Russia fields its most advanced air defense system with 300 mile-range
S-500 Prometheus, Russia’s most advanced air defense system, with an estimated 373-mile (600 km) range, has entered combat duty as a regiment, as per Russian media reports.
This also marks the first time the Russian Aerospace Forces have combined air and missile defense into a single system, prompting the creation of a new division within the force.
The S-500 Prometheus succeeds the S-400 Triumf, the mainstay of Russian air defense that first entered service nearly two decades ago. The mobile surface-to-air missile system builds upon the capabilities of its predecessors, such as the S-300, which have been in service since the Soviet era.
As Russia seeks to replace its S-300 systems, it is also seeking to counter newer threats, such as hypersonic missiles and those originating from space. The development of the S-500 has been underway for over a decade, marred by production delays. According to Russian reports, the system has now entered combat duty, with the first regiment already in service.
The design of the S-500 Prometheus is much like its predecessor. It consists of a 10×10 truck that serves as the lau…

Orlan-10 (Орлан-10) - UDS Aviation
Origin:Russia |Manufacturer:Special Technology Center (STC)Role:Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (ISR) / Electronic Warfare (EW)
TheOrlan-10is the workhorse of Russia’s tactical drone fleet. Developed by the St. Petersburg-basedSpecial Technology Center (STC), the Orlan-10 emerged from Russia’s post-2008 military reform as a solution to a long-standing ISR gap. By the time of the 2014 Crimea operation, Orlan drones were flying dozens of sorties per day, often in mixed “drone flocks” with other UAVs like the Eleron-3. What makes the Orlan-10 significant is the doctrine behind its operational use and the changes that it reflected in the pre-Ukraine view of Russia’s armed forces on drone warfare. Russian forces continue use it to spot artillery targets, jam communications, and feed real-time video to battalion-level units and above. It became infamous during the early stages of the 2022 Ukraine War for its role in deadly “reconnaissance-strike complexes“where Orlans spot targets for immediate fire missions.
With costs a central consideration for Russia, it’s designed formass deployment, not survivability. Teardowns of captured drones have …

The reconnaissance UAV surpasses its foreign counterparts in terms of performance and costs much less.
The developers of the Piranha-10 FPV drone, whichdestroyedthe first Abrams in its area, have created a new reconnaissance UAV, the Sova-13. In terms of technical characteristics, it surpasses its foreign counterparts, but it costs almost twice as much. And it can work as a repeater for other drones, providing them with a large coverage area. In addition, the drone is modular — right on the front line, it can be reassembled to operate on a different frequency, which is extremely important in conditions of active use of electronic warfare by the enemy, experts say.
The Sova-13 multifunctional repeater drone will enable Russian military personnel to conduct reconnaissance for over an hour and a half with high-quality video, the ability to hover and hold positions. According to the developers, it operates at both standard 5.8GHz frequencies and special unique frequencies. This allows you to maintain control in difficult conditions and minimizes the risks of electronic warfare communications suppression.

Russia presents ZALA Z-51E kamikaze drone to Malaysia for rapid strikes ...
Russia has presented for the first time the ZALA Z-51E loitering munition to Malaysia to strike targets deep behind the frontline, signaling a continued push to expand precision strike capabilities at the tactical level. Also known as Izdeliye 51E, the drone is part of the Lancet-E system, which enables small, dispersed units to rapidly detect and hit artillery, radar, and air defense assets beyond direct fire range, compressing the time between targeting and engagement.
The Z-51E integrates reconnaissance and strike functions through a closed loop with a companion ISR drone, allowing operators to guide attacks in real time against both stationary and moving targets. Its mobile, disposable launch system and low-signature design support distributed operations and survivability, but limited warhead power means multiple drones are often required to reliably neutralize armored targets, reinforcing its role in precision disruption rather than decisive destruction.

During the UMEX 2026 exhibition in the United Arab Emirates, russians showed off three new variants of Molniya drone. Specifically, they showed the Lightning 2, Lightning P, and Lightning R variants.
Besides being showcased at the exhibition, the drone's name being translated into English also signals plans for future export. All these new variants are continuations of the Molniya-2 drone, which is equipped with two engines.
However, there are important differences between them: Lightning 2 is designed to deliver cargo weighing up to six kg over a distance of up to 50 km, with medical supplies being a prime example of such cargo. Other potential uses include training UAV operators and emergency monitoring.
In reality, however, the drone is clearly designed for strikes on ground targets, with a warhead installed. Given the russian federation's experience in using these UAVs, they can alsobe equipped with FPV drones, satellite communication antennas, supplies for forces operating in encirclement or on the front lines, and evenfiber-optic reels, making them even more dangerous.

