Australia's Alex De Minaur said he is ready to fulfil his Olympic dream after shaking off a hip injury that cut short his Wimbledon campaign and threatened his participation at the Paris Games.
The world number six pulled out of his Wimbledon quarter-final against Novak Djokovic earlier this month after sustaining a cartilage tear in his hip in the closing stages of his fourth-round win over Arthur Fils.
De Minaur was unable to play at the Tokyo Games three years ago after contracting COVID and the hip injury sparked fears he might miss another Olympics but the Sydneysider said on social media on Monday he was ready to compete again.

LONDON --After all the records Novak Djokovic has broken, the latest one left him rather unimpressed — even though he surpassed his great rival Roger Federer.
Djokovic set a men's record for most match wins atWimbledonafter overcoming a surprisingly tough challenge from 132nd-ranked qualifier Roman Safiullin on Sunday to reach the quarterfinals.
The seven-time Wimbledon champion screamed out his frustrations at times — later referring to the outbursts as “meltdowns” — before winning 7-6 (6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 for his 106th match victory at the All England Club. That puts him one ahead of Federer atop the all-time list for men, although he still trails Martina Navratilova’s 120 match wins.
That's clearly not the record he's after at Wimbledon, though. Not when he's also trying to match Federer's eight titles and become the first man or woman to win 25 major trophies.
“Not on my priority list,” Djokovic said. “Didn’t even know about it until after the last match…

Novak Djokovic of Serbia celebrates winning against Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada in their quarterfinal men's singles match at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in London on Tuesday.
LONDON (AP) — Side to side. Corner to corner. Novak Djokovic kept pushing Felix Auger-Aliassime back and forth along the Centre Court baseline at Wimbledon to retrieve one shot after another.
Finally, on the 22nd shot of a grueling rally deep in a fifth-set super tiebreaker, Auger-Aliassime had a forehand in the middle of the court. Under normal circumstances it might have been just the shot he was looking for.
Not this time. Not after five hours of battling with the 39-year-old Djokovic.
Auger-Aliassime, a 25-year-old Canadian with one of the top-rated forehands on tour, had nothing left in his tank. He sprayed his forehand wide to give Djokovic a 9-4 lead. Then both players bent over in exhaustion and leaned on their rackets. Djokovic, while he was bent over, still found energy to encourage the crowd to cheer louder, waving his right arm for more noise.
One point later, the longe…

Novak Djokovic saw Arthur Rinderknech falling toward the Centre Court net after a volley and said to himself “please stay down.”
The Frenchman did – and 39-year-old Djokovic dove to hit a backhand volley winner on match point for a 7-5, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (4) record-equaling victory in the third round at Wimbledon on Friday.
Djokovic’s 105th match win at the All England Club ties Roger Federer on the men’s list for most singles match victories. Martina Navratilova won 120 singles matches at Wimbledon.
By next weekend, Djokovic would love to equal Federer’s men’s record of eight singles titles, but this one will have to suffice for Friday.

An injured Carlos Alcaraz of Spain watches his bother Jaime Alcaraz of Spain while he plays Poi Mas Tabuena of Spain in the Mutua Madrid
World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has not yet been cleared to return from his wrist injury, which will force him to miss the upcoming Wimbledon. However, the Spaniard is seemingly inching closer to his return.
Last week, the seven-time major winner shared an encouraging injury update on Instagram that included a video of him hitting some balls while training at his academy and also sprinting on a race track. Notably, Alcaraz could be seen using his right wrist while hitting balls, which many perceived to be a positive sign in his return.
The update came shortly after Alcaraz was seen supporting his younger brother, Jaime Alcaraz, at the 2026 ATP Junior Tour Madrid Open at the Caja Magica in Madrid. Although he had a…

Iga Swiatek was emotional after scrapping to a first-round win over Taylor Townsend
London (AFP) - Iga Swiatek will be hoping to put a stuttering start to her Wimbledon title defence behind her on Thursday, as Alexander Zverev bids to prove his credentials on grass.
Reigning champion Swiatek struggled to hold back the tears after battling past Taylor Townsend in the first round on Centre Court after an alarming drop-off in her form during the second set.
The Pole, who has been inconsistent since winning her sixth Grand Slam title at the All England Club 12 months ago, did enough to get through but said the enormity of starting her title defence had affected her.
“I think the whole process of opening the court and playing as a defending champion is for sure really emotional,” said Swiatek.
“Last year probably the most amazing thing in my tennis career happened here. So I felt it also today.”
Swiatek will have to be sharper than she was against Townsend when she faces former world number one and 2021 Wimbledon runner-up Karolina Pliskova.
The Czech returned to the court earlier this year havi…

