A Japanese-flagged container ship owned by Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has been damaged in the Persian Gulf with no injuries reported.
In a written statement, the company said that One Majesty was found in the early hours of Wednesday to have sustained damage to its stern while anchored in the Persian Gulf, about 97 kilometers from the Strait of Hormuz.
The ship is owned and managed by MOL and is operated by Ocean Network Express (ONE), a consortium partly owned by MOL.
No crew members were injured, and there has been no flooding, fire or oil leakage reported on the vessel, the company said, adding that sailing capability has been confirmed.
The company said it is working with relevant parties to investigate the cause of the damage.
The Financial Times first reported that the container ship was “struck” in the Gulf in the early hours of Wednesday, and sustained partial damage to the hull. It did not say what struck the vessel.
Japan confirmed last week that 42 Japan-related vessels are on standby in the Persian Gulf and that 23 Japanese nationals are aboard four vessels.

TOKYO, June 19 (Reuters) – A vessel owned by a Japanese company carrying three Japanese crew members safely passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Friday and exited the Gulf, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
• The vessel, which had been stuck in the Gulf due to the Iran war, is now sailing toward Japan, MOFA said, adding the government had coordinated with Iran over the passage.
• The vessel is a Liberian-flagged crude oil tanker owned by Japan’s Kyoei Tanker, the company said.
• All Japan-linked vessels carrying Japanese crew members have now evacuated the Gulf, the ministry said.
• “Following the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, the government will continue making every diplomatic effort to ensure that free and safe navigation of vessels in the Strait of Hormuz resumes promptly”, Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said on X.
• Thirty-seven vessels linked to Japan are still waiting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, Takaichi added.

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- A Japan-related ship sustained partial damage last week while anchored in the Persian Gulf amid the U.S.-Israel war against Iran, with no injuries reported, the transport minister said Tuesday.
The vessel's hull was found damaged after suffering some kind of impact in the early hours of Saturday, transport minister Yasushi Kaneko said at a press conference, adding that it can sail under its own power. The cause and the extent of the damage are still being investigated, he said.
No Japanese nationals are aboard the ship. The damage occurred before the United States and Iran reached an agreement Sunday aimed at ending their monthslong war in the Middle East.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, 38 Japan-affiliated vessels remain in the gulf.
