A Bangladeshi youth named Mujibur Rahman Mujib, age 26, was killed in firing by Border Security Force (BSF) troops during an interception attempt along the India-Bangladesh border in Kailashahar, Tripura, according to GDELt. Mujib was a resident of Dattagram in Sharifpur Union, Moulvibazar district, Bangladesh. Several Bangladeshi nationals reportedly crossed into Indian territory on Friday evening and were alleged to have gathered in the border area for smuggling purposes. BSF troops opened fire during the interception, resulting in Mujib’s death on the spot.

Accounts differ on the scale of casualties. While only Mujib’s death is confirmed by available evidence, opposition leaders in Bangladesh allege that Indian forces have forcibly returned thousands of Bangladeshis and killed 19 of them. Bangladesh's Jamaat-e-Islami and opposition parties are protesting alleged Indian actions that forcibly return Bangladeshis across the border and result in border fatalities.

In a separate incident, an Indian farmer named Sadeev Roy was reportedly taken across the border by individuals suspected to be from Bangladesh near Gate No. 6 of Kangla Tali village in Mekhliganj subdivision. Roy had gone to cultivate land close to the zero point when he was taken. He was later rescued by the BSF and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) following a flag meeting. Additional Superintendent of Police Tanmay Mukherjee confirmed that coordination between the two forces ensured Roy’s safe return.

India is on high alert as Jamaat-e-Islami plans protests near the border over repatriation of Bangladeshis alleged to be illegal immigrants, according to Bluesky.
