A Ukrainian-made suicide drone carrying 300 kilograms of explosives was found drifting off the Black Sea coast near Türkiye’s port city of Trabzon on Monday night, Haberturk outlet has reported.
Local fishermen caught the“object believed to be of foreign origin”in their nets and hauled it to port, the Trabzon Governor’s Office said in a statement on Tuesday.
Security measures were taken, and elite Turkish Underwater Defense (SAS) diving teams, along with other security services, were called in, it said. The office also warned citizens not to interact with these types of objects if they come across them.
The authorities determined the weapon to be a Ukrainian Magura V5 series kamikaze naval drone, Haberturk wrote on Tuesday.

Thanks to some Turkish fishermen, we are getting a pretty good look at a Ukrainian
Magura drone boat
they
found last night
. Also known as an uncrewed surface vessel (USV), the Maguras have become
a key component
in Ukraine’s campaign against Russia’s Black Sea Fleet (BSF). It was found days after a video emerged on social media showing a claimed Russian capture of another Magura, which you can read more about later in this story.
This explosive-laden Magura was found offshore near the town of Çarşıbaşı, according to Turkish authorities. The town is located about 900 miles from Ukrainian-held territory on the southeastern shore of the Black Sea. The location is about 600 miles southeast of the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula, where Ukraine has carried out
the bulk of its USV attacks

Adrift in the Black Sea: The Unseen Threat from War's Spillage
Two adrift USVs have been reported in the Black Sea within the past 2 months, marking a new maritime threat within the region
A Dangerous Pattern
On 29th September, Turkish fishermen found a USV, loaded with 300 kg of explosives
Since early 2022, drifting naval devices have become an alarming byproduct of the Russo-Ukrainian war. What began with floating mines has evolved into a broader threat with Ukraine’s increasing use of uncrewed surface vessels (USVs). These potentially explosive-laden drones have formed a key part of Ukraine’s asymmetric naval strategy, forcing Russia to pull key assets away from Crimea.

USVs, the number of incidents involving adrift drones has risen. In these past months, the Black Sea has seen multiple events:
29 September 2025 – Çarşıbaşı, Turkey:
Fishermen in the Trabzon province discovered a Magura USV containing 300 kilograms of explosives. It had entered Turkish waters, posing a severe risk to coastal infrastructure and maritime traffic.

It is noted that the drone had spent a long time in the water and was damaged. Its body and blades were made of polystyrene foam, the propellers of wood, and the fasteners of plastic.
Specialists suggest the drone may be of Russian manufacture, but its exact origin will be determined after examination in Ankara.
It is also noted that the device can carry munitions, but was likely used as a decoy. Preliminary assessments say …

Turkish Navy explosive ordnance disposal units neutralized a U.S.-made AEGIR-W unmanned surface vessel developed by Sierra Nevada Corporation after it washed ashore on Türkiye’s Black Sea coast, eliminating a live explosive threat near civilian areas.
The drone was discovered on March 20, 2026, and destroyed less than 24 hours later by the Istanbul S.A.S Group Command after being towed offshore, highlighting accelerated decision-making under explosive threat conditions. The incident, which occurred in the Unye district of Ordu, demonstrated Türkiye’s rapid-response capability to detect, assess, and destroy autonomous maritime systems posing immediate operational risk in the Black Sea region.
