This year, Arizona will ferry a replica of the Liberty Bell through its 15 counties; New Jersey will host a slate of history-themed 5K races; Kentucky will plant a tulip-poplar tree in each of its 120 counties, and Colorado will dazzle nearly 150 of its communities with drone shows.

The United States will mark the Semiquincentennial—250 years since the adoption of the Declaration of Independence—on July 4, 2026, with a year-long series of ceremonies, cultural programs, and national celebrations.
Planning for this historic milestone, known as
America250
, involves bipartisan partnerships among federal, state, and local agencies and organizations, culminating in major events in America’s most historic cities and beyond.
Why It Matters
The Semiquincentennial will offer Americans a rare opportunity to reflect on the nation's founding values, acknowledge pivotal moments in history, and invest in cultural and educational legacies across all 50 states. The celebrations aim to foster unity, highlight contributions from diverse communities, and leave lasting civic infrastructure for future generations.

Happy Birthday, America! Did you know the United States of America is getting ready to celebrate a BIG birthday?
Next year
— in
2026
— our country will turn
250 years old!
That’s called a
Semiquincentennial.
(Whew, that’s a big word. Let’s say it slow:
semi-quin-cen-ten-nial

But guess what!?
Someone else just had a birthday too — and they’re
older
than the United States!
The United States Army turned 250 years old THIS year!
Yes, the Army is actually one year older than our country! That’s because the Army was created in 1775 — before the Declaration of Independence was even signed. People knew they would have to fight for freedom, so they got organized early!
So How Did All This Happen?
Long ago, people lived in 13 colonies that were controlled by England.
The colonists wanted to make their own rules and have their own government.
On
July 4, 1776
, the Declaration of Independence was signed, saying “Hey England, we’re doing our own thing now!”
But England wasn’t thrilled about that… so a big war (the Revolutionary War) happened.
Spoiler alert: We won!
Now every July 4th, we say, “Happy Birthday, America”, by celebrating that b…

WASHINGTON — As the U.S. approaches its 250th birthday next month, two out of five Americans do not believe it will endure another 250 years beyond that, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll that highlighted deep divisions over how the nation views itself.
The four-day poll, which concluded on Monday, comes amid the polarizing pageantry that President Donald Trump has brought to celebrations for July 4, which will mark 250 years since the people who became known as the founding fathers of the U.S. declared their independence from Britain.
Trump has put himself at the center of many of the events to mark the anniversary, including staging a
White House cage match
on his birthday on Sunday. On Monday, he said he would be the main attraction at a July 4 celebration in Washington that will also serve as a political rally for the Republican as his party looks to keep cont…

Fireworks, State Fair And Mount Rushmore: How America Is Celebrating ...
The United States is celebrating a milestone few generations witness. Two hundred and fifty years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, cities across the country are hosting events to mark America's semiquincentennial, culminating in the Fourth of July celebrations on Friday. From Washington to Philadelphia, Los Angeles to Times Square, the programme stretches far beyond the traditional Independence Day festivities. Yet it is President Donald Trump who has emerged as the central figure in many of the headline events, using the anniversary to showcase what his administration has described as a renewed celebration of American history, patriotism and national identity.
Congress has approved $150 million in federal funding for the anniversary, while Freedom 250, a public-private initiative established during Trump's presidency, has invested millions more into an expansive programme of events. Alongside the congressionally created America250 Commission, the organisation has planned ceremonies, exhibitions, concerts and large public gatherings that will continue through early July. The celebrations,…

I remember 1976 like it was yesterday.
The whole country was red, white and blue from January straight through to the Fourth of July and beyond. Tall ships sailed into New York Harbor. Fireworks exploded over every town in America. People dressed in colonial outfits and meant it without any irony whatsoever. There was a feeling in the air that summer that is genuinely hard to describe to anyone who was not there — a sense that despite everything going on in the world, we were proud of this country and happy to show it.
America 250 is coming on July 4, 2026, and I find myself hoping we can get even a little of that feeling back. Because our country could use it right now. A moment to set aside what divides us and remember what we actually share — our founding principles, our history, the core ideas that made this the country people still cross oceans to reach.
