James Michael Hayes’s body was found in the parking lot behind Kensington Arms Apartments. Westmoreland County prosecutors contend a man who matched Larry Osborn Nix Jr.’s description fired on Hayes after he stopped his vehicle to retrieve a jacket from its trunk. Police said 41 rounds were fired from three guns, all from a distance from where Hayes’s body was found. Larry Osborn Nix Jr., 47, of West Brownsville, Washington County, is charged in connection with the Dec. 9, 2022 shooting death of Hayes. Nix has maintained his innocence since his arrest last year.

Accounts differ on the origin of the fatal wound: police said Hayes suffered a fatal head wound; police said Nix sustained a fatal head wound. Only one account can be consistent with the established narrative that Hayes was killed and Nix is the accused.

Separately, Amelia Lewis, 55, of Brackenridge, Allegheny County, was captured by sheriff deputies and Tarentum police. According to community.triblive.com, Lewis is detained in Westmoreland County Prison in connection with a 2022 murder case in New Kensington that has experienced multiple delays. Lewis requested to be released on electronic monitoring until trial, stating, 'I give you my word as a woman, I will show up July 13,' and 'I don’t want to be in jail, jail’s not a place where I like to be.' Judge Meagan Bilik-DeFazio refused to release Lewis on electronic monitoring or set bail, citing past statements by Lewis that she planned to leave town to avoid testifying.

Liza Ridley, 53, is charged with murder, possession of an instrument of crime, abuse of corpse, conspiracy to commit abuse of corpse, obstruction of justice, tampering with evidence, and other related offenses. According to nbcphiladelphia.com, Ridley, a caregiver, killed her boyfriend, Vincent Good, and family members assisted in disposing of his body. Vincent Good’s remains were found in a suitcase and trash bags in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood.
