A toddler disappeared on June 6 and police registered a ‘girl missing’ case, according to the Hindu. More than 200 police personnel were deployed, as reported by the Indian Express, including a 10‑member special police team previously involved in anti‑Maoist combing operations. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were sent to conduct search operations in forests, the Hindu added. Police canines and drones were also deployed, the Indian Express said, and an anti‑Maoist combing platoon was mobilised, according to the same source.

Accounts differ on where the disappearance occurred. The Hindu reported that it happened in a garden in Ch. Agraharam, Tuni mandal, Kakinada district. By contrast, the Indian Express described the location as a sprawling palm‑oil plantation in Andhra Pradesh.

A stray dog that was with the girl returned three days after the disappearance, the Indian Express reported. The dog appears distressed, has not eaten since returning and is behaving abnormally and aggressive. Police fitted a GPS tracker on the dog on Friday; the dog initially walked in the direction the girl and dog had taken earlier, then its behavior changed, the outlet added. Police could not obtain any clues from the GPS tracker.
