Eight people were arrested for allegedly attempting to storm the Falta police station in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district to free Jahangir Khan. Police named Sarina Bibi, wife of former TMC leader Jahangir Khan, as the alleged mastermind behind the plan. Supporters of Jahangir Khan gathered in large numbers in Falta’s Shatol Kolsa area and held demonstrations before marching towards the police station, according to the New Indian Express. Security personnel were deployed in advance to prevent an attempt to attack the station during the protest, the New Indian Express reported. Jahangir Khan was apprehended near the India-Nepal border, according to the Times of India, and remains in judicial custody, the New Indian Express reported.
