'Let the oil flow!'
However, Vance told Sean Hannity on Monday night that both the US and its Middle Eastern allies remain deeply skeptical of Tehran.
He then delivered an ultimatum that if Iran 'don't do what they promise they're going to do,' Trump will resume strikes.
'I've known President Trump for a long time. I would say that means go back and resume bombing. It could. It could be, and he would. I don't think he would hesitate,' he said.
Vanceadded that Trump could also reinstitute the US' own blockade on the Strait of Hormuz.
The Vice President said this deal is going to be an attempt to 'see how serious the Iranians are' but that both Washington and their Middle Eastern allies are …

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — U.S. President Donald Trump said late Tuesday he’s pulling back on his threats to attack Iranian bridges, power plants and other civilian targets, subject to Iran agreeing to a two-week ceasefire and reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. What can be said about Trump’s war with Iran that isn’t already abundantly obvious? The answer: not much. It is not going well, and it probably won’t end well.