Russia Develops 7.62 mm Cartridge to Combat Drones
Russia has developed a 7.62 mm round to combat drones.
The corresponding fragment from the television program of the Zvezda channel waspublishedby the user GrandpaRoy2 on the X network.
As noted in the video, Russian private organizations have begun production of 7.62 x 39 caliber ammunition for assault rifles, with bullets printed on a 3D printer.
Judging by the videos posted online, in addition to using individual cartridge cases, they also use live ammunition, from which a bullet is removed and a special bullet with shot is installed.
According to Russian propaganda media, they will increase the chances of shooting down an enemy drone during an assault and allow the offensive to continue with minimal risk.
Such bullets are an alternative to shotguns, as the amount of shot is much smaller, as is the effective area of damage.
Militarnyi recentlyreportedthat Russian military personnel had created homemade shotgun shells for AKs to protect against drones.
For processing, they took 5.45 x 39 mm tracer rounds, from which a bullet was extracted.
To create a shotgun cartridge, Russian soldiers fill a shrink tube with 4 mm diame…

Russia’s Yolka drone vs. Ukrainian attack drones
The number of operational videos has been rising significantly for weeks. What long seemed like a niche project now appears to have made the leap to widespread field testing. There is much to suggest that Russia has completed development and that mass production is already being prepared or has even begun. The system is called Yolka (Ёлки/Christmas Tree) and is intended to combat Ukrainian UAVs as an autonomous interceptor drone.
For Russia, this means that the hardware is ready for deployment, and mass production is expected to begin or is already underway. Moscow is cited as the production site.
The Yolka is set to be produced in large quantities in Moscow.
Yolka
The Yolka first attracted significant attention during the May Day celebrations in 2025 on Red Square in Moscow. A leaked video shows the drone in the vicinity of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The person carrying it, partially concealed, appears to be a member of his security detail.
After that, the Yolka largely disappeared from the public eye. Aside from a few scattered photos and video…

The effectiveness of countering Russian invaders often depends on the use of specialized UAVs. In the early stages of the liberation war in Ukraine, there was a shortage of these tools, but their development has recently intensified, and this is already bearing fruit. For example, the SBU’s own Sea Baby marine drone attacked the Crimean bridge.
At the same time, Ukraine is creating an airborne radio reconnaissance complex based on the Gekata drone. It is designed to detect military equipment of the Russian occupiers far beyond the front line. And then the Armed Forces will be able to destroy the identified targets using other means of destruction.
Gekata is the latest development of the Ukrainian Infozahyst Research and Development Center. According to the developers, this complex will be able to perform a wide range of radio reconnaissance tasks. Gekata will search for, detect and identify signal pulses from enemy systems such as rada…

Russia Demonstrates Supercam S180 Recon Drone With Claimed Anti-FPV ...
Russia has presented a new reconnaissance drone, the Supercam S180, claiming it features a factory-installed system to counter FPV drones.
This is the second “anti-FPV” version of the Supercam, which Russian officials presented as a way to improve the survivability of reconnaissance missions at the front line,TASSreported, as well as the Ukrainian Telegram channel “Potuzhny Informator.”
In practice, the system’s effectiveness appears minimal: Ukrainian FPVs regularly shoot down these drones, including the latest video reportedly showing the destruction of a Supercam S180 from the 47th Motorized Rifle Brigade.
There is no independent verification of the claimed evasion systems. All evidence comes from the manufacturer.
OSINT analysts say the Supercam remains an easy target for FPV interceptors.
According to experts, Russia is attempting to offset these shortcomings through mass production. At least five companies are reportedly developing their own evasion systems simultaneously.

Can russia's Sokol-I, Molniya-PVO Really Pose a Threat to Ukrainian ...
russian sources claim new Sokol-I and Molniya-PVO interceptor drones designed to threaten Ukrainian UAVs, including Hornet-class systems.
The operational effectiveness of these systems remains unverified. However, the characteristics claimed by russian sources provide insight into the intended capabilities and potential limitations of these platforms.
In the case of the Sokol-I interceptor drone, russian reports claim a maximum speed of up to 150 km/h, a service ceiling of up to 5,000 meters, and a foam-based airframe. Its warhead is described either as a proximity-fused explosive charge or a kinetic impact mechanism intended for direct ramming of the target.
The Sokol-I is also reportedly equipped with both daytime and thermal imaging cameras for visual target acquisition. Its stated mission is to engage fixed-wing strike and reconnaissance UAVs used by Ukraine, including the Leleka, Bulava, and Hornet platforms.
One of the most significant missing parameters in russian claims is endurance. This is a critical factor, as it determines how many interception attempts can be made before the drone exhausts its…

