Visakhapatnam:The 12th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with enthusiasm in Visakhapatnam as the state government organised the ‘Yogandhra’ programme at Sagarika Function Hall on Beach Road. The event, originally scheduled at RK Beach, was shifted indoors due to heavy rain.
Addressing the gathering, home minister Vangalapudi Anitha said yoga should become a part of daily life and underscored the government's commitment to building a healthy Andhra Pradesh. She said the state had organised Yoga Fortnight celebrations across villages and districts in line with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's vision to promote awareness about yoga.
The minister highlighted yoga's role in combating stress and depression, particularly among children, and emphasised its benefits for physical and mental well-being. As part of the ongoing preparations for the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY), to be observed on June 21, 2026, the Ayush Wing of the Directorate of Health Services, A&N Administration, recently organized a series of flash mob events at prominent public locations across South Andaman to spread awareness about the benefits of Yoga.
The events were conducted in front of the Bambooflat Police Station and at Goal Ghar and Bathubasti Junction, drawing the attention of local residents, commuters and passers-by. The lively performances transformed busy public spaces into vibrant platforms for promoting the importance of Yoga and healthy living.
Led by a dedicated team of Yoga instructors and volunteers, the flash mobs featured synchronized Yoga demonstrations blended with rhythmic movements. The ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute observed the International Day of Yoga today by organising awareness workshops and demonstrations of yoga Asanas at its Headquarters in Kochi and various Regional Centres and Regional Stations. The celebrations focused on this year’s theme: ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ effectively encapsulating the collective aspiration for ‘One Earth, One Family, and One Future’.
A lecture followed by a demonstration of yoga was organised at the Mandapam Regional Centre of ICAR-CMFRI. A total of 46 staff of Mandapam Regional Centre participated.

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) commemorated International Yoga Day on Sunday with 1,564 students and Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar participating in the session on the university grounds. The event formed part of the nationwide celebration of International Yoga Day, observed annually on June 21.
Speaking to the assembled students in English, Governor Arlekar emphasised the significance of yoga and urged them to incorporate it into their daily routines. Following the programme, he extended his wishes to the students and posed for photographs with them. A Mimusops elengi (Spanish Cherry) sapling was also planted to mark the occasion.

Kolkata, Jun 20 (PTI) Around 35,000 people are expected to gather in Kolkata on June 21 for one of the country’s largest celebrations of the International Day of Yoga (IDY), with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to lead the national event, officials said on Saturday.
They said an estimated 10 lakh people will participate in synchronised yoga sessions at various locations across Kolkata. Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, said, “This is the first time West Bengal is hosting the flagship International Day of Yoga event on such a large scale. Addressing the media in Amaravati, Naidu said the government's objective is to make yoga a daily household practice rather than a one-day event, and to build it into a public health movement under the Swarna Andhra Vision-2047.
The 12th International Day of Yoga this year carries the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing". The state government has set a goal of involving one crore people across Andhra Pradesh. "Yoga should evolve into a powerful public health movement for building a healthier Andhra Pradesh," Naidu said, adding that Yogandhra-2026 is being taken up as a prestigious initiative to continue the momentum created last year.
Yogandhra-2026 activities will run from June 7 to June 20 across all districts. A major demonstration involving 25,000 participants will be held on the Krishna River West Bypass Bridge in Amaravati.
Every district has been assigned a special theme. District-level events with 2,000 to 3,000 participants will be conducted in each district. Dedicated sessions are planned for specific groups, including police personnel in the NTR District and farmers in the Konaseema District.

Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise nor is it restricted to any particular age group, but an expression of the human spirit, as he addressed the nation at the 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations from Kolkata's Red Road.
Highlighting yoga's growing global appeal, Modi noted that June 21, which marks the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, has now also become the world's largest community celebration day because of yoga.

Mysuru:
Nearly 8,000 yoga enthusiasts will be taking part in the 12th International Day of Yoga event to be held at Mysore Palace premises tomorrow.
The event, jointly organised by Mysuru District Administration, Mysuru ZP, Department of AYUSH, Mysore Palace Board and Yoga Federation of Mysore will witness yoga enthusiasts from the various yoga schools and institutions performing different asanas to mark the occasion.
District Administration has made all arrangements for the smooth conduct of the event. Entry to the Mysore Palace premises has been provided through Varaha Gate (opposite JSS Mahavidyapeetha) and Balarama Gate (next to Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple). The event will be held between 6 am and 8 am including the stage programme for about 20 minutes.
Department of Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Muzrai Department) will be providing breakfast for nearly 8,000 participants while Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has made arrangements for providing drinking water and maintaining cleanliness at the venue.
