Five adults were arrested on charges that included aggravated assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, firearms offenses and drug offenses, while four juveniles – two males and two females – received citations for disorderly conduct. The incidents unfolded after a large fight broke out in Pittsburgh’s Market Square on Friday night.

Police reported that the fight involved approximately 40 to 50 juveniles, though other accounts described hundreds of juveniles taking over the square after the city’s Juneteenth celebration. Pepper spray was deployed to break up the fight and clear the crowd, and four officers required treatment for exposure. Officers also confiscated three guns during the altercations and cleared the square because of escalating violence and assaults on officers.

According to triblive.com, police on patrol responded to a fight in front of the Chipotle restaurant around 9:15 p.m., and no chaperone policy was in effect at the time of the incidents. WTAE reported that law‑enforcement officers remained on the scene for nearly three hours after large crowds and multiple altercations were reported. WPXI noted that hundreds of juveniles took over Market Square after the Juneteenth celebration and that by the end of the night nine people had been charged.
