Typhoon Jangmi made landfall in the southern part of Wakayama Prefecture in western Japan at around 4:30 a.m., after passing near Okinawa and Kagoshima prefectures in the preceding two days. The storm, which formed within a monsoonal gyre over the Philippine Sea, caused flooding and mudslides across western and eastern Japan. The weather agency issued its highest level 5 flood warning for the Koza River in Wakayama Prefecture. Evacuation advisories were issued to hundreds of thousands of residents in eight prefectures across southwestern, central and eastern Japan. Power was cut to 60,000 homes, and dozens of people were injured. Typhoon Jangmi triggered top-level flood warnings and travel disruptions in Japan.
