A teenage hiker was injured by a black bear during an encounter on the Mount Si trail in the Mount Si Natural Resources Conservation Area on Tuesday. The bear involved was a mother black bear with cubs. The group of hikers included basketball players from Thomas Jefferson High School. The injured teenager was transported to a hospital with non-critical injuries. Another hiker was injured after falling and twisting an ankle while fleeing the bear encounter, according to gdelt. The bear encounter occurred approximately 2.7 miles up the main Mount Si trail, according to the guardian. Hikers heard loud screaming during the bear encounter. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the King County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident. The Mount Si trail was closed following the encounter.
