Ramesh likens Parl. to N Korea's assembly, criticises BJP MPs' Modi ...
Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh strongly criticised the BJP-led government, comparing India’s Parliament to the Supreme People's Assembly in North Korea.
In a detailed interview with PTI, Ramesh expressed his discomfort at what he described as the “excessive and relentless” praise showered upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi by BJP MPs, suggesting that the spectacle often felt less like democratic deliberation and more like orchestrated adulation in a totalitarian regime.
“Sometimes I get the impression that I’m sitting in Parliament of North Korea,” Ramesh said, evoking images of the SPA where members rise in unison to hail their supreme leader. He elaborated, “Whatever the subject, whatever the issue, 90 per cent of the speech will be praising the prime minister. Nothing to do with the bill, nothing to do with the subject at hand. It is always Modi, Modi, Modi — table thumping, sloganeering, and chants the moment he walks in.”
Ramesh drew a historical contrast to underscore the unprecedented nature of this phenomenon. Referring to moments of national triumph in India’s past, such as the sur…

Congress targets PM over Rubio remarks on India buying USD 500bn goods ...
The Congress on Sunday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statement that India has committed to buying USD 500 billion worth of American goods over the next five years and that PM Modi was going the extra mile to appease his “good friend” US President Donald Trump.
AICC general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh sought answers from the Union government over why it showed “no courage” to renounce what he termed an “anti-people” and “dangerous” trade deal with the US, like countries such as Malaysia had done.
Ramesh also questioned why the Modi government had agreed to receive imports from the US when the PM had on record asked citizens to cut down on domestic fuel consumption and overseas travel to save foreign exchange.
He asked if this surge in imports will not further cause the Rupee to depreciate.
“On May 10, 2025, it was US Secretary of State Marco Rubio who first made the announcement of the ceasefire that brought Operation Sindoor to an unexpected halt. He had claimed that it was the intervention by President Trump that made the ceasefi…

New Delhi [India], July 6 (ANI): India on Saturday hit back at Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif over his remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi receiving Seychelles' 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon' Presidential Distinction, saying he was 'mentally unstable' and makes 'silly comments' on matters he had little knowledge of.
The sources in the government said Khawaja Asif being mentally unstable is a 'known fact'.
'That he could be entrusted with his current responsibility says much about today's Pakistan. Clearly, he has no day job and passes time by making silly comments on matters of which he has little knowledge. Envy is always a bad motivation, particularly so from someone steeped in hate speech,' government sources added.
The response came after Asif had questioned the legitimacy of the honour which was given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Seychelles.
PM Modi was conferred Seychelles' newly instituted 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon' Presidential Distinction during his visit to the island nation. The honour was bestowed in recognition of his commitment to environmental conservation and advancing the aspirations of Small Island Developing…

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused the Narendra Modi-led government on July 9 of surrendering India’s interests to China in the six years following the Galwan Valley clash. He stated that Beijing has strengthened its control over several strategic sectors of the Indian economy, despite the sacrifice of 20 Indian soldiers in 2020.
In a post on X, Kharge contended that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given China a “clean chit” after the Galwan clash. He said India’s increasing reliance on Chinese imports across industries such as pharmaceuticals, electric vehicles, solar energy, and critical minerals demonstrated a failure in the government’s economic and strategic policies.

Modi Meloni Melody toffee row: Congress attacks PM over Rome gesture ...
A day after a video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifting a packet of the popular Indian candyMelody to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during his visit to Romewent viral, the Congress on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Prime Minister, accusing him of being insensitive to the hardships faced by people in India amid rising inflation and the ongoing oil and gas crisis triggered by the Middle East conflict.
The chief Opposition party targeted PM Modi over the gesture, saying the Prime Minister appeared more focused on optics and public relations abroad while people back home were struggling with soaring prices of essential commodities and fuel.
Sharing a video on its X handle, the Congress mocked the Prime Minister with the slogan "M for Melody", saying the "M" did not stand for "Mehngai" (inflation), despite the growing burden on ordinary citizens.
"The people of the country are spending their lives in poverty. Modi is distributing 'Melody' in Italy," the Congress captioned the post.
The remarks came against the backdrop of concerns over global energy supplies following tensions in the Middl…
