U.S. forces seized a Venezuela‑linked oil tanker in the North Atlantic after weeks of pursuit for sanctions violations, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The Motor Tanker Skipper was seized by the U.S. Coast Guard on Dec. 10 off the coast of Venezuela, reported by eenews.net. The United States accused the Skipper of being part of an oil‑shipping network that supported Hezbollah and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, eenews.net added. The Skipper is at least the seventh oil tanker seized for violating a partial U.S. naval blockade of Venezuelan oil exports, also reported by eenews.net.

The Motor Vessel Sagitta, a Panamanian‑flagged vessel owned by Sunne Co Limited, was seized by U.S. forces without incident, CBS News reported. The Sagitta had been sanctioned by the U.S. government in 2022 and was operating in defiance of President Trump’s quarantine of sanctioned vessels in the Caribbean, CBS News noted. CBS News also stated that the seizure of Sagitta was the seventh seizure of an oil tanker linked to Venezuela.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Sagitta had evaded U.S. Coast Guard boarding in the Caribbean.
