The Nethravati riverfront promenade project, implemented by Mangaluru Smart City Limited, is preparing to open to the public in the second week of June. The first 450-metre section is ready for inauguration, with 300 metres of hardscaping remaining incomplete. An 1.8 km stretch is expected to be completed by the end of June, covering a total project length of 2.1 km. Public entry to the promenade area is temporarily restricted due to ongoing construction. Discussions are being held with a nearby club to facilitate an entry route and parking arrangements. The owner of a tile factory in the vicinity has agreed to provide access to the promenade. The project, initially proposed in a 2020 DPR, aims to make the riverbank an attractive tourist spot with facilities for recreation and includes planting saplings as part of environmental preservation. Several low-lying areas in Mangaluru face recurring artificial flooding during the monsoon.
