President Bola Tinubu vowed on Saturday that the Federal Government will never give in to terrorists’ demands after retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar died while in the custody of gunmen in Katsina State.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President expressed “shock” at General Abubakar’s death and extended condolences to the officer’s family, the Katsina State Government and the Armed Forces.
The statement also confirmed that the general’s wife remains in the custody of the captors.

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday commended the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for neutralising notorious bandit kingpin Ibrahim Bastuji in Kogi State and rescuing the widow of the late former Chief of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar (retd), from captivity in Katsina State.
The President described the twin operations as major victories in the ongoing fight against banditry, kidnapping and violent crimes across the country, saying they underscored the growing effectiveness of security forces in dismantling criminal networks.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said the elimination of Bastuji dealt a significant blow to criminal elements that had terrorised communities in Kogi State and neighbouring areas through kidnapping, attacks on civilians and other violent crimes.
