Four military officers from Indonesia’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) were sentenced to prison by a military court in Jakarta for an acid attack on human rights activist Andrie Yunus. The defendants were found guilty of premeditated assault. Yunus, a deputy coordinator with the human rights group KontraS, was injured in the attack, which occurred in March and left him blind in one eye, according to SCMP. The sentences handed down ranged from 18 months to three years, SCMP reported. The head of BAIS, Yudi Abrimantyo, stepped down following the attack, according to SCMP. The trial was criticized as insufficient for not investigating higher-level actors.
