Turkey Integrates SİPER-1 Long-range Air Defense System Tweet Share Pin 0 Shares Turkey’s newly integrated SİPER-1 long-range air defense system now adds a deep coverage layer to the national missile shield. Developed under the Presidency of Defence Industries with ASELSAN, Roketsan and TÜBİTAK SAGE, SİPER-1 has completed acceptance testing and been officially inducted into Turkey’s multi-layer “Steel Dome” air defense network. This homegrown system complements shorter-range Hisar batteries and is a strategic step toward reducing reliance on foreign platforms such as the U.S. Patriot or the Russian S-400. The SİPER program dates back to about 2018 and was launched to fill a gap left by delayed foreign acquisitions and to boost sovereign defense. By late 2022 Turkish engineers had test-fired prototypes in Sinop with one missile flying beyond 100km in range. In May 2023 the system’s final live-fire trial succeeded, confirming its accuracy.
