Since March 2, more than 1.3 million people have been displaced in Lebanon. Mass evacuation orders issued by the Israeli military covered more than 100 villages and towns in southern and eastern Lebanon, including all of Beirut’s southern suburbs, according to Amnesty Canada. Israel launched Operation Eternal Darkness, involving over a hundred strikes across Lebanon in a single ten-minute window, according to Jacobin.com.

The United Nations reported that Israel violated the ceasefire that came into effect on November 27, 2024, on a near-daily basis, according to The National’s Shorthand Stories. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez accused Israel of seeking to inflict the same level of damage and destruction on Lebanon as it did in Gaza, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan warned that Israel’s Lebanon campaign resembles the situation in Gaza, according to the Washington Institute. Displacement events in Lebanon and Palestine have occurred repeatedly since 1948, including in 1967, 1978, 1982, 1993, 1996, and 2006, according to Jacobin.com. In 1948, approximately 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly displaced during the Nakba, according to Jacobin.com.
