Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, visited victims of the Eda Oniyo-Ekiti abduction at theEkiti State University Teaching Hospital(EKSUTH) in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, where they are currently receiving medical treatment following their release.
The victims, abducted in April while attending an open-air crusade organised by the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), were rescued around midnight on Friday after 67 days in captivity. Following their rescue, they were transported to EKSUTH for urgent medical attention. Sadly, one of the 15 victims died whilst in captivity; the remaining survivors are reported to be in critical physical and emotional condition.
The Governor’s visit occurred less than 24 hours after the victims were admitted under his directive. Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Human Services, Olusola Gbenga-Igotun, and Professor Oladele Olatunya, Acting Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, Mr Oyebanji condemned the incident. Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti state has directed the management of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, to provide comprehensive medical screening and treatment for the Eda Oniyo kidnap victims.
The governor, according to a statement in Ado Ekiti by the special adviser to the governor on Media, Yinka Oyebode, on Saturday, also instructed the State Ministry of Health and Human Services to take full responsibility for overseeing the welfare and wellbeing of the victims, with the State Government covering all medical expenses incurred during their treatment.
The victims regained freedom from their captors in the early hours of Saturday.
They were kidnapped at Eda Oniyo in the Ilejemeje Local Government area of Ekiti State on April 28, 2026, during a programme at Christ Apostolic Church in the community.
The kidnappers had, during the attack, shot dead a pastor in the church in April, while one of the kidnapped persons also died in captivity.

Following the release of the Eda Oniyo kidnap victims, the Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has directed the management of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, to provide comprehensive medical screening and treatment for the victims.

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji on Sunday visited the victims of the Eda Oniyo kidnapping at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, where they are receiving medical attention following their release from captivity after about 66 days.
The victims, comprising women and children, regained their freedom in the early hours of Saturday after they were abducted during a programme at a Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo on April 28.
During the attack on the church, a pastor was killed, while 16 worshippers were marched into the bush by the kidnappers. One of the victims died in captivity, while the remaining 15 regained their freedom on Saturday.
