Gaurav Chopra, a 19‑year‑old Indian‑origin student, was arrested and charged in Texas for fatally shooting his parents and grandmother on June 16. The incident occurred at the family’s home in the gated Tuscany Village subdivision in Alton, Texas, according to IndiaWest.

The victims were identified as Chopra’s father Sweeta Ram, 56, mother Kamlesh Rani, 46, and grandmother Minder Kaur, 76, as reported by Hindustan Times. Chopra’s brother escaped the house, was shot at, and called 911, according to IndiaWest, and Times of India noted that the brother narrowly escaped the attack. IndiaWest also reported that Chopra pointed a firearm at his brother and fired a shot that missed.

Chopra was apprehended after a chase, Hindustan Times reported. He is being held without bond at the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center, per IndiaWest. The charges listed include capital murder of multiple persons, attempted capital murder, felony evading arrest, and aggravated assault, according to IndiaWest. Investigators are seeking a motive for the crime, Times of India reported.
