The 41-year-old struggled on Wednesday
Cristiano Ronaldo's sister has defended the Portugal captain following criticism of his display against DR Congo by insisting none of Roberto Martinez's players performed to the expected standard.
Portugal were forced to settle for a disappointing 1-1 draw in Houston after surrendering an early lead in their opening World Cup fixture.
Joao Neves had put Martinez's side ahead with a deft header, only for Yoane Wissa to equalise shortly before half-time after being left unmarked inside the penalty area.
Ronaldo led the line for Portugal but was unable to convert either of the chances that fell his way after the interval, with pundits questioning the veteran forward's influence.
Former Arsenal and France striker Thierry Henry suggested the 41-year-old was focusing too heavily on his own goalscoring ambitions rather than the needs of the team.

Cristiano Ronaldo's sister has liked an Instagram post attackingBruno Fernandes- igniting reports of tension in the Portuguese camp after their drab 1-1 draw with DR Congo on Wednesday.
Having boarded their plane to the United States as one of the favourites, Portugal got their World Cup campaign off to a dismal start in Houston.
Joao Neves put Roberto Martinez's side 1-0 up early on with an impressive header but, on the brink of half-time, the African nation struck back through Yoan Wissa.
And that would be how the tie would end, despite Portugal sitting some 37 places above Congo in FIFA's world rankings.
Backlash in Portugal has been unsurprisingly rife, with calls growing for Ronaldo to be dropped after the ex-Man United star failed to register a single shot on target in Texas.
But now, in a dramatic turn of events, Ronaldo's sister appears to have thrown her support behind an attack on Red Devils captain Fernandes.

Speculation over tensions within the Portugal camp intensified afterCristiano Ronaldo's sister liked an Instagram post criticisingBruno Fernandesfollowing the team's disappointing 1-1 draw against DR Congo in Houston on Wednesday.
Portugal entered the FIFA World Cup 2026 as one of the favourites for the title, but the former European champions stumbled in their opening Group K fixture.
Joao Neves had given Roberto Martinez's side the lead with a well-taken header, but DR Congo seized control soon after and levelled through Yoane Wissa just before half-time. Despite dominating possession for large periods, Portugal struggled to break down Congo's disciplined defensive structure.
The performance drew widespread criticism, with Ronaldo once again facing scrutiny over his place in the starting XI. The 41-year-old, appearing at a record sixth World Cup, has now gone 10 consecutive matches at major tournaments without scoring. Fernandes also came under fire after creating just one chance during the match.
The debate escalated when Ronaldo's elder sister, Katia Aveiro, appeared to endorse criticism of Fernandes …

Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo both endured a frustrating start to the 2026 World Cup.
Portugal were
held to a 1-1 draw by DR Congo
in their opening group-stage fixture.
Despite entering the tournament with high expectations, Roberto Martinez’s side failed to turn their dominance into three points.
Ronaldo was unable to register a shot on target, while Fernandes struggled to influence proceedings from midfield as Portugal dropped points against the African nation.
The result came as a surprise given the quality available to Portugal, particularly after Fernandes enjoyed one of the best individual campaigns of his career at club level.
The Manchester United captain broke the
Premier League’s all-time single-season assist record
during the 2025/26 campaign, registering 21 assists.
However, criticism quickly followed Portugal’s disappointing World Cup opener, and Fernandes has now found himself at the centre of an unexpected social media controversy.

Speaking to Sport TV, Katia said, "Enjoy it while it lasts. It's ending soon. The info I have, from a reliable source... this is his last dance."
Defending her brother from recent criticism, she said, “For intelligent people, those who like football, they have to like Ronaldo. They are the ones who end up losing out. He has been dominating for more than 20 years. Look where we are, the Aveiro family... and where we come from. Look at the suffering my mother went through... Do you think criticism will affect our happiness? Never!”
