An 11-year-old student identified as Vihan Srivastav claimed the life when a tree fell on a school bus or van belonging to Universal High School in Mumbai.

The tree collapse occurred at Chembur, near Road no. 11 and the Heritage Pride structure, and the fallen tree was a peepal tree. Twelve children were trapped inside the vehicle; the van’s conductor and local residents rescued them shortly after the incident. Four of the twelve children sustained minor injuries and one sustained critical injuries, and the injured children were taken to Chembur’s Zen Hospital for treatment.

According to The Hindu, Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde ordered an inquiry into the incident. According to The Times of India, the boy was laid to rest with a cricket ball beside him, family members and local leaders are demanding accountability for the fatal incident, and the community mourned the loss of the boy.
