The University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing is launching a hybrid Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Nurse Practitioner program in Fall 2026. The program offers three concentrations: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), and Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP). It combines online coursework with short campus visits and local clinical placements, and is designed for working nurses.

According to triblive.com, the program is a two-year, six-semester program requiring 780 clinical hours. Nurse Practitioner Online reported that faculty coordinate clinical placements near students' home communities and that the application deadline for Fall 2026 is August 1, 2026. Dean Christine E. Kasper announced the program, according to nursing.pitt.edu.

Nursing.pitt.edu reported that nurse practitioners have a low unemployment rate of 0.6 percent, according to U.S. News & World Report, and that the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects nurse practitioner as among the fastest-growing occupations in the country. The median annual salary for nurse practitioners is $129,210 nationally as of May 2024.