Dashing Djokovic matches Federer with 105th Wimbledon match win

WIMBLEDON, England - These days, Novak Djokovic makes history just about every time he wins another match. On Monday, the top-ranked Serb did just that at Wimbledon.
Djokovic, a six-time champion at the All England Club, beat Kwon Soon-woo 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Centre Court, his 80th victory at the grass-court major. With it, he became the first man or woman to win that many matches at each of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments.
“It’s always very unique match to play as the defending champion, first on the grass,” said Djokovic, who won his 22nd straight match at the tournament. “Other than this year that Wimbledon made a change so you could practice before the tournament starts, it was always coming out on the untouched grass. It’s really a unique and special feeling in our sport.”

Ukraine's top-ranked player, Marta Kostyuk, continued her impressive run at Wimbledon 2026 by defeating American Emma Navarro in a grueling third-round (Round of 32) match. The 24-year-old from Kyiv battled through three sets to reach the second week of the prestigious Grand Slam for the first time in her career.
Breaking the "Navarro curse": How the match unfolded
Before this match, Kostyuk (World No. 13) had faced Navarro (World No. 26) four times - and lost every meeting.
That made the third-round clash significant not only for the tournament but also on a personal level. Navarro, who had already eliminated another Ukrainian, Yuliia Starodubtseva, earlier in the tournament, entered the match with a perfect head-to-head record against Kostyuk.
But this time, the Ukrainian came determined to rewrite the script. The match lasted 1 hour and 44 minutes, with Kostyuk claiming a…

Few were looking at Miomir Kecmanovic, the world No50 from Serbia.
But he more than matched the red-headed and red FOOTED Italian.
In the third set Sinner slipped on the grass and shortly after blood was oozing from his pristine white trainers.
After being wrong-footed by his opponent, Sinner slipped behind the baseline – his leg twisting horribly. The 24-year-old’s right foot also momentarily appeared to jar in the lush

July 6 (Reuters) - Wimbledon moves into its quarter-finals on Tuesday, with 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic taking on third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, while Naomi Osaka, fresh off a win over world number one Aryna Sabalenka, faces Karolina Muchova.

Djokovic's scrappy win over Roman Safiullin in the round of 16 got him the record for the most Wimbledon wins with 106 victories at the All England Club. But the 39-year-old still has major hurdles to cross before he can achieve his dream of a record 25th Grand Slam.
The 39-year-old has been dragged into four-set battles in the last two matches, and his 3-1/2 hour contest with qualifier Safiullin left Djokovic knowing he had won ugly.
"I enjoy the battle. I enjoy the suffering in a sense, to some extent, even though I don't want it, I don't invite it," Djokovic said after his…

Serbian seventh seed Novak Djokovic rolled back the years on Wednesday evening, producing a commanding performance to beat Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 and reach the third round of Wimbledon in an hour and 38 minutes.
The framing was not his own. It was the on-court interviewer who reached for the word “vintage,” telling Djokovic the crowd had just witnessed a display worthy of his best years – and Djokovic, amused, embraced it. “I like the terminology,” he said. “It’s nice – it brings back the best days.”
It was the kind of display that once decided the biggest matches between the pair, and against an opponent he has met in Grand Slam finals, Djokovic looked close…

Simply timeless. At 39, Novak Djokovic continues to rewrite tennis history. The Serbian star advanced to the Wimbledon semifinals after a marathon match lasting over five hours against Felix Auger-Aliassime. Now he’ll face Jannik Sinner in a matchup that promises to be a spectacle.
At the press conference, there was also an interesting comparison to Lionel Messi, another champion capable of captivating the sports world at age 39. Djokovic smiled at the comparison: “It would be nice to play 90 minutes like him,” before immediately turning his attention to his next match: “Now I have an extra day of rest, and that’s a good thing.”
The Serbian then analyzed his victory over Auger-Aliassime: “It’s exciting to be part of such an epic match that lasted more than five hours. Honestly, it was one of the best matches I’ve ever played at Wimbledon. I don’t remember playing another one this long here. Maybe the final against Roger in 2019 comes close in terms of duration. It was an extremely even match. Anyone could have won. Félix played at an extreme…
