Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, on Saturday issued an ultimatum to Fulani community leaders in Igboho town, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State, to facilitate the release of residents reportedly abducted by kidnappers.
A video that went viral on social media earlier on Saturday showed Igboho issuing a two-hour ultimatum for the release of the abductees during a meeting with Fulani leaders and security officials at the palace of the Alepata of Igboholand, Oba Joel Olawuwo.
This was as the Oyo State Police Command said it had begun investigations into the threat.
The activist, who spoke in Yoruba, warned that failure to secure the victims’ release within the stipulated period could lead to unrest.
He accused some members of the Fulani community of being behind a series of kidnappings in the area, including the abduction of a pregnant woman, her sister and a child, a f…

Abduction Crisis: Falana Urges Focus on Rescue, Not Politics
Abduction
and Security have moved to the center of national discussion after human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) cautioned politicians and stakeholders against exploiting the recent kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Oyo State for political advantage. His intervention comes at a time of growing public anxiety, with families awaiting the safe return of victims and many Nigerians questioning whether the country’s security challenges are expanding faster than solutions are being implemented. While political debates continue, Falana argues that the nation cannot afford distractions when lives remain at risk.
Falana Challenges Leaders: Rescue Victims Before Trading Accusations
Falana’s position is straightforward: the rescue of abducted pupils and teachers must take precedence over partisan disputes. According to the senior advocate, the abduction should not become an opportunity for political actors to exchange blame while victims remain in captivity. Instead, he called for coordinated action among security agencies, government institutions, and community stakeholders to ensure the safe return of those affected.

Falana made the remarks on Friday when he appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s

Reacting to comments by some political figures over the incident, Falana criticised attempts to attribute the abduction to political opponents without providing evidence.
He said a minister and a former governor “are currently inciting people in Oyo State by politicising the tragedy of our people.
“How can anybody in their right sense say, ‘I know it was a state government that kidnapped the children’? Please, if you know this, go to the police, go to the State Security Service and lodge a complaint,” he said.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Tuesday declared that he would be willing to sacrifice himself if necessary to ensure the safe return of abducted schoolchildren, their teacher and principal from Oriire Local Government Area, insisting that Oyo State would never experience a tragedy similar to the 2014 Chibok schoolgirls’ abduction.
The governor made the remarks while addressing protesters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, amid growing concerns over the fate of the abducted pupils and school officials.
Makinde disclosed that a lieutenant of the Nigerian Army was killed two days earlier during ongoing efforts to secure the release of the victims, underscoring the risks being faced by security personnel involved in the operation.
Addressing the crowd, the governor stressed that the state government was doing everything within its power to ensure the safe rescue of the children and school staff while avoiding further loss of lives.
According to him, Oyo State would not allow the situation to deteriorate into a national tragedy similar to the Chibok abduction.

A video that surfaced across social platforms on 29 May, 2026 has reopened a painful conversation about school safety in parts of Oyo State, pulling attention back to a crisis many thought was already being contained. What began as a disturbing clip showing a school principal or teacher speaking from captivity has now expanded into a wider national discussion involving government response, security operations, and a controversial ultimatum issued by social commentator Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan. The footage does not just circulate as another viral clip, it carries the weight of fear, uncertainty, and unanswered questions that continue to surround the abduction of school staff and students in rural communities.
The emotional tone of the video, combined with the ongoing tension around rescue efforts, has turned it into more than just a report of an incident. It has become a symbol of frustration over insecurity and the fragile condition of educational spaces in affected areas. As reac…

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has appealed to families and residents not to stage protests over the recent abduction of schoolchildren in the state, warning that such actions could worsen the situation and embolden the kidnappers.
Speaking on the incident, Makinde said the state was facing a harsh security reality, stressing that terrorists and bandits were already operating dangeously close to communities.
“I told the people our reality. Our reality is that the bandits, the trrrorists, are here within our doorstep,” the governor said.

He urged relatives of the abductd children to remain calm and prayerful, insisting that public protests would only “fuel the ego” of the kidnappers.
“This is not the time for protest. The terroists and the bandits are not normal people. If they had a reasonable head, they won’t be in the bush doing what they are doing. So if we’re protesting, we’re fueling their ego,” he stated.

IN a one minute video released yesterday by their abductors, the abducted Oyo teachers and pupils yesterday made a passionate appeal to the authorities to give whatever the kidnappers demanded to secure their freedom.

They were among the 46 persons kidnapped when the terrorists attacked Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo state on May 15, 2026, abducting 39 pupils and students and seven teachers.
The first female teacher who spoke in Yoruba said: “The authorities, we beg you in the name God, please have mercy on us.
