A building known as a nesting site for swifts, which are classified as at-risk birds, was demolished by contractors for the housebuilder Hill Group near Dorking station in Surrey during the nesting season, which runs from 1 March to 31 August. According to the Guardian, the demolition occurred over the last few weeks. Bluesky reported that the building contained many active swift nests and that the demolition also affected other nesting birds and bats. Campaigners, as reported by the Guardian, say wildlife protection from development is considered insufficient.
