Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing and Russian President Vladimir Putin at his Valdai residence. Xi Jinping described China-Belarus relations as being at a historic peak and said China supports Belarus in preserving its state sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. According to the South China Morning Post, Lukashenko told Xi that being in China was for him 'like coming home.' According to Global Banking and Finance, Xi said China and Belarus must maintain strategic communication, promote the continuous advancement of bilateral relations at a high level, and better benefit the peoples of both countries. Xi also said China is willing to continue providing assistance within its capacity for Belarus' development and construction. According to the South China Morning Post, Lukashenko visited Russia and then China following a series of public exchanges with Ukraine. According to Global Banking and Finance, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy believes Putin is trying to get Lukashenko to step up his support for Russia in its Ukraine war.
