Accounts differ on the number of individuals planned for repatriation. One account states a group of 19 Australian women and children held in Syria since the defeat of Islamic State will return to Melbourne and Sydney on Tuesday. Another account, reported by 7news.com.au, states a planned convoy of approximately 34 Australians from a Syrian detention camp was halted and returned to the camp. According to 7news.com.au, the convoy was initially reported to be heading from Roj camp toward Damascus, with Kurdish authorities announcing the group’s release and saying they were being transferred toward Damascus before travelling to Beirut to seek assistance from the Australian embassy. Syrian officials described the reversal of the convoy as due to 'technical reasons' and procedural issues involving the Damascus government, with the issue possibly involving travel permissions between Kurdish-controlled territory and areas overseen by the Syrian government.

According to the Hindu, the group returning to Australia consists of seven women and twelve children.
