Satyaki Savarkar stated that Vinayak Damodar Savarkar filed at least ten mercy petitions with British authorities seeking reduction of his sentence. Satyaki Savarkar accepted that Savarkar had filed a mercy petition within a month of being sentenced. According to The Hindu, Satyaki Savarkar said the language in Savarkar’s mercy petitions did not indicate loyalty to the British regime and that filing clemency petitions was a standard procedure under the British government. Satyaki Savarkar rejected the idea that filing mercy petitions contradicts the label 'Veer'. Satyaki Savarkar acknowledged that some view filing 10 clemency petitions as contradictory to being called 'Veer'.