From FPV to Fixed-Wing: russia Equips Molniya Drones with Machine ...
russian forces are expanding the types of unmanned aerial vehicles they equip with onboard target acquisition and guidance systems based on machine vision, according to Serhii Flash. What began as relatively common computer vision suites for FPV attack drones is now being adapted for larger, fixed-wing strike platforms such as the Molniya, a worrying step that blends cheap massed strike concepts with autonomy and extended range precision.
Machine vision guidance for FPV drones has been visible since early 2024, when both sides began fielding systems that could lock onto and track targets visually, raising hit probability against small and moving targets. The core advantage is twofold: visual algorithms can keep steering a munition to a visible aimpoint when radio links die, and they can operate around or through short range electronic warfare bubbles that would otherwise blind remote pilots. That combination increases both effectiveness and survivability of low cost kamikaze drones.
Adapting the same capability to airplane type drones like the Molniya is technically harder but tactically valuable. Fixed-wing s…

Russia Develops New Lys-2 Interceptor Drones with Automatic Target ...
The Russian military has begun receiving Lys-2 interceptor drones capable of shooting down Ukrainian UAVs.
This was reported by an analyst from
The Dead District
, who posted photos of the drones on social media platform X.
The drone has been equipped with automatic target acquisition, allowing it to track and engage aerial targets.
The new Russian interceptor drone is designed using a ‘wing’ aerodynamic configuration. The ‘wing’ configuration generates lift through forward motion, so the drone does not ‘hover’ in the air continuously like a copter, but rather glides forward efficiently and is capable of reaching higher speeds and altitudes.
Typically, such interceptors reach speeds of 200–230 km/h and have a range of up to 5 km.
Source:
MILITARNYI
Why This Matters:
The introduction of the Lys-2 interceptor drone reflects Russia’s growing focus on counter-UAV capabilities in response to the widespread use of drones by Ukraine. By integrating automatic target acquisition and a high-speed fixed-wing design, these systems are optimized to efficiently track and destroy aerial threats, addressing a critical vulnerab…

The Russian Army is preparing to field a new class of rifle-calibre ammunition designed specifically to counter the rapidly evolving threat posed by low-flying first-person-view drones on the modern battlefield. Announced by the state-owned defense conglomerate Rostec in late January 2026, the new munition reflects a growing recognition that small unmanned aerial systems have fundamentally altered frontline combat dynamics, forcing infantry units to assume roles once reserved for dedicated air defense assets.
Unlike improvised solutions or stopgap adaptations, the newly revealed ammunition—designated
Mnogotochie
—is intended to integrate seamlessly into existing Russian small-arms inventories. By allowing ordinary soldiers armed with standard Kalashnikov rifles to engage aerial targets at tactically relevant ranges, the system aims to close a critical vulnerability exposed during prolonged combat operations in Ukraine, where FPV drones have becom…

Russia unveils new anti-drone ammunition, state arms maker says
A Russian defence manufacturer has developed new small-arms ammunition designed to counter drones, according to the state news agencyTASS.
The rounds, known as SC‑226 and SC‑228 and brandedMnogotochie(“Ellipsis”), were developed by the High-Precision Systems holding, part of the state-owned defence conglomerate Rostec.
Rostec said the new multi-projectile cartridges significantly improve the effectiveness of fire against small unmanned aerial vehicles. Bekkhan Ozdoev, industrial director of Rostec’s weapons cluster, was quoted as saying that the ammunition increases effectiveness by around 2.5 times at ranges of up to 300 metres compared with standard rounds.
According to the company, the ammunition is produced in 5.45×39 mm and 7.62×54 mm calibres and uses a three-element bullet that separates during flight. Standard cartridge cases and propellant are used, which, Rostec said, allows for serial production without major changes to existing manufacturing processes.
Engineers said the design ensures an even separation of all three elements after firing, increasing hit probability against small, highly manoeuvrable a…

The drone can reach speeds of up to 350 km/h, operate without GPS, and conduct missions to intercept aerial targets over long distances, the Defense Ministryreported, according toRubryka.
LITAVR's main feature is itsPixel Lock (Last Mile) automatic target-acquisition system. It allows the drone to independently track and attack a target in the final stage of flight.
Developers say the technology significantly simplifies the operator's work when intercepting fast aerial objects and increases the likelihood of a successful strike.
The drone also has itsown navigation system, which allows it to operate without GPS, while radar integration is handled through the LARAG software.
After a target is detected, the operator locks it in the sight, at which point the Pixel Lock system automatically locks onto the object and begins tracking it.
During the final interception stage, the system independently adjusts the drone's flight path and guides it toward the target. The operator only needs to control the closing speed, while the onboard system performs the remaining acti…
