Officials said police on patrol responded to what authorities said was a fight in front of the Chipotle restaurant around 9:15 p.m. Pepper spray was deployed in an effort to break up the fight and clear the crowd. Four officers were treated for exposure to the spray. Escalating violence including assaults on police officers led police to clear Market Square. Officials said the crowd dissipated from Market Square around 12:15 a.m., but other juveniles congregated at Triangle Square andat the Forbes and Wood Street bus stop, where Port Authority Police continued to break up fights. Police said three guns were confiscated during the altercations. Five adults were arrested on charges that included aggravated assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and firearms and drug offenses. Pittsburgh Police disperse 400 disorderly juveniles in East ... - WPXI PITTSBURGH — Police dispersed an enormous crowd of teens in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood Wednesday, officials say. According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, officers were called to Liberty Green Park at 7:50 p.m. for an estimated 400 juveniles fighting and being disorderly. A supervisor saw the crowd and called for backup from officers across the city. Police reportedly ordered the crowd to disperse three times over a PA system, without success. A nearby Target store was placed on lockdown to keep the group from entering. At 8:29 p.m., officials say, police were permitted to use pepper spray. Three officers used it, and the juveniles began to flee. Only 25 kids remained on the Port Authority busway by 10:15 p.m. Officials said no one was arrested. They move in groups, laugh loudly, argue, film videos, and linger for long stretches of time — kid stuff. According to Pittsburgh Public Safety , the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, when around 40 people were gathered in the area of Market Square and Forbes Avenue, when a fight broke out. Some of them started using pepper spray on each other, officials said. "They need to do something," said Joe McGinnis, who lives nearby in Downtown. "They're hanging out here in the park, they're hanging out in what's going to be the beautiful Market Square with nothing to do."
