TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — China imposed new export controls Monday on 40 Japanese entities it says are contributing to the country’s “remilitarization,” as tensions with Tokyo rise.
Relations between Beijing and Tokyo have been increasingly tense since Japanese Prime MinisterSanae Takaichilast year impliedJapan could interveneif China used military force against Taiwan, an island democracy China claims as its own.

BEIJING – China added 20 Japanese entities to a blacklist on June 29 including major companies in order to block the export of dual-use items, the commerce ministry said, escalating a months-long row between Beijing and Tokyo.
“For the purpose of safeguarding national security and interests and fulfilling international obligations including non-proliferation, it has been decided to include 20 Japanese entities... that have participated in enhancing Japan’s military capabilities on the export control list,” the statement said.
Relations between the countries were rocked in November when Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi suggested that Tokyo may react militarily to an attack on Taiwan, the self-ruled island Beijing has vowed to seize control of by force if necessary.

China's Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday added 20 Japanese entities, including Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Shipbuilding Co., to its export control list to safeguard national security and interests and fulfill international obligations such as non-proliferation.
Export operators are prohibited from exporting dual-use items to the entities, which are involved in enhancing Japan's military capabilities. Overseas organizations and individuals are prohibited from transferring or providing dual-use items originating in China to the entities.
