Ramathan Ggoobi, Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury, defended the ongoing enforcement of trade order in Uganda, stating it is a strategy to transform the economy and attract investment. He said organized business practices are essential for Uganda’s economic transformation and that the next phase of growth will depend not only on increased public spending but also on reforms to improve accountability, efficiency, trade order, and tax compliance. Ggoobi said the government is determined to move beyond economic planning and focus on disciplined execution of policies that support growth, industrialization, and job creation. He added that enforcement of trade order and ensuring an orderly way of doing business in Uganda is critical. According to ugbulletin.co.ug, Ggoobi said trade order will inconvenience people going forward but will be appreciated with time, and that the government expects cooperation from stakeholders, including private sector actors and development partners, in supporting structured trade practices.
