A chemical tank at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging paper mill in Longview, Washington imploded or ruptured on Tuesday, according to reports from both Chinese and Western outlets. Scott Goldstein, chief of Cowlitz Fire and Rescue, gave statements about the incident. The facility, which employs about 1,000 people and makes material for tissues, printing paper, cups, plates, cartons and other goods, was the site of the event (Hindu).

At least one person was killed in the incident, a fact reported by Indian and multiple other sources. The Seattle Times also reported one death, while the BBC said multiple people were killed and the Guardian later reported the death toll rose to 11.
