Three Saudi‑flagged supertankers carrying six million barrels of crude oil sailed through the Strait of Hormuz hours after U.S. President Donald Trump signed a deal with Iran to end the conflict. At least three Iranian oil tankers also broke through the U.S. naval blockade, and two cargo ships transporting essential goods successfully completed the passage.

According to Al Arabiya, the Saudi departures were the biggest through the strait in weeks, and Saudi Arabia has primarily used its Red Sea port terminal of Yanbu to ship oil since the conflict began on Feb. 28, which has disrupted hundreds of millions of barrels from leaving Gulf producer ports via Hormuz. The BBC reported that three Iranian tankers loaded with crude oil passed the U.S. blockade line in the Gulf of Oman.

The DefenderNG reported that the United States imposed a naval blockade amid the war against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and that the vessels sailed on the evening of Monday, June 15, 2026, marking the first operational victory of the newly finalized memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States. Middle East Eye noted that U.S. Central Command said Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz, rejecting Iran's claim that passage is only permitted through routes designated by Iran. The same source added that since early May, U.S. forces have helped facilitate the transit of more than 800 commercial vessels and 380 million barrels of crude oil through the international waterway.
