A fisherman in Massachusetts caught and released a white shark. The shark was briefly hooked off Nantucket beach, according to the Guardian, and was reported to be 9 feet long by WTAE. On Sunday, June 21, around 10 p.m., two local fishermen, Hans Brings Jr. and Camden Bonaiuto, hooked an 8‑foot‑long stingray while brown‑shark fishing near Popponesset Beach in Mashpee, the Cape Cod Times reported. Dr. Jeff Kneebone identified the ray as a roughtail stingray, and the Cape Cod Times noted that roughtail stingrays are very common off Cape Cod this time of year and are often caught by land‑based shark fishermen.
