Chinese automaker BYD has unveiled a new EV platform called Super e-Platform, featuring flash-charging batteries, a 30,000 RPM motor, and new silicon carbide power chips. The company claims its system can achieve a charging power of one megawatt and a peak charging speed of two kilometers per second. BYD says its technology can charge an EV from 20% to 97% in about 12 minutes even in subzero temperatures. According to BYD, the system allows drivers to charge an EV in roughly the same time it takes to refuel a gasoline car. BYD says its new system was capable of providing 470 kilometers (292 miles) of range in five minutes in tests on its new Han L sedan, Chairman and founder Wang Chuanfu said. According to autoweek.com, BYD unveiled its second-generation Blade Battery alongside a 1,500-kW charging system called FLASH Charging. Fortune.com reported that BYD will start selling vehicles with the new technology next month. CATL, the world’s biggest producer of batteries for EVs, demonstrated an EV battery that goes from 10% to 98% charge in under six-and-a-half minutes at Super Technology Day in Beijing in April, according to scmp. BYD is a Shenzhen-based automaker that also makes hybrid cars.
