Columbus, Ohio, has prohibited the sale of flavored tobacco products, including menthol cigarettes, chewing tobacco, vape liquids, and cigars, since 2024. City leaders linked the regulation to health concerns and preventing sales to minors. ABC 6 News found that not every retailer in Columbus is complying with the ban, having purchased banned items such as fruit-flavored vape liquids and a coffee-flavored nicotine pouch during undercover visits to four stores. Mike Billman, owner of Billman’s Marathon, said his business is attempting to follow the law and that revenue has decreased due to the ban. He also stated that some retailers are violating the tobacco sales ban.

In Erode district, Tamil Nadu, the state government has prohibited the sale of gutkha, pan masala containing tobacco or nicotine, and similar products. From January 2025 to the present, 807 shops in Erode district were booked for selling banned tobacco products, with fines totaling ₹2.17 crore imposed and remitted to the government account. A total of 4,452 kg of seized tobacco products were destroyed at the Corporation’s compost yard. A shop on Jeevanandam Street in Kollampalayam was sealed and its license cancelled after violating the tobacco sales ban for the third time; orders regarding the shop were issued by the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department. The FDA regulates tobacco products containing nicotine and takes action when violations occur under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act).
