On December 28, 2024, the Ural Civil Aviation Plant (UZGA) in Yekaterinburg announced the delivery of its first two UTS-800 turboprop trainer aircraft to the Russian Ministry of Defense for further testing.
The delivered aircraft, identified by their red tail numbers “06” and “07,” will be integrated into the flight testing program.
“These two serial UTS-800 aircraft will be used for flight testing. In both Soviet and modern times, the Ministry of Defense has lacked aircraft of this class in its educational institutions. Historically, cadets trained on jet-powered L-29 and L-39 models. Incorporating the UTS-800 into pilot training programs will substantially reduce training costs while maintaining high efficiency,” the spokesperson said.

The training aircraft is being developed by the Russian company UZGA (Ural Civil Aviation Plant) as part of a competition for the purchase of a new training aircraft for the Russian Air Force. The aircraft was developed mainly to replace old training aircraft. Two-seat, training aircraft with a VK-800SP turboprop engine with a power of 806 hp. (similar to the Austrian aircraft DART-450). The power plant consists of one turboprop VK-800SP with a six-bladed or four-bladed propeller of the AV-410P type from Aerosila. Engine power in takeoff mode is 806 hp.The two-seat, tandem cockpit is equipped with two K-93 ejection seats of the "0-0" mode. The aircraft has the ability to take off from concrete and unpaved runways. The prototype made its first flight in 2021 (probably in autumn) and is still in development for 2022.

The UTS-800 trainer aircraft and the Forpost-RE export reconnaissance and attack UAV will make their debut at the Egypt Defense Expo in Cairo, the press service of the Urals Civil Aviation Plant announced to TASS.
"The Urals Civil Aviation Plant, part of the Russian Engineering Union, will participate for the first time in EDEX-2025, an international defense and military industry exhibition taking place in Cairo from December 1 to 4," the statement read. "At our joint Russian pavilion, we will showcase the latest domestically produced turboprop trainer - the UTS-800. Designed specifically for pilot training, spin initiation and recovery, navigation, and emergency procedures, the UTS-800 represents a significant advancement in training technology."
The plant’s press service highlighted that the UTS-800 could be particularly appealing to the Egyptian Air Force as a modern, cost-effective, and efficient training solution. "Its key benefits include the potential to reduce training costs and its seamless compatibility with Russian aircraft, making it an ideal choice for modernizing Egypt’s pilot training fleet.…

In late November, the Ural Civil Aviation Plant (UZGA) conducted the maiden flight of the next UTS-800 initial training aircraft at its Aramil airfield in Sverdlovsk Region, Russia, according to the company’s press service.
Test pilot Alexey Yazynin reported that the flight met all mission objectives. “The flight was completed successfully, and all stability and handling characteristics of the aircraft have been confirmed. The UTS-800 performed predictably, and no issues were observed,” he stated.
Yazynin highlighted several operational advantages of the UTS-800, including low hourly operating costs, optimized takeoff and landing speeds suitable for flight training, and stable behavior at angles of attack approaching critical limits — ideal for cadet instruction. “The aircraft’s design is straightforward and tolerant of minor pilot errors,” he added.
This marks the third UTS-800 participating in flight tests. The first two serial aircraft, with tail numbers 06 and 07 (red), were delivered to the Russian Ministry of Defense for testing in December 2024. The first prototype conducted its maiden…

The engine has been delivered for installation on the aircraft and the start of flight tests as part of the aircraft. Commissioning works are currently underway to prepare for the first flight of the UTS-800 with a new domestic power unit.
The development of the VK-800SP started in 2020 and is focused on promising projects in small and regional aviation. The family includes three models: VK-800SP, VK-800S1 and VK-800SM, each adapted to a specific type of aircraft with a power of 807 to 877 hp. In particular, the VK-800SM is designed for the LMS-901 "Baikal" light multi-purpose aircraft, and the VK-800S1 is for the Russian-Belarusian regional LMS-192 "Osvey".

Russia's UTS-800 trainer completes ground tests ahead of first flight
Russia's Ural Civil Aviation Plant (UZGA) has announced the completion of ground vibration tests on the UTS-800 prototype fitted with the domestically produced VK-800SP turboprop engine.
The announcement was made by UZGA spokesperson Ekaterina Zgirovsky at the National Security. Belarus-2026 exhibition.
The UTS-800 is Russia's first turboprop-powered primary trainer, designed for initial pilot training and candidate selection. The aircraft previously flew with a General Electric powerplant; the production version will use the homegrown VK-800SP instead. Ground vibration testing — which maps airframe resonance frequencies and control system dynamics to rule out dangerous in-flight oscillations — has now been completed at the Yekaterinburg facility.
The test programme also verified electrical, hydraulic, landing gear, and avionics systems across a range of engine operating modes. Notably, foreign customers are reportedly eyeing the aircraft for patrol duties in addition to its primary training role.
