The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Enugu Region, conducted a community sensitization campaign in the Umuhuali, Ezillo, and Nkalagu communities of Ebonyi State. The campaign aimed to address rising incidents of vandalism of power installations, the erection of illegal structures on TCN’s Right of Way, and the excavation of soil near transmission tower bases. Dr. Thomas Inugonum, General Manager (Transmission), Enugu Region, stated that the initiative seeks to foster stronger relationships with communities hosting TCN infrastructure. He outlined five critical areas requiring community intervention: the dangers of vandalizing 330kV and 132kV high-voltage power lines; illegal erection of structures within TCN’s Right of Way; excavation of soil around transmission tower bases; the risks of trading, farming, or residing directly under 330kV/132kV towers; and the practice of burning waste materials beneath transmission lines. Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN, issued a statement regarding the campaign. According to independent.ng, the campaign took place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, and host communities were urged to report suspicious activities around transmission facilities to TCN and security operatives.
