A shooting occurred on Monday at a youth welfare centre on Dankersstrasse, a street south of the town centre of Stade, in northern Germany. The attack left several people injured and resulted in multiple deaths. Reports differ on the fatality count: some outlets reported five people were killed, while others reported six deaths. Two people, including the suspected shooter, were arrested.

DW reported that a large police operation was underway in Stade following the incident. The police described the event as one of Germany's deadliest mass shootings in recent years. The facility, according to SCMP, provides temporary accommodation for pregnant women or young mothers with children.

Stade, which has about 50,000 inhabitants and is located roughly 40–50 kilometres west of Hamburg, was the scene of the shooting.
