A 19-year-old NEET aspirant died after falling from the upper floors of a residential building in Indore late on Thursday night, with family members saying she had been under stress after multiple attempts to clear themedical entrance examination.
Avantika Maurya, daughter of a government doctor from Madhya Pradesh, succumbed to her injuries at MY Hospital early Friday after being rushed from a private facility where she was initially admitted.
The incident comes amid heightened anxiety among National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) aspirants following recent controversies surrounding the examination process. Family members believe the uncertainty and stress linked to the exam had affected Avantika’s mental state in the days leading up to her death.

A 17-year-old student preparing for the NEET examination died after allegedly jumping from the sixth floor of a residential apartment in Ahmedabad's New Ranip area in the early hours of Tuesday.
The incident took place at around 2.30 am in B Block of Aristo Anandam Flats. According to preliminary information, the teenager, identified as Kahan Patel, allegedly cut through the net of the bedroom balcony before jumping from the sixth floor.
The security guard on duty noticed the incident after hearing a loud noise and immediately alerted residents and authorities. The student suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

BHOPAL: Two days before the NEET-UG re-examination, a 21-year-old aspirant died after allegedly falling from a multi-storeyed residential building in Indore, where she lived with her elder sister. The incident occurred in the Bhawarkuan area of the city.
Avantika Maurya, daughter of government medical officer Dr Banshi Maurya, was living in a rented flat with her elder sister, an MBBS graduate preparing for postgraduate medical entrance examinations.
“It was around 11.30 pm on Thursday when some students living in the locality informed us that Avantika had fallen from the building. She had left her cellphone in the rented flat while we were sleeping,” said her father, who was attending a six-day training programme at Indore’s MY Hospital.

Three days after allegedly attempting to end life, an 18-year-old NEET aspirant from Periya Muthiyampatti near Konganapuram in Tamil Nadu's Salem district, died during treatment at the hospital on Thursday.
Victim Sathya, daughter of Selvaraj and Chandra, had cleared the Standard 12th examination with 562 marks. Aspiring to be a doctor, she joined a NEET coaching center in Jalakandapuram area and appeared for the exam last year. COIMBATORE: A 19-year-old NEET aspirant, who had attempted the examination thrice, died at a hospital on Wednesday morning, hours after allegedly attempting to kill herself at her home in Kovai Pudur.
According to family members, the woman -- S Anukeerthana of Park Nagar in Kovai Pudur -- had been allegedly under severe mental stress after the exam cancellation and was worried about her family's financial circumstances, as her father, a supervisor at a Tasmac outlet, was recently affected by the government's closure of 717 liquor outlets.
In 2024, Anukeerthana completed Class 12 from a private school in Coimbatore and appeared for the medical entrance examination, but fell short of the cut-off marks. She attempted the examination in 2025 and again on May 3, 2026. Her family members said Anukeerthana had hoped to secure a medical seat in her third attempt, but the NEET cancellation due to alleged irregularities put her under severe mental stress.

allegedly ended her life in Maharashtra’s Nagpur, her family stumbled upon a note written by her, in which she apologised to them, saying she did not dare to appear for a retest of the medical entrance.
In the emotional note, the student, Akanksha Chaturvedi, said there was “no guarantee” that she would score good marks in the retest, and said she had “ruined everything” for them.

exam on May 3. After the test, she was upbeat and confident that she would score good marks. But the cancellation of that exam following allegations of a paper leak dashed her hopes and left her anxious and upset, according to her family members.

COIMBATORE:A 19-year-old NEET aspirant ended her life due to stress over taking a retest in Salem on Friday. S Gopika, daughter of Sekar (45), working in a saloon, and Bhuvaneswari (38), a daily wager, was preparing for NEET over the last two years after completing Class 12 at Salem Fort Government Girls Higher Secondary School. She had written NEET thrice, including the May 3 exam and was preparing hard for the retest.
On Friday morning, when her parents had gone to a relative's house, Gopika ended her life by hanging at her house in Vellalapuram near Chinnappampatti.
“As she couldn’t be reached over the phone, the parents rushed home, broke open the locked doors and found the girl hanging. She was immediately taken to Salem Government Hospital. However, she died on the way,” police said.
Her mother, Bhuvaneswari, said, “My daughter was upset as NEET was cancelled. Yet, she was preparing hard and appeared normal. She told us that she was allotted an examination centre in Vazhapadi and asked us to drop her off on Sunday."

Synopsis:With the NEET re-examination scheduled to be held on Monday, 22 June, following the cancellation of the earlier examination, relatives alleged that Gopika had been under severe stress and anxiety over the test.
A 19-year-old student preparing for the NEET examination allegedly died by suicide, on Friday, 19 June, in Salem district, with her family claiming that fear and stress over the upcoming re-examination drove her to take the extreme step.
The student, identified as Gopika, belonged to Erumapalayam in Salem district and was the daughter of Sekar and Bhuvaneswari. Sekar works as a barber and the family has two daughters and a son.
According to family members, Gopika had scored 440 marks in Class 12 and had been preparing for the NEET examination for the last two years with the aim of pursuing a medical career.
She had reportedly appeared for the examination twice earlier but was unsuccessful in clearing it.

A 17-year-old student, preparing for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) to get admission to any engineering course, died by suicide in Rajasthan’s Kota district on Sunday, marking the first such incident in the coaching hub this year.
Last year, at least 18 students died by suicide in Kota along with one each in Sikar and Jodhpur while another 20 students also died in Kota in 2024.
SHO Udhyog Nagar police station, Jitendra Singh, said: “The incident took place at around 8.30 pm on Sunday night at the Delhi-Mumbai railway track in Udhyog Nagar. He jumped before a train on the track.”
According to police, the student was a resident ofHaryana’s Sirsa. He arrived in Kota two years ago for JEE preparation and had been staying in a hostel in Rajeev Gandhi Nagar.
“On Sunday night, he was supposed to return to his village. In his last phone call, he informed his parents that histrainwas three hours late. Soon after this call, he reached the station and jumped before a train,” said the SHO.
