Bengaluru Floods Brings City Karnataka To Standstill 3 Dead, 500 Homes ...
Bengaluru and parts of Karnataka has come to a standstill after persistent rainfall has resulted in three deaths and damge to over 500 homes in 'India's silicon valley'. Against this backdrop, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Bengaluru under an orange alert, forecasting intense rainfall that could significantly impact the city’s infrastructure. Simultaneously, a yellow alert has been sounded for several districts across Karnataka, including Belgaum, Kolar, Dharwad, and Bangalore Rural, with rain intensity expected to be high throughout Tuesday.
The orange alert, which denotes rainfall between 11 cm and 20 cm, was prompted by forecasts suggesting Bengaluru could receive up to 10 cm of rain. According to IMD Bengaluru Centre Director N Puviarasu, while such rainfall might be manageable in rural regions, urban areas like Bengaluru face heightened risks due to limited drainage and widespread concretization.
"The amount of rainfall we are receiving is nothing for rural areas. But because cities like Bengaluru are concretised mostly, and thus blocking the outlets for water drainage, we have …

The threat to the region stems mainly from overflowing river water and rainwater that fails to drain away. Meanwhile, residents maintain that filling canals for the six-lane road construction project, coupled with reclamation of paddy fields in the vicinity, has only intensified their concerns.
People in the area are also worried that the large pipes installed beneath Karma Road along the Bharathapuzha riverbank to drain rainwater from the Easwaramangalam region could become a major hazard. When the river water level rises, water flows back through these pipes and inundates the locality.
Locals have been demanding a permanent solution to the issue for years, but no effective remedy has yet been found. Residents had suggested installing a shutter mechanism for the pipes, but the authorities rejected the proposal, terming it impractical…

Heavy rain triggers waterlogging chaos at Thokkottu Junction
Officials said improper planning during the construction of the national highway prevented rainwater from flowing into stormwater drains as intended. Instead, excess water spilled onto the main road, causing traffic snarls and hazardous conditions.
The problem was aggravated by the lack of routine desilting at the junction, which has allowed silt and debris to accumulate and block drainage pathways.
Even though authorities spent nearly ₹14 crore to build a four-lane stretch from Thokkottu Junction to Chembugudde, the area still suffers from flooding due to inadequate development and poor maintenance.
Residents and commuters have urged officials to address these persistent issues to prevent similar incidents during future rains.

A depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal has intensified monsoon activity across West Bengal, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue heavy rainfall and thunderstorm warnings for large parts of the state over the next two days. While coastal and western districts of South Bengal are expected to receive the heaviest rain on Sunday and Monday, rainfall activity is likely to intensify across North Bengal from Monday onward.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC),Kolkata, the depression was centred over the northwest Bay of Bengal near the Odisha–West Bengal coast on Sunday morning, around 50 km south-southeast of Balasore and about 60 km south-southwest of Digha.
The system is expected to move west-northwestwards and cross the north Odisha coast between Chandbali and Digha within the next 24 hours before weakening over land. Under its influence, widespread rainfall and thunderstorm activity are expected to continue across the state through the week.
For Kolkata, the IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thunders…

Moonniyur (Malappuram): Heavy rains in the region have exposed serious flaws in the drainage system of the newly constructed six-lane National Highway 66, particularly near Velimukku and Chelari. Excess water from the highway is gushing onto service roads and adjacent residential areas, causing widespread disruption and safety hazards.
Locals report that during heavy downpours, large volumes of water cascade through small openings on either side of the highway, pouring directly onto the service roads. While some locations have PVC pipes installed beneath the retaining walls to channel the flow, many areas—especially underpasses—lack any such provision. As a result, water from elevated sections of the highway crashes down onto t…

Heavy rain lashes Hyderabad, IMD says monsoon yet to arrive
Heavy pre-monsoon showers lashed Hyderabad on Tuesday, causing severe traffic congestion and waterlogging across several areas. While temperatures dropped significantly, IMD Hyderabad clarified that the southwest monsoon has not yet reached the city despite advancing into parts of Telangana.
Hyderabad:Hyderabad on Tuesday was drenched by heavy showers, bringing down night temperatures significantly. The downpour brought life to a grinding halt, triggering severe traffic gridlock during the peak evening rush hour.
Commuters along major arterial roads and key junctions, especially in the IT corridor, Khairatabad and parts of Secunderabad such as Musheerabad and Marredpally, faced long delays in reaching home. Rapid inundation of low-lying areas under sheets of rainwater also caused open drains to overflow at several locations.
While the substantial downpour brought much-needed relief,IMD Hyderabadmaintained that Tuesday’s rain consisted of pre-monsoon showers and that the southwest monsoon is still a few days away from making a formal entry into the State capital.
Officials said that while the southwest monsoon crossed …

Hyderabad:
Incessant rains have led to a sharp increase in the inflow of water into major reservoirs in Hyderabad. In view of the heavy flow of water into Himayat Sagar, the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) today raised eight crest gates by three feet and released water towards low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, the water level in Osman Sagar (Gandipet) is also rising rapidly, with the reservoir close to full capacity. Irrigation department officials said that if the rains continue, the gates of Osman Sagar could also be opened at any time.
Officials have advised residents of low-lying areas to remain alert and take precautionary measures. According to the Meteorological Department, more rains are likely in the coming days, in view of which the concerned departments are taking emergency measures to prevent any loss of life or property.

“The structure was built as a makeshift arrangement after the collapse of the Dudhia iron bridge in October 2025, but the swollen river damaged it as well and exposed the fragile nature of the temporary arrangement. The damage disrupted traffic on the Mirik–Si…

Embankment damage exposes Bhadrachalam to potential Godavari floods - Telangana Today
A key embankment protecting Bhadrachalam from Godavari floods has partially collapsed, triggering panic among residents. BRS and CPI(M) leaders blamed the government for delay in permanent repairs, as monsoon rains intensify threat in Kotha Colony and nearby areas
Kothagudem:The embankment built to shieldBhadrachalamtown from the Godavari’s fury has suffered significant damage in several stretches, raising serious concerns over the safety of residents as the monsoon intensifies.
A 50-metre stretch of the protection wall, from the bridge centre to the upper part of Kotha Colony, collapsed following the recent rains. In addition, holes have appeared in several areas along the three-kilometre-long embankment, while wild vegetation, including trees and bushes, has further weakened its structure. Locals fear the embankment will be unable to withstand Godavari floods if the water level reaches 72 feet. Notably, a three-foot protective wall was added atop the 80-foot-high embankment a few years ago to strengthen flood defences.
